Not Ghibli but Miyaziki nonetheless: I'd suggest Lupin III Castle of Cagliostro. I't s a nice, light-hearted adventure that needs no introduction to the Lupin III universe. Then again, any of the Lupin movies are like that. Oh and -- d'oh! -- I shoulda also suggested Project A-Ko...good one, 1BRD.

I wouldn't think so (since he's not technically breaking Canada's laws, just America's so its the business of us Yanks to hammer him), but I know that people are arrested by US authorities at a somewhat regular clip for going to Thailand for what's euphimistically called "sex tourism" (more like statutory rape tourism though) Oh, and Graham: That's just WRONG. So very WRONG. I can;t begin to state just how wrong that is.

My absolute favorite though is the "boner" sequernce in Batman.

Now, you see, this is why I like Marvel better. They'd never stoop to such hokey covers. Of course there WAS the David Letterman "Avengers" cover from 1985, but I digress.

Actually, that's already in the Engrish thread, but it's still pretty funny

the complete court case of big west v.s. tatsunoko
Pat Payne replied to rickzero's topic in Movies and TV Series
Also, guys, if we start to emulate the thread that woun't die , Max Jenius and his goon squad's gonna break it up and lock it sooner rather than later. Finally, is it me, or is that modified battlepod just fugly and so very wrong? -
You're kidding, right? there is a fungus from Belize that can eat DVDs?
-
But have you seen a man eat his own head? Then you haven't seen everything! I don;t quite know how to answer that...

30 1/2. They cut out half of the title of episode 31. "Khy..." Dammit, I wann know if Lick Hunter rescues Minmei from that cage made of sporks!

Same here. No cracks, and it seems that the odds are mirrored, the evens are clear.

I've never had a problem getting my Macross discs out of their jewel cases, they pop out like a charm. The ones you have toi worry about are the kind that Warner Brothers used to use (still used on BBC America discs). I'm afraid to watch my Fawlty Towers DVDs, since the hoplders clamp so tight to them that I fear snapping the discs in two getting them out of the damn things.

OK, everyboody...now THIS has to be worse than "The Phantom Menace..." right?
-
It looks like the HK bootleg outfits ain't content to give bootleg buyers boots of Macross only...conumer choice reigns supreme as Chinese-subbed bootlegs (I assume they are boots) of Robotech have surfaced on E-Bay. This is too funny, althogh I don't know why..... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...6374233153&rd=1

3 Million Pledged to save Enterprise!
Pat Payne replied to Magnus's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Who? President of Viacom (owns Paramount). And, therein lies the dilemma. I was looking at the official Star Trek webpage's article, and they seemed to imply that the decision to cancel the show was linked to the fact that Enterprise will be hitting 100 episodes at the end of the season. This means that Enterprise was still doomed when the fans got, essentially, a stay of execution during season 3. Look at it this way: Enterprise was in limbo at the end of Season 2, and through seasons 3 and 4. It wasn't profitable enough to justify continued production, yet pulling in respectible (if not anywhere near spectacular) ratings. Paramount/UPN's dilemma was solved when the show loked as though it would hit 100 episodes (the threshhold mentioned in the ST.com article as being the "break-even" point for syndication). Now, they could sell the show to syndication, DVD, etc. and not worry about the very large investment, financially that they made in the show. -
3 Million Pledged to save Enterprise!
Pat Payne replied to Magnus's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
You have GOT to be kidding me. I like Enterprise (at least it's not Voyager), but I've got better things to spend my money on than trying to get Paramount to change its mind. -
Why would "Yamato Far East" include Europe?
-
"Night of the Lepus." This one starred Stuart Whitman (Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines), DeForest Kelley (Dr. "Bones" McCoy from you-know-what), Janet Leigh (need I say "Psycho?"), Rory Calhoun (from '50s horse $#it and gunpowder epics) and Paul Fix (Dr. Piper from the second Star Trek pilot, To Kill a Mockingbird [!], The Sons of Katie Elder [!], and a list of other films as long as my arm). Saw it once, a long time ago, and have no desire to see it again.

Macross 7 gets region 1 release?
Pat Payne replied to lt.actionjackson's topic in Movies and TV Series
How DOES your head fit through doors, A1? Seriously, since Animeigo lost the rights to SDFM, and has had absolutely no luck (and publically gave up) trying to get DYRL, M7 is probably out of their ken for the forseeable future. -
Great, NERV. Now I've got flashbacks to "Kingdom of the Spiders." It's gonna take three days to get the image of William Shatner screaming like a schoolgirl out of my head!

OK, guys, we've had our fun (and I freely admit I got a dig in) but on the other hand, let's not drive the poor guy away with unending flames, either... [Mr. Miyagi] Remember, flames are learning tool, not weapon of violence. [/Mr. Miyagi]

Locating Region 2 (original Japanese) DYRL DVD
Pat Payne replied to Hurin's topic in Movies and TV Series
Hurin, if you're in the Los Angeles Area (or anywhere else in the country that has one) try going to an Asashiya or Kinokuniya bookstore. They can special order it for you. It's still in print AFAIK (at least it was last year, when I bought mine), can't talk to the comparison with the boot, as I don't buy boots, and as Bandai/Emotion is the only R2 seller, it is by default the best. And if you go through Asashiya or Kinokuniya, you can be assured of the real McCoy-san. Pricewise, $80-$90 is the best you're going to get. The DVD itself is 7800 yen (roughly $80, going by a rough exchange rate) and on top of that, the stores add markups, small tariffs from the gummint, and shipping fees from Japan. -
(Is observing a moment of silence for that horribly mangled joke.)

Bugs Bunny and Friends. The NEXT Generation?
Pat Payne replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Those Disney cartoons you mentioned are no longer banned, as Disney finally realized that people like us who actually want to see and judge those cartoons for ourselves will pay good money to view them. They're on the "Disney at the Front Lines" collection, a set of most of the war-themed cartoons produced by Disney (including some never-before comercially released ones as "Stop That Tank," a Canadian Army training film, and "Victory Through Air Power, a theatrical film not seen since its first release in 1943). Hopefully, WB wil get the message soon, and release their wartime archives as well. BTW, WB didn't produce "Blitz Wolf". MGM did. WB, through Time/Warner/Turner, owns the MGM cartoon catalogue. -
Bugs Bunny and Friends. The NEXT Generation?
Pat Payne replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
no. No. NO. NO! NO!! This is horrible. Can't they just leave one thing well enough alone? Bugs, Daffy and all the others as earnest super heroes? Why not just burn everything made before 1997 and have done with it, fopr crying out loud? -
Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions. I think I'm going to stay away from Nova and groups liek that...and if I do get a job teaching...I'll wear cast-iron briefs
