yeah, I would be worried about paint chipping. it's not a REAL destroid you know, it's a freaking toy, and I like my toys to look nice, that means no freaking paint chips. I say use die cast where needed, and leave the rest of it plastic, easier to pose, no paint chipping problems, less wear and tear on the materials. and, I would love to see some destroids in 1/60 scale.

Other Anime or Science Fiction too big?
eugimon replied to Bariaburu Faita's topic in MW Site News & Member Feedback
I'm opposed to the idea of a dedicated "other anime" forum. There are plenty of other sites that catter to pan anime discussions. Also, keeping the site macross focused means that hopefully, people who come and particpate are macross fans and not fans of anime X who have no home, just congregating here and making their own little enclave. -
I just watched the animego discs for the first time a month or two ago and I was blown away. I ended up watching the entire series in just a few nights. and while the animation and costumes can be just horrendous... some sequences, like the max and miriya fight in the SDF-1... just beautiful.

for me it was the war story... then the valks and the rest is just kinda a giant jumble. more recently, when I got back into macross, it was with macross plus, and it was the story again, the music and then the valks. yoko kano rules.

I can't see how anyone would ever think that FPS belongs in the domain of consoles... there are just WAY more FPS for the PC, and tons of thriving communities. console only FPS players are tourists at best...
-
dunno, I love my valks.. I add to my collection slowly, and I usually get pieces, that I absolutely love, rather trying to "catch them all" that way I don't feel badly about the pieces I do own.

got it today, played for a few hours.. the game is a blast. is it the best FPS ever? no. half life 2 will probably be that, but it is the best console FPS. by far. the graphics are astounding, game play seems well balanced (so far) but I wish the flight stuff handled a little differently... more like flight, less like a tank that floats. the stoy is fun and engaging, properly space operatic.

I loved this movie. Easily one of the best movies of the year... actually, at this point, I think it is the best movie I saw this year. Just a flawless superhero story, great pacing, incredible action, the technology is incredible... just amazing.

can't say I'm too impressed with cars so far... I kept thinking to myself, "they made a movie out of the chevron commercials?"

huh? sauron starts off as a humanoid, hedges all his bets into the One Ring, loses it and his body and the comes back as big burning eye o fire. lets a coupla hobbits toss the ring into a pit o lava and falls down and doesn't get up. there's the Mouth o Sauron, who isn't sauron per se.. but.. the mouth of... and there's the witch king, the guy on the big fell beast with the sword o flames, he's a human king who was corrupted by one of the rings o power given to the human kings of that time, he leads the other naz'guul. I know, I meant in the end, they show in the extended version of RoTK. where do they show sauron and his new body? the dude at the end who has the flaming sword is just the witchking, not sauron. -
wow... the the detail on the thigh is amazing, the way it splits in half... crazy... I think I'll have to get one of these as well.

When I heard the bit about the midichlorians (sp?) as the cause of the jedi's powers.. I wondered if the fall of the jedi was not darth vader but simply some antibiotics... doctor: there you go mr jedi sir, you should be protected from the flu this season... jedi: I sense a disturbance in the force, as if a million little micro-organisms cried out in pain and were suddenly silenced... crap, I can't use the force anymore!

Well, when people talk about how cars should all go electric or hydrogen, they really are not thinking things through all the way.. that is, things are not that simple. For cars to go electric, several things need to happen... higher capacity batteries is just one of them.. the other... electricty must become easier and greener to produce. Why? Well, take california for example, during the summer, even a small increase in energy consumption can lead to brown outs and even a collapse of the grid. I know that the situation is very similar and even more extreme in many asian countries like South Korea. At least in Southern California and many other mediteranian climate areas, home owners could easily begin a mass installation of solar panles on the roofs of their homes to add to the grid, but in many areas this would not be practicle. The only solution is to build more power plants. Hydrogen poses it's own problems. For one, Hydrogen is not easy to produce.. one needs to run a large amount of electricty through some platnium in order to coax the hydrogen away from the oxygen in water. Then the issue becomes storing, transporting and distributing the hydrogen to hydrogen stations for average people to fill up. Perhaps in states where that supply line is controlled by the gov't that would be easy, but in the US, this would be a major undertaking. Since the manufacturing and distribution and resale of fuel is not controlled by any one gov't or company, it would take some convincing to get so many people to shift from petrol to hydrogen. This would be an enormously expensive venture, brand new plants, new fleet vehicles as well as retrofitting thousands of independently owned and operated gas stations. And for what econimic insentive? How many people driving hydrogen cars does it take to make sense for these companies to shift over? And conversely, if there isn't a readily available fuel supply, how likely is it that the average consumer will buy a brand new car that he/she can only fill up at a handfull locations? And who will pay for all this? The government? consumers? the companies? And since the production of hydrogen requires enormous amounts of electricty, that can only mean more power plants. Perhaps in the US, europe and in developed Asia this would mean new, green plants.. such as wind, geo thermal, or even nuclear... but for China, India, South America, this would probably mean more and more fossil fuel burning plants.. all in countries that have little or no environmental protection laws. This is really a global problem and shouldn't be thought of as those greedy americans, although that is a BIG part of the problem. Americans tend to drive instead of walking/mass transportation and rightly so because many americans live in urban areas that do not offer real alternatives to driving. Also, standard of living has much to do with it... just look at Asian countries such as south korea and japan, which have superb subways and busses, yet as people are able to afford it, they begin to drive more and more, despite the fact that drving is often more time consuming that taking the subway. And simply ignoring China and India's role in the pollution issue is not going to help. As developing countries, they are prime candidates for testing and implementing clean manufacturing and energy production, yet neither they, nor the rest of the world want to hold them to task (as evident by the kyoto treaty which put a heavy burden on the US and let china and india do as they pleased), as the rest of the world seems blinded by the big dollar signs in their eyes whenever they think about those two countries. People don't give a crap because they see no incentive for giving a crap. And yet, when companies offer a decent product, like the new hybrid cars, people will line up to buy. Even though, financially, the increase in fuel efficiency has yet to offset the increase in price of the automobile... that is, over the course of the life of the car, the money you save in gas will not compensate you for the extra money you pay when you buy the car. Perhaps people do give a crap and they are willing to make sacrifices, but simply pointing your finger and blaming one segment of society or even one country will not solve things. As for catalina, you're taking about an island city that you can walk across at leisurly pace, in an afternoon. it hardly compares to cities like Los Angeles, Bombay, or Beijing. -

