I have just finished watching Macross 2 (its been awhile and I find the series entertaining, in case anyone is wondering) and noticed that the weapon system used by Major Nexx inside the Marduk battleship/warship is not a missile barrage/volley (a la Palladium Books Macross 2 RPG). Is it a Reactive Weapon? (the "This is Animation Macross 2" book lists the Metal Siren as having Reactive weaponry but, I though it was the usual four to six reactive missiles like the VF-1.) Is it a gravity weapon? (I believe this theory was discussed on a Relic forum thread) Is it a barrier shield overload weapon, like that of the original SDF-1? Does anyone know?

In my humble opinion, yes. Start in chronological order (helps with the story). The TV series is as follows. 49 episodes, 25 minutes each + 26-minute special program Special Program Macross's Fastest Liftoff!! (Macross 7 Preview) 1 Speaker Pod 2 Spiritia Level 3 Fire Scramble 4 Vampire Soldier 5 Spirit Gal 6 First Contact 7 Summer Accident 8 Virgin Bomber 9 Angel Night 10 Deep Ballad 11 Minmay Video 12 Spiritia Farm 13 Fold Out 14 Fighting Woman Mayor Milia 15 Virgin Jealousy 16 Battlefront Music Box 17 Pretty Devil 18 Fallen Little Devil 19 Life-Perilous Date 20 Ladies' Temptation 21 Dangerous Kiss 22 Men of Burning Fire 23 Sound Force 24 Merry-Go-Round 25 Late-Night Duet 26 Death on Planet Rax 27 Seven-Color Song Energy 28 New Sound Weapon 29 Papa, Mama Love Again 30 Triangle Relationship Formula 31 Passionate Love Scandal 32 Jammingbirds 33 Backstabbing and a Girl's Tears 34 The Day Gigile Sang 35 A Night for Only Two 36 Men of Passionate Song 37 Mystery of the Space Ruins? 38 Forbidden Planet's Sivil 39 Returning Basara 40 Thoughts That Transcends the Stars 41 I Love Mylene! 42 Desperate Capture Operation 43 Separated From Others 44 Nightmarish Invasion 45 Ambitious Fourth Planet 46 Gamlin's Rebellion 47 Basara Dies 48 Milene's Tears 49 Singing Voice Echoing Through the Galaxy If you like them then try out; Macross 7 the Movie: The Galaxy's Calling Me! Theatrical Release 30 minutes If you like that then try out; Macross Dynamite 7 Director: Tetsuroh Amino Creator/Story Concept/Mecha Design: Shoji Kawamori Original Character Design: Haruhiko Mikimoto 4 volumes, 30 minutes each Video Tape Color, stereo Hi-Fi Bandai Visual Vol. 1 Wonder BES-1757 Vol. 2 Cemetery BES-1758 Vol. 3 Lonesome BES-1759 Vol. 4 [singing Planet of the Galactic Whales] Zola I think that covers the basics. There are two box sets (I think) but I am not sure what they contain......I think the first one has episodes 1 to 26 or 27 and the second one starts where the first one ends and includes some extra episodes or commercials of some sort. Don't remember . Keith can most likely help you, if anyone here knows Macross 7 he does.

As Macross 7 has many ship designs and characters you cannot see in the other series, and quite a bit of additional story about Max, Millia, and the UN Spacy in general, it is worth watching. As for Basara and Sound Force, that is an acquired taste, you will either love or hate them at first. However, if you give yourself a break for say......a year.....you will most likely be able to go back and watch it again and realize it is not that bad. Its just VERY different than the original SDF Macross and is kind of a shock the first time around (was for me anyway). You should check it out. Its not really THAT bad. I have seen allot worse (uh....Voltron defender of the universe comes to mind, and what was that filmation horror oh yah....Sherah or whatever the female Heman was called. Just plain nasty.) Macross 7 is much better than most animation and many anime (G Gundam sucks in comparison, IMHO). As for Basara not playing more than one note (didn't notice, as I tried not to pay too much attention to him) and the reuse of combat scenes, don't sweat it. Most anime and animation series have to take liberties to meet production time and costs. A proper guitar sequence would most likely require quite a few cells and as how many note he actually can be seen playing is not really important to the Macross 7 story, the way his playing the guitar is portrayed in the anime can be overlooked. LordSixx, give it a try and determine for yourself whether you like it or not.

