full metal alchemist is a great show.. good character development and the animation is pretty good. if you liked shirow's original manga of ghost in the shell, than Stand Alone Complex is made for you.

That is the point. That entire BBS is devoted to making unique variants of popular mechanical designs, often drawing one machine in the style of another artist. In this case, Mamaru Nagano's style has been used to recreate seveal Macross designs and the mere fact that a fan could dream up and draw something like that is amazing. Nagano himself would be proud =D no no, I get that it's hybrid of two different styles. I was just speaking as a macross fanboy, that seeing my beloved VF-1, which I love for it's attention to functionality, married to the school of ornamental and big flying appendages are cool school of anime. and yeah, props to the guys who did the work.

hahaha, the guy who did the VF-1j conversion must have been a yamato 1/60 fan... that chest piece completely blocks arm movement. this is a travesty... completely contrary to the mecha design of macross

Heh. Should have known better than to utter Robotech at a Macross board, where the former is regarded as an evil bastard child and should have burned in hell along with Macek, and both should never have allowed to leave the womb. You're being modest, let it all out, don't hold back and btw, let me take back that comment about us MW'ers not willing to participate in a "VS" Contest haha, well, some MW know a joke when they read one and others like to edit quotes to make it seem like a malicious slam. but then, that's a gundam fan for you. -

You really don't want to know what I think of you at the moment. If the ASS-1 crashed in UC 0078, the Earth Federation would be devastated, and Zeon would most likely end up winning the war. Then they realize that there might be giant aliens, and I come in and crush them all in a black hole for even thinking about such a moronic concept. Aliens and Gundam don't mix. EVER. So the ASS-1 could never crash in the Gundam world. Quod Erat Demonstrandum. thanks for illustrating my point. -

dude, ranma would so win. -
yeah i seriously hink the intake warnings stand out too much...that and they're too big...i really hope yamato decides against having those warnings put on...i'd much rather use the chunky stickers than have that loud, ugly marking wow... I never noticed the size of those intake warnings before... they are huge. looking more and more like a definite pass on this thing.. I was only interested in the battroid in the first place, but with the bunny years and all... those intakes were kinda like the straw that broke the camels back. here's hoping they have a larger prefect version in the pipe.

we had a toynami guy come through our store the other day and he asked how the alpha was doing... I wasn't there at the time, but a friend of mine told him of the various issues we've all scene. now this guy, who works for toynomi, freely admited the crapiness of the guys they got to manufacture this thing (he blamed crappy molds) as well as low quality materials used to make it. so really, nothing else needs to be said, even toynami admits they make crap.

hey, welcome to the site... as a participant in many multiuniverse flame wars such as: batman versus captain america or my favorite: batman versus wolverine star trek versus star wars I have to say, it's fun while it lasts, but at the end of it all you end up thinking to yourself as comic book guy does in the simpsons at his approaching death: oh, I've wasted my life. fan boys will always think that their particular bit o' fancy is the "bestest" around, and will refuse to listen to reason. so leave those worthless gundam-philes to themselves so they can drool over this weeks version of an MS suit and participate here. -
I dunno.. it's cool but it's also meh. I'm leaning towards meh.

Actually, I'm not a big fan of the first film either, for precisely the same reasons you mention. However, Production IG looks like they're doing their usual world class job in terms of animation, which is my main drawing point for this film. Same sentiment here: I'm rather fond of the GitS movie for its technical performances than for its story depth and/or faithfullness to the original manga While I will admit that the GitS movie is technically impressive, I can't really appreciate that much because of how the movie was hyped. In the movie's own hype they compare it to Akira, but if you really do compare the animation in both movies GitS isn't even in the same league, by far. Now I can't watch the movie without that comparison in my head. wow, completely disagree.. GitS does stuff that you would even dream of back in the day Akira was made... the CGI and hand drawn stuff is seemless, and the mood and pacing are just incredible. while akira is amazing considering when it was made, the character animation, fluidity of movement just doesn't stack up. GitS is the first japanese animation where I looked at the character animation done and thought that it was on par or better than anything disney has ever put out... even when they were just rotoscoping stuff.

Yeah, but Newca is right, those thrusters only appear in that one scene as far as I know. I've always wondered about that... Could well be anime magic. that it only appeared once means nothing.. plenty of things we accept as cannon only appeared once.. the little manipulator arms in the main arms for instance... the super missile thing that Max does. besides, you have to think of the context.. that was a pretty big scene, animated for the movie, they wouldn't let a gaff like that slide in this situation as that screen would have been scripted, edited, pre-production sketches drawn up... it's not like anime-fiend drew it or something.

if yamato is intent on keeping the scale 1/72... then I voted for the detachable gear... but please yamato, scale this thing up, give us a 1/60 or better! -

HEDU SHIKURUPUTU WA SAKU DESU NE!!!!!!!!!! I don't get it...

