I love people who say that. After WWII it was said that there would be no more in close dogfighting the aircraft were just too fast, Korea came along and MiGs were going toe to toe with Sabers. After Korea the US military was so convinced that there would be no more dogfights, no more visual aquisation and missiles would kill our enemies from miles away that they quit teaching ACM in Vietnam it was discovered that the missiles couldn't tell who was who, adn pretty soon F-4s and F-8s were tangling with MiGs again in a dogfight. The Navy got smart quiker than the Air Force and created Topgun, but the Air Force created the fighter weapons school, both to teach the use of aircraft weapons systems and to teach dogfighting. I thought we had probably learned our lesson, but with the advent of the F-22 and the JSF I hear people saying the same thing again, so I warn you not to make a statement like this. -

It just occured to me shouldn't the VF-0s and SV-51s be painted in low vis camo or at least what the russkies use today and what we use? Afterall they don't fly in space. -
What's a Gundam marker?

P-was for pursuit, now they use F instead for fighter. After WWII there were some aircraft that had originally used the "P" desiganation, but were changed to the "F" desiganation an example is the P-51 it was changed to the F-51. I'm not sure when exactly it happned sometime before the Korean conflict, my guess would be when the Air Force was formed from the Army Air Corps. Today "P" is the desigantion for patrol. On a side note the Navy always used the "F" desigantion for fighters (F4f Wildcat, F6f Hellcat, F2f Buffalo" and the "P" designation for patrol. Hope this explains it for you.

Got me wanting to replay AC4 so I was playing it an I have a few questions: 1) Did the final mission seem Starwarsesque to anyone else? 2) Anybody else think wow a helicopter would be nice after the dogfight on that mission? 3) How do you get the fighters with the different paint schemes? 4) How do you get the money to buyt aircraft/weapons exactly?

Just saw the commercial the 9:00 Central time (History Channel) is aircraft carriers, I thought some of ya'll would be interested.

A while ago there was a great 1/48 picture like that (more or less) ground crew scrambling around get the bird ready, the pilot in the low-vis ready to go, it was pretty cool, I think he used the 1/48 Hasegewa USAF set.

I think the F designation means fighter, just as B means Bomber. A probably means 'All-things' Speaking of letter designations, here they are: Types of Aircraft: A-attack B-bomber C-cargo E-electronic F-fighter H-helicopter K-tanker L-liaison Q-target and drone R-reconnaisance S-search and rescue T-trainer U-utility Modification of basic type: D-director aircraft M-missile aircraft V-staff and administrative transports General Classifications: X-experimental Y-service test Z-obsolete Pretty sure this basic stuff to most of you. Hopefully this helps. V- is for vertical takeoff (or landing) on a fixed wing aircraft hence AV-8 Harrier and V-22 Osprey

That goes without saying I would imagine. However......I would think that Overtechnology would give man the answer to the super-conductor and that would significantly reduce the heat signature. I remember hearing that it was suggetsed that the F-117 be painted a purple color instead of black because it would blend in with the night better, but the USAF said "We ain't having no stinkin' purple airplanes" so it's black. Maybe a purple would be a better camo. -
$39.75 at Walmart Can't rent it at blockbuster. Gamestop $34.99 Used. Hmm...all those planes is it worth it?

I know ecactly what you mean, every since EA quit making the Janes games there's nothing in the modern jet fighter or future fighter realm, I loved Janes USAF, shoot I even pull out Janes Fighter Anthology sometimes. Now you can either play Microsoft's WWII games or you play something that you have to have the NATOPS manual to play it. The Janes games had great mixture of realistic complexity and a simpleicty that didn't require a 3 inch manuel to hop in the cockpit and play. I'd always hoped that Janes would do a sim like USAF with Navy and Marine Corps aircraft. Has anyone tried Jet FIghter V?

Saw it on Xplay the other day, they said it was pretty good gameplay but the Anime Characters were annoying, also mentioned like 130 planes to fly. I thought it looked ok, again waiting for AC5. I figured I'd either pick up DetlaStrike or LOck on for my PC.

I think the pilot in the center could answer your question. Picture

I was watching earlier and thought man those uniforms are goofy and uncomfotable looking, plain old Khakis would be much more comfortable. What do ya'll think?

When does the Unfication (?) War start? The one from Mac Zero?

I was watching the trailer and I keprt thinking, I don't want to run around the jungle in a bright ornge flightsuit, and the Stormies white armor definatly lacks any camo.

AQ: what do u think is the most underrated fighter

B-52 is teh Stratofortress, don't see how she is underated. B-58 is the Hustler, pretty fast but, carried an external bomb pod...weird The USAF is all kinds of jacked up in naming aircraft they think everything needs an "F" designation- F-111 F-117 Both are attack jets I think the F-16 should really be the F/A-16 too and the F/A-22 should really be an F-22, but they're doing the same thing with the JSF I've yet to see anything referring to it as the F/A-35 or for that matter the F/A/V-35 (this one will be bitch if that's what the Marines call it) I think we should perhaps change the requremants to most underated Bomber Attacker Fighter for a period of years say: 1939-1943 1943-1948 1949-1954 1955-1960 1960-1965 1965-1975 1975-1990 1990-present Just an idea -
The Prometheus Class carrier is 512 Metres in length, wheras the Nimitz class is 332.9 metres in length. 'Tis sad indeed. Man, someone should break in there and put a Valkyrie on that MoFo. PS: Maybe the US Navy should name their ships after SF Vessels. I would not mind serving onboard the USS Macross or the USS Tiger's Claw. I would

Among other pilots the SU-27 line is pretty well liked, but as far as the General public is concerned I'd say the SU-27 family, but I think among aviation lovers the Tornado doesn't get enough love. -
you see the VF-2 is the standard model, the VF-2SS is the Super Sport model and in between is the VF-2Z28, big engine but not as much power as the SS, but if you mod it a bit you can get all sorts of power more than a stock SS Sorry I just couldn't resist

Captain America, I'll admit I could be wrong, it was just always explained to me that the AIM-54 climbed and dove, and was un powered during the dive using gravity to help it further accelerate, I could definatly be wrong.