Well, Macross 7 has some of the best Mecha/VF designs in it. The VF-11C, heavy armor VF-11, VF-17, VF-19, VF-22, all the Varauta mechs, etc, etc. It must have left a good impression, I bought all the movie books I could find for it. Starships were fantastico! (both UN Spacy and Varauta) Story.......hmmm.......Macross plus it was not. But, "Battle Beyond the Stars" it was not (thank God). Story was OKay, not the best I've seen (Macross Zero rules by comparison). What's the word for it.........Cute, THAT'S IT! Macross 7 was cute, and there is NOTHING WRONG with cute. My wife is cute, my cats are cute. Yah, Macross 7 was cute, and now that I think about it, it was a nice change from SDF Macross, DRYL, and the Macross plus constantly serious storyline. If I had to rate it as a critic I would give it a 3 out of 5. Unless of course you are talking from an art viewpoint. Then it gets a 5 out of 5 (Kawamori and Mikimoto, what else could I rate it ). Well that's my 2 cents.

Wow! This has got to be one of the best threads I've read here so far. Well, I do not wish to intrude however, I would like to add some information that may be of interest. According to the Hebrew Kabbalist book of creation (the Sefer Yetzirah), Avraham (Abraham from the book of Genesis/Exodus) was able to create an automaton called a Golem. This create was emotionless and did not have a soul, it "lived" by the power of God. This creation was designed to protect the Hebrews. It was created through the manipulation of the 10 spheres of creation (the Sephirot). Each of these spheres represents a force of the universe. There are ten of order and ten of chaos (the Partsif). The ten of choas are unrestrained power (nuclear?) and could only be contained by an understanding of the 10 spheres of order (physics?). The Golem is usually a thing made of metal or clay and requires the name of a sort of spell or enchantment written on a tablet (usually gold, which is a good conductor) in order for it to come alive. Also the spell which activated the Golem had to be sung by the creator of the golem or another Hebrew priest/levite (Macross 7 comes to mind, Basara in the Protoculture ruins, eh.) Since this discussion is about religious overtones and the like, would it not make sense that the concept of a Golem is similar to that of a Battle Robot. Just a thought. Also, having read the above posts and checked with my Kabbalist books (the works of Rabbi Moses Maimonaides and Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan) I concluded that the above posts were correct. "Demons" are the disembodied souls of the Nephalim (sons and daughters of the 200 Shaytan/watchers) "Devils" are the 200 angels/watchers imprisoned in the Earth (reminds me of the Protodevlin) and were the ones who seduced the daughters of man and begot the Nephilim. When the term "Giant" is used in the biblical works it has a double meaning (see Aryeh Kaplan's translation of the "Bahir"). It means both an actual Giant in size and a Giant in power. This power can be influence, wealth, political, or intellectual. The Nephalim are often referred to with both meanings. It is interesting to note that the story of Adam and Eve, as told in the Bahir, indicates that Samael (the first Shaytan) was the watcher of the garden of Eden. He was taken aback by the beauty of Eve tried to gain knowlege through her (the Sephirot of Daat/knowledge). He seduced her (had intercourse with her on a spiritual level) and her eyes were opened (she gained knowlege/Daat and or became aware). She then seduced Adam and he too gained knowlege. What makes this story interesting is that it tells of a "skin" on Adam and Eve that is like a "Fingernail". This "skin" falls off of them after they have sex. It is Samael who first coerces the 200 watchers to defy God, primarily because his eyes were also open (he had Daat). What is also interesting is that much later in the Tanakh (the old Testament) in the book of Job, Samael comes to God and bows with respect. He apparently is far below God in power and must ask permission to torment Job. I mention this because God appears to have complete control over his mutliverse (in Kabbalah there are 10 dimensions to the multiverse, they range from the physical universe to a totally spiritual one.) As if he were a sort of scientist conducting an enormous experiment (To me that seems to be what the Protocultures did, running around seeding worlds and watching what happens.) Well its late here, don't want to babble on. Thank you all conversation. It is very interesting. I'd post more but I'm starting to nod off. Better go.