please, no one mentioned anything about the macross plus toys. this was strictly concerning the alpha versus the 1/60 valks. a quick look over the last few pages and you will see numerous people who have had problems with: alpha assembled with still wet paint various parts breaking off: arms missile hatches sensor hatch hands falling apart (since you brought it up, versus two issues for the 1/72 line, one resolved right away ) alphas assembled with missing parts.. like the little rubber washers they use on the joints. alphas that do not transform properly, legs are not symmetrical. limbs that do not extend fully and those are just the QC errors. how about design problems? the missiles in the arm are only 1/3 exposed. the fighter mode bows, with the nose pointing up. the landing gear that does not reach the ground the diecast metal on weak hinges the lack of posability due to weak joints (floppy arm syndrome) now, compare to the 1/60. I'm sorry, but floppy hips and arms that don't rotate fully really don't compare. And yeah, the 1/60 does require part swapping... and? that's something we knew from the beginning.. it wasn't a surprise... toynami didn't tell me that I would have to take a chisel to my alpha to get it to transform. and yes, bring up the 1/72 scale toys now as well.. though, they had nothing to do with this.. let's bring up the MPCs then, shall we? let's see.. Tab B... fixed on second batch. MPC: floppy legs that won't stay put in fighter or battroid mode... never fixed. VF-11B's hips: yup, that sucked, bad yamato. mpc: hands that won't stay lock in the extended position, never fixed. broken shoulders on the yf-21: how is that yamato's fault? that's neither a manufacturing defect or design flaw, most people didn't break that joint. as for the paint job.. yes, the alpha does have a more difficult paint job... and? toynami is the one that chose to paint their hands instead of just having them molded in plastic of the right color toynami is the one that chose to paint the knees, instead of molding in color. they made those decisions and they couldn't do it right... and please, all die cast is going to chip... even soul of chogokin stuff. even the almight MPC prime. the difference is, at least out of the box, that die cast is good, with the exception of the occasional mistake... the MPC on the other hand, is flawed, with the exception of the occasional good unit. want proof? just look at all the returns. people offloading their alphas left and right. stores refusing to take returns or exchanges because of the high rate of damaged stock. you like yours? that's great, I like mine too.. but really, trying to compare the alpha to anything other than the MPC vf-1 line is a joke.
-
ugh. that's so obviously ugly... what are they thinking? the vf-0 looks like someone stuck bri's head on from appleseed.
-
I don't think the armor can transofrm though I do think that it is removable... if you notice the chest piece on the armor, there are no indications that it is anything but big block of plastic.
-
man, cannot wait till my order arrives... I got a max 1a just on the off chance someone would make a good vf-1s head and now the day is almost here!
-
wow, that's great work, thanks for sharing with us!
-
Hmm, I don't think comparing the alpha to the 1/60 VF-1 is fair at all. my VF-1s had no paint problems, no fused joints, all the gimmicks worked and is not brittle or fragile. I also did not need to take the VF-1s apart to repair manufacturing defects.

What do you guys think of the new Exorcist movie?
eugimon replied to SupremeKaioshin's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
To me, film IS art. I'm a film buff, its something I enjoy immensely. And yes, many movies are great without being deep or high art, but it is true the Hollywood system has become greatly flawed. well, I guess for me, art can be mundane, it doesn't always have to be something deep or meaningful. for example, much of waht we consider great art today, the various portraits, landscapes even religious works would be considered commercial art by today's standards. this was work done on commission with specifc and measurable goals by contracted artisans for wealthy patrons or religious bodies. it is their craftsmanship that is genius... more modern examples, pop art, mundane statues of people by duane hanson, comic and graphic art.. roy lichtenstein, disney, schultz... much of graphic art leading the way for fine art-andy warhol... art can be just about the crafstmanship, the vicersal response, the emotional response, the intellectual response. the idea that art should serve some higher purpose than aesthetic appeal or as a record is something that is very recent and I'm not sure it is entirely warranted. for instance, the works of edward munch... technically not the best, but no one will argue that his works are not vicerally powerful. and yet, does little else but explore emotions and color. so film then... why should film be so much different? why shouldn't a movie of high craftsmanship.. say the bourne identity, that does nothing but tell a fun story but does it competently and smartly be considered art as well then? why must film art be limited to the esoteric or intellectually elite? And once again, to say the hollywood system is flawed is easy to say, but there are more production companies today that cater to the independant film market than ever before as well as the growing numbers of art film festivals... objectively, I think it is too easy to say that the hollywood system is flawed... the hollywood system is about money and they will produce, well, at least purchase and show whatever will make money. I think the real flaw lies in independent film makers who produce movies of no interest other than to a small group of people and than feel slighted when the majority takes no interest as is well their right to do so. If you have a vision and no one cares, it is not necessarily the fault of the viewer, your vision just may be uniteresting. And once again... in any given year, I sincerely believe the ratio of crap movies to good movies remains the same for the pop world as it does the indie world... granted there is much more of it in the pop market but that is simply because more such movies are made. But there is nothing wrong with that as well, there is a place for commercial art and who is to say what commercial art will become high art with the passage of time? -
hmm, looks interesting, never really cared for the anime so I'm not terribly excited by the toy... but it looks good, if it has a decent price, I'll probably pick one up.

post them... post them.... the more angles and pics we get, the clearer picture we'll get of what they actually look like... besides, sometimes not so good pictures show the product more truthfully than the nice looking ones... just think of all those pics that make the MPC VF-1 look good...
