Anyone have trouble with Xbox on a Plasma?
eugimon replied to ErikElvis's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I really wish samsung would give "game mode" a distinct remote code/button instead of burying it in the menu. -

samsung treats each hdmi in port uniquely. So if you have your ps3 and xbox on say, ports 1 and 2 and you have those on game mode and you have the blu ray player on port 3 and not in game mode, it will remember whatever setting you had each port set to last. I don't believe the TV itself can't detect whether the incoming signal is from a gaming console or not. -
Finally finished my ME3 insanity run. Waited till all the DLCs were out so this is also the first time I've seen the extended ending...

lol, what exactly do you think a bankruptcy does? Japanese companies have and do declare bankruptcy to shed debt, even high profile companies like JAL.

Anyone have trouble with Xbox on a Plasma?

I see that theory a lot on the forums but I doubt it's true. Back in 2005 there wasn't much going on in terms of image enhancements on pictures, and even 120 hz tvs hadn't hit the market yet. I don't know what a tv could turn on. What I suspect actually is going on is this. Game mode is distinct from whatever picture settings you have normally, In terms of brightness, contrast, backlight, etc, it puts the tv back to its factory default state... which is high pop. So if you have your tv tuned in to a more natural setting and put it into "game mode" it looks too hot. You can adjust the game mode settings independently of your normal viewing mode, btw. So people saw that and figured game mode just meant "turning everything on". As for plasma vs LCD: That really depends on a few factors. Plasmas do have better dynamic ranges but they're not as bright as an LCD screen. So if you're using your tv during the tv in a bright room, LCD is going to do better. If you're watching more in a dimmed room, than plasma will give you deeper colors. Plasma runs hotter than LCD, so if saving the planet is your thing, an LED LCD tv will use significantly less electricity than a plasma. Also, most plasma tv's have a buzzing sound, sometimes this fades with use, sometimes it doesn't and it bothers some people (me) but it doesn't other peope, so ymmv. Some of the higher end LCD tvs have iq that's within spitting distance of their plasma cousins. High contrast and dynamic backlighting can produce a very rich, and deep picture but those TVs usually cost significantly more than a decent plasma tv. -

Burning in on a plasma isn't nearly the problem it was when they first came out. Most brands have various solutions to preventing burn in, supposedly samsung's works particularly well. If you do get burn in, you can try a variety of methods (most involve making the tv show "normal" stuff continuously) but really. burn in might be a problem if you're using a plasma tv as your monitor while you practice for the world star craft II championships but playing a couple hours of halo isn't going to damage your screen. -

I've owned various sumsung tv's for the past 6 years, "game mode" has always worked that way. I don't know about other brands though. -

samsung's "game mode" turns off any unnecessary image processing but plays with the audio settings (probably for more bass). -
frak! So close. clicked on the add to cart button before amiami crashed. When it came back I had it in my cart. Went to check out, amiami crashed on me again, when it came back "out of stock" Godsdamnit!

In real life, almost everything was done by the canadians. They were involved in planning out the op, staked out the airport and bought the tickets. The movie also pretty much invented the entire 3rd act.

I loved argo, glad it won. It was truly a master class in how to build suspense.

yes, bandai were producers but that means they also got a cut off of the tv shows, movies, concerts, all the little toys, all the merchandising that they were part of as well as the DX toys. Yamato doesn't get to shift the licensing fees to some other high volume, high margin product like a gashapon key chain toy. No, they're not the same plastics, metals, etc. Yamato and bandai used different grades of plastics, different grades of plastics require different tolerances and thus tooling prices for molds. Other than the vf-19, yamato also puts a matte surface on their valks, which is another added cost. And considering that there is noticeable mold related degradation on my 25g compared to my 25f, I'm going to guess that yamato uses higher quality molds to begin with as my cavaliers isn't anywhere nearly as degraded as my 1st release vf-1s. Also, the 29 and 25 share far more parts in common than the 19 and 17, for instance. Shared costs means lower per unit cost. If you want to say Yamato's cost too much for *you*, go ahead and say that. But saying that they are objectively overpriced by comparing them to a different product from an entirely different company is pretty silly.
-
even if you ignore the fact that bandai is an exponentially larger company than yamato was, even if you ignore the fact that bandai didn't have to pay for licensing rights, even if you ignore the fact that bandai sold some of their macross products through their own store (and thus cutting out the middle man)... you're still left with the fact that yamato and bandai valks used different materials and thus have different manufacturing costs and that frontier valks were designed to be translated into toy form cheaply and efficiently while yamato had to figure out a way to make 30 year old anime magic designs work. saying that yamato's are overpriced because bandai has a cheaper product is.. baseless.

you elitist, how dare you buy nice glass shelving units to show off your conspicuous consumption!
-
did the hi-metals cost as much as a yamato valk? No. Therefore, it's a lower tier item. That's great that you liked it, not enough people did.
-
there have been several lower end toy lines revoltech yamato gn-u and the aborted 1/100 vf-0 bandai hi-metal they all failed or weren't successful enough to continue. there's no point in making a toy for which there is no market.
-
yay, another informative thread derailed by people butthurt that they can't buy a high end toy at wal-mart for 15 bucks.

yeah, gerwalk could have been better with a deeper intake/thigh extension, stiffer knee ratchets and yes, better ankle joints. But mommar insists that almost any gerwalk pose will ruin the toy, that's just not true.

Did I say that there was "nothing wrong" with the ankles? No. I'm merely refuting the claims that the toy can't do an "aggressive" or "neutral" gerwalk stance without ruining the ankles. Could they be "better"? Sure. Of course they can. But does the mere act of posing the toy within the design limits of the ankles cause them to be ruined as mommar keeps maintaining? No. Or are you saying that only data points that support your opinion are valid? Or that I have special toys with different ankles able to get into the stances that some people here are impossible without damaging the toys You and mommar should write reviews for the New York Times.

oh, you watch the daily show too? But no, I get your point. Obviously the five vf-19 valks I own are special, hand crafted units with special ankles that yamato made just for me. You found me out jenius, you're so sneaky and smart! edit: or are you suggesting that every 3 months the quality of the ankles will change and that if I just wait another month or two that the ankles on my vf-19 will become useless and that a few months after that they'll get better again? Or maybe, just maybe, some people out there broke their toys and can't admit it?

first it was that an aggressive gerwalk would ruin the ankles and now a neutral stance will ruin the ankles... neutral gerwalk stance same valk standing on one leg with the horrible mangled ankles that are ruinously ruined. In other news, bought myself a vf-19f off of mandarake

meh. I've bought toys that were more expensive than a yamato valkyire that hasn't lasted half as long in terms of entertainment value.
