Bandai Entertainment Cracks Down on DVD Piracy
eugimon replied to treatment's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Anime was never the cash cow in the US that it is now... there are tons of licensed anime on the air now, it's become a pretty major pop culture phenomenon (sp?)... even NPR is doing pieces on it now. So now that the big companies know what's at stake, of course they're going to go after the boot leggers...and of course they'll sell their subpar DVDs for obscene prices. -

Something odd in Soldner: Secret Wars.
eugimon replied to Commander McBride's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
yes, what game is this? -
easiest way is to check the headrest on the pilot's seat... if it's curved it's the reissue with fixes, if it has no cruve, it's the original.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up... and yeah, you can transmit energry wirelessly... some researchers, for instance, want to put solar power generators on the light side of the moon, and then beam down energy in the form of microwaves to the earth surface where collectors would use energy to produce steam, drive turbines, produce electricity... you can imagine the howls of protest and laughter when the idea was brought up. Anyways, you can do it.. you would need line of sight and time to transmit any sizable amount of power and it would be pretty devestating if someone were caught in the line of transmission... and i think pretty dangerous for the receiver as well, since falling out of alignment would mean you're subjecting yourself to huge amounts of energy (in whatever form they're sending it)

I dunno if Big West could have continued to make more series after the fashion of gundam and its myriad sequels... in gundam, the conflict is between two well developed adversarial groups... in Macross, the Space War was only a backdrop for more personal stories. So I guess I'm saying it's easy for bandai to do a plug and play type approach to gundam... make new gundam, recycle plot, viola! new series. With macross, to remain true to the series, you need to have believable characters and real tension and drama between them, as well as fleshing out some sort of conflict. plus, I'm thinking it takes way more time to design out the mechanics of Macross mecha than gundam mecha... which is pretty formulaic... it's not like they've advanced terribly since the rx-78... transforming mecha at the level of detail and realism of the VFs seems like it would be much more difficult to work out convincingly and at the same time remain fresh and new.

Guide to the Differences Between Macross & Robotech
eugimon replied to lebhead's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Too bad! Because here in California, we've been getting most of the Anime imports from Japan for decades. That's why I laugh at these fools who foolishly think Robocrap is all that. StarBlazers, Voltes V, Godzilla, Mazinger Z, Shogun Warriors, Ultraman, and Go Rangers (original Power Rangers Sentai's) all had bigger influences than Robofake in the Philippines and the United States. Where do you live? Eerie, Pennsylvania? while this is true and I do remember those shows.. it was still robotech that got me to run home from school so I could watch the next episode.- 72 replies

ah, of course... an anti nuclear power device... like those particles that block out everything... why don't they just make a sensor that targets the particles? Gundam just kinda became an animated version of the: oh yeah? game to me...you know.. the one where someone says something, then some counters with an, "oh yeah?" and tries to top em?

I concur... and really, battery operated gundam?

Well... what other Simpsons involves the towers to the same degree? I haven't seen this one. What happens in it? barney borrows Homer's car and gets it booted in NY... after much time has gone by, homer finally finds out about it and goes to NY to claim his car, thus, the Simpons go to NY! MArge and the kids have a great time in the city, seeing the sights and blah blah, but poor homer has to sit and wait by the car for some cop or official to show up. while he's waiting he eats some funny ethnic food and then is offered his choice of liquid refreshment: crab juice or mountain dew. he chooses crab juice. He then needs to go the bathroom, which is at the top of one of the towers, he goes, comes back and the official is gone and the boot remains on his car. homer tries getting the boot off with a jackhammer, royally jacks up his car, and finally just drives off with the boot still attatched annoying angry NYers to no end. Hommer gets family off the back of one of those horse draw carriages in central park and drives back to springfield, stuck behind a garbage truck with bits of trash flying into his face (windshield smashed during jackhammer incident) there is your humor devoid retelling of a rather funny episode...

For a yf-19 that looks closer to the anime line-art, I really wouldn't mind too much some tinkering with the design or even removable pieces. And while I'm not a big fan of Mac7, having nicer versions of the VF-17 available would be very sweet... ... does the release of the monster mean that yamato will be looking at some of the other valks not featured in anime? like the 5000?

Gave away my Robotech DVD part two
eugimon replied to Jin_Kune_Do's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
slap the brat. if the kid's dad won't learn him some manners than we as the community village should! -
You forgot: "Robotech: Rogue Spear" "Robotech: Ghost Recon" And then there's: "Robotech: Full Spectrum Warrior" "Robotech: Operation Flashpoint" "Robotech: Second Sight" "Robotech: "IGI" How could we not include Robotech: Splinter Cell? That's a classic! I'm surprised they didn't capitalize on the transformer's energon success and use their own combining mecha... Robotech: Protoculture of Combination!

Man, I hope that isn't the case... my last hold out for hope was yamato releasing the FP versions of the other mac plus valks... but since it has been such a long time with no word and no pics, perhaps it is best to just let this one die. but still... sob sob... a 1/60 yf-19 would be so very nice... though I want a 1/60 yf-21 even more.

Official Transformers Alternators and more thread.
eugimon replied to David Hingtgen's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Just thought I'd share the news and give this topic a bump. http://www.hasbro.com/transformers/energon.../dn/default.cfm Jul 01, 2004 AUTOBOT HOUND, the Jeep Wrangler is shipping now... Q: When will the TRANSFORMERS ALTERNATORS Jeep Wrangler hit store shelves? A: AUTOBOT HOUND, the Jeep Wrangler is shipping now and should begin to hit store shelves in the next few weeks. -
Yamato have stopped talking to me for a few months already. They just do not reply to my emails anymore, no explanation or anything and the phone calls have stopped as well Not sure why this has happened. Well, actually I have a few theories, but I'm not going to air dirty laundry in public. Graham ah... sad to hear...

I'm amazed that he got the sword/backpack right...considering i haven't seen any line art of it. Its supposed to be Blue Frame's sword or something. Guess he got them from the Astray Manga. yeah, the sword backpack thing was pretty cool.. all the bits either physically connect with each other or are held on/reinforce each other with velcro... his suit is pretty cool too... just cardboard with sort of laminate on it, and he had those quick-release straps on it to make it adjustable and what not... they were handing out flyers for a workshop for people who want to make suits like that.