Attention: Egan Loo and other Macross Worlders
Gideon Krieg replied to Aurel Tristen's topic in Movies and TV Series
To both Nanashi and Egan, excellent work guys. I have consulted both over the years. I use Egan's Macross Compendium for the "Official" information on Kawamori sanctioned Macross. I use Nanashi's for all the neat "Un-Official" Macross that is out there. I would love to see more information on the games, especially the older NES (famicon) and old PC games that were made for Macross and that are not sanctioned by Shoji Kawamori. Its too bad you two jibe each other. You are both assets to the Macross community. It would not be the same with out either of you. Thanks guys. -
Very nice pic Nanashi! Looks nasty! I like the weapon close up pics. *Contemplates feasibility of real shotgun (12 gauge, with 5 shot clip) based on image* *Consults gunsmithing books* Nah! Bad idea. Still a neat design though. Thank you Nanashi.

Having watched the clip at RT.com, I do not see what has got some Robotech fans all riled up. I found the "Recliner of Rage" segment to be quite funny. It was obviously aimed at H.G.'s marketing techniques of the DVDs they sell and not at the Robotech series itself. Oh well, I guess some people get really defensive about the series they love. Having checked my Japanese to English dictionary (by Nobuo Akiyama M.A., Instructor in Japanese, School of Advanced International Studies, The Johns Hopkins University, Washington D.C.). I must agree with Keith. MA-KU-RO-SU would be the correct way to say it. The "O" sound being like that found in words such as "boat", "hose", or "rose". The "U" sound can also be described as an "oo" sound like in the word "food". The "A" sound can be described as that found in the word "father". As for the "Americanized version" well that's anybody's guess as to why H.G. corrupted it into Mah-cross. Personally I like the Japanese pronounciation. But, that is just me. To each his own, gentlemen.

Addressing the first topic/question; Egan Loo has a list of the Macross 7 episodes on his Macross Compendium. http://www.anime.net/macross/production/an...even/index.html His list is extensive and there is also information on the other Macross 7 videos and movies.

Super Macross, Super Attack-Type Line-Art!
Gideon Krieg replied to Aurel Tristen's topic in Movies and TV Series
After checking out my this is Animation #3, #5, and #7 TV series books, I came across a pic of the SDF-1 firing missiles out of the "crotch" triple turret as in Nanashi's pic. The picture is in This is Animation #7 on page 36. The picture actually bleeds over onto page 37 and is at the top of the two pages. *Bows with respect to Nanashi* As usual , Nanashi is absolutely correct. The triple turrets on the original TV series SDF-1 are in fact heavy missile launchers. I do have the this is animation for DRYL but there is no indication of what the triple turrets actually are as far as type of weapon system. Palladium books (Yes I know Kevin's reputation for accuracy in the Macross books ) lists it as a beam cannon. But I am sure Nanashi can tell us what it actually is. (most likely the same as the TV series). -
Fabulous Nanashi, thank you. So the four cannons are actually Zentraedi flagships/battleships. Whoa!

Now that we have Renato's opinion, could we have someone else make a contribution to the thread. Renato, I am glad you liked the show as it was originally created. However, those of us who did not like it are entitled to our opinions. As jibes here seem to get out of control, and constructive debate crumbles and falls apart due to it. I am taking on a new approach to see if it will be effective in derailing any further outbursts. Not that I really think this is going to work, I just got sick of going back and forth arguing about something that is just a TV show. It is all make believe. There is no point in getting worked up over it. So with that said, let me state my question a different way. *Speaking to Macross 7's detractors, not supporters* This is a, use your imagination and creative talent type question. Taking on the postion of writer, how would you have written Macross 7? I posted my take on it. (Oh and I removed Gamlin from the story entirely, in case anyone is wondering).
-
Renato brings up an interesting idea, For those of you who take issue with Macross 7, how would you re-write the story? My take; Eliminate all elements of the Sound Force concept. Make Basara an archaeologist who is an expert in all the UN Spacy knows about the Protocultures. Make Mylene an aspiring VF pilot who looks up to her parents as role models. As both her parents were ace VF pilots, her wanting to follow in their foot steps is quite reasonable. Keep the Protodevilns as they are except make them a heck of alot more realistic looking (H.R. Giger's works would be a very good template to work off of). Have the UN Spacy loosing against the Varauta, badly. Have the Macross 7 fleet uncover ancient Protoculture ruins which contain clues to the location of the device used by the Protocultures to imprison the Protodevilns. Have Basara make the discovery. Sivil should fall in love with Basara. So should Mylene. Center the bulk of the series around the Macross 7 fleet moving from star system to star system hunting down clues to the location of the device. The climax of the story should center around Sivil sacrificing herself to help Basara, and the UN Spacy, put the other Protodevilns back into their prison, or Sivil should sacrifice herself and send the Protodevilns back to their own dimension. The end should include the possibility of other Protodevilns being imprisoned elswhere in the galaxy. The End. I am quite interested in reading what other disappointed Macross fans would mold Macross 7 into.

