Someone said what needed saying about Anime Fandom
eugimon replied to Bloodcat's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
ha. ha ha. it really was pretty foul, I don't think you need to be of an overly sensitive disposition to find some of the stuff he said needlessly offensive. Anyways, some of it was quite good, like the bit about not calling animation from other countries whatever word they use to describe animation. And the stuff about anime not being fully animated... man, I don't know how many episodes of naruto is just like that... just two guys facing off at each other for like a month worth of episodes while we watch flashbacks of stuff that JUST happened... But there is a rather legit reason why some people don't like the term "japanimation" which many people would find offensive. for the same reason we don't call rap music "n*****music." besides, if you're posting on a website devoted to anything other than job/school/life related... ie a hobby or other interest... you are an otaku... get over it. If you're making angry 4 min rants about something, you care too much about it. -

yeah, those feet are still clown feet... oh well, I can deal.

Very cool. you should post pics of it in progress in one of the model forums. I've been eyeing that bad boy and would love to see it made.

There will not be any 1/48 Macross Plus toys ever. They would be too big and too expensive. There may be new 1/72 scale or perhaps 1/60 scale versions released sometime in the future.....or not. With no news for such a long time, perhaps Yamato has given up on Macross Plus toys. Graham you gotta start leaning on the yamato company guys you know! I would love love love to see a a 1/60 scale yf-19 and 21... I would love and pay to see those made... I know you got that new kid and everything (congrats on the way)... hey, maybe you could invite some yamato people over to say hi to the kid and casually slip in a, "Hey, you know it would be a shame if my kid grew up without a perfect version of the yf-19 and yf-21 from yamato..." what do you think?

haha, nice. at the AX, I was over by one of the booths selling DVDs and one guy wanted the remastered robotech DVDs but was disapointed all the episodes weren't out yet... so after he walked away from the booth I told him and about the Animego set and he seemed pretty happy about it. muahahaha.

I dunno, there are a lot of fugly guys that dress up as all manner of anime girls and no one seems to mind... Is it just because man-faye is obviously hideous that he provokes this reaction? Is it because he's a man dressed up as a woman? Is it because he draws attention from more "serious" cos-players? I say, if he likes the attention he gets as man-fay, let him do his thing. he's not hurting anyone. .... Did anyone else notice that Gundam model booth that had the two for one sale? Thought it was hilarious because their prices were double what I would see online.

Spider-Man 2 review! (spoiler free)
eugimon replied to Zeta Otaku's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah, I think it was just showing that a lot of the trouble in peter's life is due to the choices he makes... which is pretty much the theme of the movie right? everyone in the movie is forced to make a choice, and peter had to see that he had choices. -
The real deal with Harmony Gold and DYRL

it's possible... I've seen 1/48's selling for 199.99 at local manga/anime specialty retail shops... so if you figure a good price on line for a 1/48 is what... around 120? then it's almost, but not quite, twice what you would pay. So yeah, HG blocking mass import of yamato products does jack up the price considerably, maybe not as much online, but if you're buying retail than it is a bit obscene... plus, I've had jack offs at these stores tell me to my face that yamato was bought out by HG and that's why they charge 300 dollars for macross plus toys. -
I don't know if I liked it quite as much as some of the other people who've posted... but it was a solid series. the character development was well paced the intergration of magic and tech was pretty interesting. Thought it started off a bit slow but by the thrid or fourth episode it was pretty interesting.

I love this line of reasoning: Since HG has an indefensible position, let's attack Big West instead... when no in the Macross camp has said that Big West is some sort of collection of Saints and altruists. I am quite sure that Big West is also greedy but HG has for the last twenty years been blocking fans from watching macross and obtaining macross licensed merchandise. That's it. for that reason they are the evil empire, if it were the other way around, and BW was stopping the importation of robotech into japan and there was some japanese robotech fan base then Big West would be the evil empire. -
hey, those are pretty cool... were the sculpts similar/the same as those little macross keychains?
-
darn, they had the red one there, but I didn't take a picture of it. it looked pretty nice and the rook pilot sculpt looked more feminine ( I thought ) than the millia sculpt on the 1/48 vf-1j... and it had a little cyclone all folded up as well.