YOur right, you are no expert on how generators work. We have solar generators, wind powered generators, and dams, water power generators. Plus other ways to make electricty. But for the most part, nuclear power is the main stable for producing electricity. I think the main argument against what your saying is this: We do consume oil or cause other hazardous waist when producing electricity if we to have an all electric vehicle population. The rebuttle against what you state is that it is easier to monitor or filter out the few stations that would produce most of the electricity than to try and filter out millions of cars tail pipes with catalytic converters ect........so even if the generators produced enough emissons equivalant to millions of cars. Its still better to have those emissions coming from one source, than to have millions of cars smogging up our city. And we can put those generators far away from most of the population. NOt to mention the tens of thousands of people who dont give a crap and drive cars that produce more smog than a school bus. Besides, electric cars are just better. ONce they can get any decent milage out of an eletric, the will sell quick. Electric motors are way simpler and more efficienct. Internal combustion engines are technological dinosaurs and need to be put to death. To much crap to go wrong in a gas engine. K.I.S.S, keep it simple stupid. depends on where you are talking about... in much of the eastern united states, coal and oil burning plants still make up a large slice of the energy pie. wind and solar energy still make up only small percentages here in the US, it is only in Europe do you see large windmill famrs making a dent in the energy market. And Americans aren't willing to make new nuclear power plants either, the tree huggers really did a number on us here and most american's are terrified of nuclear power and are convinced that a generator equals atomic bomb... I remember greenpeace came to speak at my middle school about nuclear energy and they showed clips of nukes going off, talked about global ice age and all this other propaganda crap instead of debating the issue. People can say what they want, but for the US and most of the world... have you people ever seen the emmission maps of china and india? You want to talk about polluters? start there people. fossile fuels are still the only game in town. -
the teaser has me pretty excited for this movie, looks like a big showdown in the jedi council chamber... and those space battle shots look just great as well. here's hoping it doesn't suck

heh, I gotta say this has me all fired up... I just love the scenes with the witch king versus gandalf, and the mouth of sauron just looks wicked. -
You'll notice in my post above that I said I hope it will be cut. Some of us (and the majority of critics) think that Episodes I & II were both just big animatics gags. Remember Jar Jar? A naive Anakin casually destroying a fleet in space? The 50s diner scene? Flying R2-D2 or transposed-head C3P0? I think you get my point. What about Episode III will make me expect anything different? well, to be fair, ani only blew up that ONE trade fed ship, not a whole fleet of them. And he wasn't casual about it, he accidentally blew it while looking for the ignition swtich. And yes, GASP, lucas likes making movies for himself!!! the horror the horror. Gee, maybe that's why he's an independent film maker, told the directors guild to kiss off and finances these movies with his own money. Like them or not, you have to admire the guy for doing what he wants to do, and not making watered down, formulaic, safe for the masses movies like some other people.

And there are people in hell who want ice water, but some things just aren't gonna happen I see this one falling through the floor somehow. I'm HG is planning on doing this, they even got the character designer to do a cover for their robotech comic... how well it will be received is another question.

not true at all, many people were open minded about the alpha, and some of us were down right supportive. and it's great that you got yours at a lower price, but that isn't the price that toynami wants retailers to sell it at, is it? Besides, toynami people themselves admit they dropped the ball.

Please re-read what I said. I wasn't disputing the article or the findings of the scientists involved. I was merely giving an anecdote about a situation in the past where a few non-standard individuals were thought to be definitive of the entire group. this is actually a source of great controversy in anthropology. just for instance, Australopithicus is usually divided into two sub groups, gracile and robustus, but since there haven't been many complete skeletons found, some researchers think that robustus and gracile are actually just one species and the difference a result of sex dimorphism. kind of how if you saw the skeletons of a male and female gorrila you might think they were two distinct species because of the large size differences. And then there's this whole other group calle homo archaic and they don't fit in anywhere.. some have chimp like features, some look almost like homo sapiens. etc, but they're all from around the same time period. With this stuff.. which many scientists consider a "soft" science.. it's best to take findings with a grain of salt.. you'd be surprised how much evidence just gets ignored so that people's pet theories will make more sense... I'm not talking about the whole evolution versus creationism thing.. even within evolution.. like washburn's idea that multiple homo sapiens evolved seperate from one another and how that explains the various races, or how some people think that homo sapiens either evolved in the American continents or came MUCH earlier than is currently accepted because of tool and skeletal findings in Mexico... blah blah blah.