Asuka II (CVN-99) Information and Images
Gideon Krieg replied to Aurel Tristen's topic in Movies and TV Series
Wow! Very nice Nanashi! Thank you very much for providing those new pics on your site. It is much appreciated. *Hands Nanashi award for best pictures* Thanks again. -
I see what you mean Skull Leader. If you are referring to the picture on page 123 of the "This is Animation Series Macross 7 Animation Materials" book. It would appear to be some sort of compressed air (possibly from the nuclear turbines) or steam. I checked Egan Loo's Macross Compendium. It lists the storage compartment but does not address how the gun pod is ejected in a gravity well. Most likely falls under the A (Anime magic) factor.

Keith, I am going to say this like I did at Robotech.com. This site does not belong to us. We have no right to bring this feud between us here. I did not bring the feud here, you did. What I posted to Nanashi about you was neither political nor was it a threat or insult. It is obvious you like Basara Nekki. You flying off the handle here and bringing an argument no one here had any idea about was just wrong. Besides it is totally off topic and violates this sites rules. Now, let me tell everyone here, Keith, that both threads we were bitching on at Robotech.com have been locked down. Steve Yun has made it clear that if either of us post anything political or inflamatory that person who posts is gone. Period. Account terminated. Now, I do not have to argue with you about whether or not you wished harm to come to me. That has been posted above for all to see. I am not going to engage in this "debate" with you any longer Keith. You violated the rules of this site. It is plain as day. That is not debatable. I will simply ignore you here also and allow you all the "rope" you need. If I post here again it will be on subject. As for you Keith, I hope you respect Shawn and Graham enough to do the same.
-
Keith's childish outburst is my fault. His ass may be in a sling over at Robotech.com. because of an argument we had over there. He started bad mouthing America, the President, religious people (called belief in God inane/foolish or silly) which started because I called Macross 7 unrealistic. It then progressed to me bashing Liberals, etc., etc.. You guys get the idea. He and I have been duking it out over there. However he has no business taking that fight here. He went too far at Robotech.com and he is going to far here also. Keith, we do not all agree on politics, religion, or life, so deal with it will you! These threads are not your personal preaching ground. Like Backstabber at Robotech.com said, take it somewhere else. Is this your idea of peace? Is this your idea of a rational comment? Have I ever threatened you Keith? No. Check every post I have made here or anywhere else. You just wished death upon me mister. You obviously cannot control your anger. A truly peaceful person like Jesus Christ, Buddha, Ghandi, Mother Theresa, or the Dhali Lama, would never wish death upon anyone even if they disliked them. Above quote is for Keith's benefit in case he has forgotten. Agent one, if you are reading this would you kindly explain to Keith that this forum (if I understand the rules here) is not for indirectly threatening the life of someone or dragging the extremely violatile gun control debate into these forums. I am not going to lower myself to this kind of insane garbage. I only called him Basara Keith Nekki, jokingly. Is that any reason for him to wish I would kill myself. Obviously not. Nor is it a good reason for him to start bringing politics into this thread. This thread is about "Valkyre Fighting Space Monster" not "Right wing verses Left wing, bitch off!"
-
Would you buy HG versions of DYRL and Macross 7?
Gideon Krieg replied to Myriad's topic in Movies and TV Series
*Blinded by the magnificence of the post* To quote Darth Vader; "Indeed you are powerful as the Emperor has forseen" Sorry Agent one I could not stop myself. What was this thread about again? Oh yah. Yes, I would buy DRYL and other Macross products from HG if they were properly licensed from Big West. -
Once again, Nanashi has brought forth wisdom from chaos. *bows down to the wisdom of Nanashi* *kneels in European medieval fashion as if to royalty* However, Sensai Nanashi, you have forgotten one of the most prised Macross 7 items. Sivil!!!! Don't get me wrong, I actually did like most of Macross 7, but like everyone else (well except for Basara Keith Nekki ) I hated Basara and his wimpy crap. Even real life UN peace keepers use tanks, machine guns, and attack helicopters for their own protection if nothing else.
-
While I like the title of this thread "Valkyre Fighting Space Monster", I have thought of a new one (not better, just new). "Space Hippie" Essentially that is what that pansy Basar is. He has the John Lennon glasses, the unkept look, and uses music to "save the day". Looks like a hippie's wet dream to me. Ah, it could have been so much better. A grand, epic, space saga, with the Macross 7 fleet fighting for their lives and either wiping out or subduing the enemy in a realistic fashion, through the use of wit. Like a Star Wars type thing, infiltrate the planet Vaurata and find some way to either imprison or kill off the Protodevilns rather than do the whole wimpy way of conflict resolution. You know a grand space battle with Gupernich going KA-BOOM! Not, "Oh wow, like thank you my man Basara, for like, showing us this new trippey Spiritia. I like, haven't been this high in Millenia.", and then leaving to find the Anima Spiritia. When I stand back and look at the series, it is somewhat like what an illicit drug trip might be like. As for Gupernich, he looks like a silly, mutant Barney. But hey, its Macross 7. If they were to use H.R. Gigers works as a template rather than the teletubies, it would probably have been too scary for Japanese TV. For those that do not know who H.R. Giger is, he was the brilliant artist that designed the alien from the movie "Alien" and the creatures from the movie "Species".