I'm not exactly sure why everyone's so hung up with the "Shadow Technology" thing all of a sudden, even as corny a title as it makes. Had folks bothered to be even vaguely informed, they could have taken issue with the Shadow technology thing some 20 years ago, when Robotech aired-- instead of acting as if it's a surprise and some big goofy corny thing now. It's always been a part in the Robotech continuity, not to mention being the stuff already present in Mospeada, taken and twisted a step further. That's almost like making fun of Macross 7 now for having Music-Wins-All-Wars as a theme, and being shocked when it presents a goofy sounding idea, when that something's always been key to the series. Music in Macross? *gasp* No way! And that sounds as goofy and stupid as it did the first time around. Why are we snickering at the idea of Robotech going kiddie fare, again? We had no problem with that sort of thing in Macross. -Al HEY! NO way should you lump me in with the M7 fan base, I thought M7 was as silly and pretty much worthless as anyone else. I for one, am and equal oppertunity cynic and person who points and goes, "haw haw!" BTW, I did post a link to a robotech RPG site that talked about shadow force and the shadow alphas, and yeah, 20 years ago, I thought it was cool. when I was 7.

I asked random big guy behind the toynami counter and he said it depended on whether the MPC alpha sold well. I then asked if the VF-1 sold to expectation and he then glared at me. I asked nicely too, honest.

That would just be wrong. So awfully wrong. Of course, they could name this foe after a Babylonian god....but that would be even worst. The current plot to Shadow Force (if it even keeps that name) sounds like M7 and various other shows. Exploration force goes out into space in search of something only to encounter a mysterious foe. I'm sure I've heard that type of plot somewhere else... hmmm, maybe you're onto something here... shadow force could actually be not the name of a new technology but of a new pop group that uses "spirit energy" released from their songs! This "spirit energy" attacks the enemies ability to attack by destroying their ability to form and "chakra" a type of power that comes from extended use of protoculture.

Did you guys notice the little folded up cyclone? That's a nice little extra. They have the alpha all stickered up now, looks a bit better, I can post some pics later tonight. the little cyclone is sweet.
-
went to ax2004, I missed man faye though... very sad about it. there was a guy in a gundam suit which was uber cool. the toynami guys weren't very talkative, but the MPC alpha is looking very sweet.
-
And how, exactly, did Robotech rip off Gundam? the m. particles (whatever) in gundam that block all targeting except visual which they use to justify flying aorund in space with laser swords. Pretty much the same idea as shadow force: some new tech that blocks all sensors but LOS.

The real deal with Harmony Gold and DYRL
eugimon replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Movies and TV Series
Nah, I don't think BW is noble or anything resembling that...I just happen to like the Macross version of Macross and not Robotech... and I know that BW would release it as Macross and not Robotech. For me, Robotech was an edited and watered down version of Macross that really didn't do the series justice... Furthermore, macross was clearly aimed at an older audience than Robotech. There are several scenes that are more graphic, violent and mature than I think would be appropriate for a kid friendly Robotech. I just prefer to see material as was intended by the person or people who created it. And once again, I know that BW (evil capitalist pigs that they are) is the most likely to present the material in that fashion. So really, if HG fixes things with BW and they bring the Macross license to america devoid of any censoring or editing... and treat the material with respect, I'll have no problems giving them my money... But, the way they have treated even loyal Robotech fans in the past the MPC VF-1, the shoddy DVDs and then the "remastered" DVDs... leads me to think that this just won't happen. -

that's cool dude... the previous post from macross_fanboy went in an entirely different direction... glad you cleared things up. -
okay, I gotta hand it to them, those pics look great... if the actual production runs look like that, I'll definitely get at least one...
