For example the scene during Sheryl's sayonara concert in which she was floating with Ranka meant they tap for moment into the network, that is why Alto and Brera heard their song inside the Vajra cruiser. That would also explain why we saw a floating ghost Sheryl in the first episode during her fold flight to frontier, she was tapping into the network while she was sleep due to the earrings.
