d'oh thinking of star wars at the time... hahaha. I'm going back to playing video games now

i think in the states, as long as there is HG lording over the macross rights, macross will never establish itself... it just isn't worth the legal fights to get macross here, when it's so much easier to get anime that doesn't have licensing battles and air in on TV or cable... in this way, robotech, might be macross' only hope... if the new robotech series does well, I'm sure the new fans will want to see the old stuff, and hopefully through that, we can get them to come over and enjoy macross...

Who saw Resident Evil: Apocalypse? (+ ZOMBIE News)
eugimon replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
saw it, much better than the first one.... much. fight scenes were a bit choppy but acceptable. jill valentine, the actress is cute... but man, she cannot act worth a dime. and her gun work sucks.... half the time I was afraid she was going to hurt herself... and she does the ubiquitous double cock... she's firing her gun and then in the next scene, she chambers a bullet... why do they always do this? overall, it's a fun flick, thought it was better than some of the other popcorn flicks that came out this summer... namely avp -
wow, while all this arguing about a valk's power plant is very interesting... I would just like to throw in my two cents... macross was created in the 70s... before the incident at 3 mile island... when nuclear energy was thought to be the greatest thing since sliced bread... and people were saying all sorts of crazy things... nuclear powered cars and stuff like that. I think this may simply be a case where the creators used nuclear energy because that was what was available, threw in some buzz words and just left it at that... really, if you think about it... if a valks engines are fission nuclear reactors, use plasma for whatever reason, superheating air or other fuel... you're talking about a system that would generate TONS of heat, would need amazingly precise megnetic fields... tons of maintanence... I mean, to compensate for the jarring every time one of those things took a step alone.

Let the kids have their fun. Most of us old-timers will just sit back and let the kids make fools of themselves. Why is this thread still here? it's summer. I have two weeks left before school starts up, my girl friend is visting family in the philipines.

Hey sup, my friend bought an Alpha there. Be careful they are VERY picky about returns. The alphas are pretty cheap on ebay now. heh. I work there the manager is kinda... well... if you come in on saturdays, the manager on saturdays is much nicer. Josh!!?? no, not josh, but I know josh.

and coincidently, officials named this island Macross. why would they name the island macross?

YF-19FP SACRIFICE. What could you do without?
eugimon replied to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0's topic in Toys
hmmm, good point. -
well, there's also the question of where one could use gerwalk mode... that is, in barren wastelands only... use it in urban settings and you would be leaving behind puddles of molten asphalt, and in areas with vegetation you would start fires all over the places. there's a reason why modern military vehicles that can hover in place do not just use jets pointed down. but this is topic is fast becoming a practicallity of mecha thread...
-
wow... so uhm, when is that 1/48 compatible version coming out?

Hey I'm 5 minutes away from CSULB... I used to stare at this sign my drafting teacher use to have in front of the class. Quitting school after high school is occupational suicide. man, meant private schools. cal state long beach is a public school... hahaha.

if anyone is still interested in getting an mpc alpha, and if you live in southern california: the puzzle zoo at south coast plaza still has a few, and if you go and request it, this month all merchandise is 10% off because of children's festival that is going on in the mall.

if you live near long beach, check out cal state long beach. cal states are really affordable, compared to the private schools. and long beach, as well as cal state fullerton has some great fine art programs. avoid cal poly pomona though... like the plague.. they've gone all graphic art and the dept has been take over by meglomaniacle director with myopic vision. as some one who was at private schools and now finishing at cal poly pomona, here's some advice: draw. draw all the time. draw all the time from life. don't copy other people's styles, especially not manga and comics. The guys who can do that stuff well, can draw from life well, and they make certain choices based on their knowledge... when people copy, they don't understand and they make odd anatomical mistakes and perspective mistakes.... IE liefield... at private schools, they'll make you draw twice as much in the clases, and most students will go to all the extra studio time they can fit in. most kids who go to public schools do not. do this and the difference in schools won't matter.

YF-19FP SACRIFICE. What could you do without?
eugimon replied to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0's topic in Toys
yup, agree. if the FP version of the yf-19 is just the original sculpt with FPs I'll definitely take a pass. the original design had some flaws I thought... loose battroid mode, legs that were overly heavy and prone to chipping due to wings... not to mention the horrible fighter mode. -
huh, I didn't take his question as if a transforming mecha were possible (I would say yes, but dear lord why??) but what would macross look like today given today's tech/design. he does mention quite clearly in his post the whole spaceship, overtech thing.
-
meh. the original VF-1 was designed in the seventies, based on what was then a bleeding edge fighter. if you were wondering what a modern variable fighter would look like based on today's bleeding edge tech, I'd say look at the vf 17, 19 and 22. all three are based on modern day fighters. as for a more stealthy VF-1, I'd say that is pretty much the VF-0.

looking good!

full metal panic fumufu on the other hand is hilarious, and is much much much closer to the manga.

the GitS movie and the GitS: stand alone complex have very little in common other than the character names... the movie took shirow's world and transformed it through Oshii's lens and the series follows much more closely, visually and thematically to shirows original manga. the visual look of the two is very different. full metal alchemist follows two brothers as they try to undo the tragedy they inflicted on themselves when they were younger. the world uses a system of magic called alchemy, "full metal" is a kind of title that one of the brothers ends up with. pretty interesting plot, some light political stuff, lots of magic (but not a lot of spirtuality) good action, characters are interesting and flawed... it's a fun series.
