Is that all epxy putty and plastic tidbits, or what? I've never heard of Venus Wars, but it looks kinda neat... different, but neat.

HWR, what's wrong with the Dropship? Is that tank thing totally scratchbuilt? It's really impressive, but why'd you decide to build a tank that looks like a big snot?

Basically... I was just in a fun action figure buying mood, and I really needed a quick fix, but I also wanted the SPEC Eva after seeing the really nice pics, so the SPEC Eva is a fun purchase, but the Ble SoC Eva is a "I need a new fun figure to play wtih NOW' buy... So, are there any new SoC Eva adopters' tips I should know or things I need to worry about?

The sculpt on thos is simply fantastic... as long as the price is right, these are SO sold! But how is this happening? I thought HG had the whole licsence on lockdown... (this question asked 0 seconds before Lynx asked it )

Good to hear... I can't wait to see some more pics of it... don't know when mine will be shipped, so I went ahead and am buying the Blue Unit 00 SoC figure as well from someone on the boards That way I figure I will be able to determine which one is more fun to play with, AND I'll have both of my favorite Evas... so in the end I got both wanted anyway.

Planning customising/weathering 1/48 VF-1J and GBP

Do you mean there's some plasticy looking bits on /my/ CF, or the CF figure in general? If its something on mine, I'm kinda curious... I know the heat shiled looks silly bc/ its transparent and painted on the underside to avoid scratching... thats just how it came. -

Hi, glad I could help... I did some dark ink washes (oil paints work better, Im just now learning to use them.) And a couple layers of drybrushing... then a gloss spray coat. I applied all the decals and coated them in decal solution, then a coat of Future brushed onto all the decals to blend the edges, then a spray matte coat. In retrospect, I should have done the drybrushing AFTER the decals bc/ the gloss coats really faded the drbrushing... after the matte coat I did all my pastel weathering and sealed it with one last matte coat. For detailed valks, I've never taken apart more than popping the legs off at the already removable joint (the hip comes off of the socket piece if you just pull firmly straight out) and inscrewing and removing the arms... I've got a weathered CF in the customs gallery too, and I ddin't need to disasemble any more than that. I'm going to be doing another weatered detailing job on a Strike Roy, and then later down the line, a fuly repainted Minmei Guards valk, so I'm sure I myself will learn more abouyt what has to be taken apart by then... -
I'm not sure what the chemical in the aerosol is, but in reality, the drying agent in superglue is just water...

Hey, I did the exact same thing you are about to embark on, and for the GBP, yI didn't sand or touch up anything and everything worked fine... I panel lined the decalled the 1J underneath as well, but bc/ all i did was panel lines and decals, I didn't need to sand anything or whatnot... just spray on a clear matte coat afterwards... I buy all my decals from Devin (formerly selling them himself, now distrubuted and printed thru Robographics... check the for sale thread I think) they are top notch stuff, and make the whole process much easier. Here's the ancient thread for mine... really needs some new pics... -
This doesn't totally help, but I find that super glue works much better without an accelerant... using that can make the glue brittle... is there a specific reason you want an accelerator, like for some really fidgety parts or something? The only kind I've seen is that stuff that comes in a little aerosol can (looks like the mini Axe cans, but taller) and I forget the name of...

The colors on the SPEC Eva I can handle... they look anime accurate without being gaudy like, say, the Revoltech Eva... That's weird that they didn't make more of the inner body die-cast, but somehow in the end, I'm sure I'll like it better that way... too bad about no rifle case tho...

Well, I ended up needing some modelling sutff from HLJ, so I bought the Zabi-Pro from them instead and gave up on the BBTS preorder.. left my E-Zabi preorder with BBTS tho...
-
Well, I ended up buying the SPEC Eva too... I might end up grabbing some of the normal SoC Evas later, but hearing that the SPEC Eva is durable is good news... how much die-cast IS in the SPEC Eva? I just wish it came with the launch pad base the normal SoC Evas came with...

Roy Focker in the SaiGar 2007 tournament.

Roy for the final, sure, but Armstrong is fun... that's funny that Char lost, but yeah, how did Ikari make it into the comp? -
If your 5th degree contact there is right... then whatever comes out of this could have some great action... hopefully it'll pave the way for the rest of VOTOMS to get US releases...

Alright... I've come down to it... I really just want one good posable and durable Eva figure to play with and I need some other modelling stuff from HLJ anyway... I'm going to go with either the black SoC Eva unit 03, or, for ten bucks more, I can get the SPEC Eva-01... whcih is going to be better? I like the newer pics I've seen of the SPEC Eva, but I want to know about durability... I assume the SoC Evas are built like tanks bc/ of the die-cast content... but how durable is the mostly plastic SPEC Eva???
-
How durable are the SoC toys? I saw a pic of the SPEC Eva's hip broekn off.... how durable are the normal SoCs?

I really don't like the bright colors of the SPEC Eva... looks too much like the Revoltech one... how much better is the sPEC's posability than the SoC Eva?
-
The pics I've seen of the SPEC Eva made it look kinda chunky bc/ of the removable armor... I'm really just trying to find the most playable figure here...

That part is really important to safely securing the FP Boosters... otherwise there could be alot of strain on the delicate backpack hinge... you might want to contant whoever you bought it fom and look for a replacement part... or see if somene has an extra...

Gundam Plamodel Thread - II

Waste of a slot this close to to what should be a big event... -
Thanks for the recommendation Mowe... I've always thought Eva 01 was a bit odd looking.... but the paint job is really nice. There's not alot of improvements between the earlier add later figures, are there?

The kid says "I hope we make it" or something as the ship transformation warnings start going off... It was just a really well done line without being too dramatic, but still got the point across that this is a society living in constant turmoil... I'm not sure with the helmet filters tho... it really might just be YouTube... if you say they're consistently done, I beleiove you, and I can't wait to see more! Keep up the amazing work.