Does anyone else feel like Minmay got kinda....
Gideon Krieg replied to Max Jenius's topic in Movies and TV Series
Heck no! I ended up on guard duty for the next 6 months (Not kidding ). My superiors thaught it would teach me a lession. It taught me alright, how to play battletech the Role Playing Game, hehehehehehhehehehehehehe!!! Hours, and hours, and hours of nothing but combat drops, conquests, search and destroy missions. We played all aspects of the game, from House Davion and the Inner Sphere to the Clan invasions with Jade Falcon blazing the way into the Star League core worlds. Hell, when you're on guard duty, at night, for 12 hours, in the barracks, what else is there to do, except the hourly walk through, which started at the lower level of the barracks, and ended at the vending machines. Yep, nice coca cola, a few snickers, and a couple packs of pipe tabacco and off I went back to the guard room where two other airmen were waiting on detail like myself, for the game to continue. Was actually pretty nice at about lights out. (22:00 hours) We were able to play uninterupted except for the hourly patrol. -
*bows down with respect* Thank you Nanashi for correcting my ignorance. There is very little information available here in the US about Macross 2, except from the Palladium RPG books. *bows down again with respect* Thank you for providing such an informative website, the information there is far better than anything have seen prior to it. Again I stand corrected. The UN Spacy standard battleship looks quite impressive.
-
Okay Druna Skass lets navigate the pic to find the Rindadow. Start at the left most main cannon of the Macross cannon. Then go down from the right "spike" of the left main cannon (neupertiet looking boom section) towards the ass end of the Quiltra Qeluel landing ship/tank. Just to the left of the Quiltra Qeluel's hind is what looks like either a Rindadow or the UN Spacy Zentraedi looking frigate. If it is the UN Spacy frigate from Macross 2 (the one that is Zentraedi like, not the Northhampton type from M7), then this craft is much larger than the Palladium stats also. The other Rinadow looking ship is right above the hiney of the right most Macross cannon (you can only see the leg/main engine sections). This painting was obviously done to emphasize the Macross Cannon, many of the Zetran escorts look sort of mutated. There are an awful lot of Thuverl looking Tou Redirs and Tou Redir looking Thuverls. Which is fine with me, gives it class.
-
Hey guys, what class of ship is the one in the lower right hand corner of Nanashi's pic, just under the Thuverl Salan? Mabe my eyes are deceiving me but, it looks like some type of ARMD. I also noticed both the UN Spacy frigate and Rinadow Lojimuin type Zentraedi gundestroyers. Does anyone know why the boys at Palladium failed to add the Rindadow gundestroyer/monitor? Oh, how stupid of me, Kev must of blinked.
-
Unfortunately, the Macross deck plans volume 1, done by Pod9, are the only source of info on the Macross Cannon I know of. I say Unfortunately because the size of the Macross Cannon in the OAVs is much, much, greater than Seimbeida's stats. My RPG buddies and I have had many a discussion about ol Kev Seimbeida, when it comes to Macross spacecraft (like the Oberth), we feel he must have "blinked" or has some type of "depth perception" disorder. The size of the Tou Redirs in front of the Macross Cannons (not to mention the four Nupertiet Vergnitzs attached to it) give a clue to its massive size. I estimate it to be around 8000 to 10,000 meters in length. I too would like to see some actual official data on this craft and all the Macross 2 craft.
