  1. Before Gundam Seed came out, I think I would have disagreed with the idea of remaking macross for today's market... but I think with Seed and now with the sequel... a motivated creative team could do a good job retelling the story. I think even more than gundam, macross' story of a supposed outside threat and the culture clash that comes along because of it, has some very strong ties to what is going on worldwide.
  2. because a computer game thread is where we would go to see a video of a R/C jet plane? I think this repost is understandable.
  3. From www.bwtf.com 1/4/04: Dreamwave Productions "Official Announcement" BWTF has been sent the following press release. However, it was sent from an AOL account and not signed by anyone in particular, so take it with a grain of salt until further confirmation arises: Toronto, Ontario – January 4, 2005 - Dreamwave Productions announced today that after eight years in the comics industry, four of which they were self-published, they will be ceasing operations. Established in 1996 by brothers Pat and Roger Lee, Dreamwave infused a stagnant comic book market with art and design that effortlessly combined the then dominant “American” art style with the newly emerging Japanese “Manga” art style. Since then, the company had grown to become one of the comic book industry’s premiere publishers, producing a variety of original titles. In 2002, Dreamwave firmly established itself in the comic industry as a force to be reckoned with when it launched an all-new Transformers comic’s line. The return of the 80’s icons shattered industry sales records, skyrocketing the book to the number one sales slot for an impressive six months. The Toronto-based company’s other successful licenses included Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Duel Masters from Japan, as well as properties like Devil May Cry and Mega Man from video game giant Capcom Entertainment. President of Dreamwave Productions, Pat Lee stated “there are a number of reasons for my decision to close Dreamwave”, citing that “the shrinking comic book market combined with a weak U.S. dollar and unsustainable monetary commitments has finally proven to be too financially taxing.” As the only Canadian independent comics publisher, Dreamwave Productions has struggled in recent years to maintain its status within a relentlessly shrinking comic book market. Unfortunately, consistently diminishing sales totals over the last several years have taken their toll on the small publisher and made it impossible to continue. The specific details for closure have not yet been released but Lee assures both fans and clients alike that “although this is the end of Dreamwave as a comics publisher, I will still be penciling a number of new exciting projects in conjunction with other studios in the upcoming years.”
  4. heh, if episode 3 turns out to be little more than one lightsaber battle after another culminating in a really long lightsaber battle, I for one will consider the last two abominations redeemed.
  5. looks like a fun run and gun.
  6. Ahhhh... actually, from what I've heard... Zaphod does still have a 2nd head... it's just that in this movie version... it's in one of his nostrils. Seriously. Still, I am cautiously optimistic to see how this translates to film. The vibe thus far seems right! hmmm. dunno... one of my favroite parts is when zaphod walks around with a covered bird cage on his second head and pretends that it's his shy pet parrot.
  7. yes, let's see those two seater vf-1 toys!
  8. http://www.darkhorizons.com/news05/050103d.php 2 pics from the movie.
  9. Who's to say he didn't? Has anyone seen a shot of the hand exposed in III? It could also be part of anakin's fascination with things mechanical... unlike luke, he wanted to flaunt his artifical replacement.
  10. I think douglas adams, before he passed away, did write new material for the movie. Apparantly the studio asked him to trim the movie so he wrote more. heh. he'll be missed, hopefully this movie will be a fitting tribute.
  11. I'm also somewhat surprised that Bandai decided to jump the macross bandwagon... it seems like yamato is carving out a pretty nice market with their macross toys, you would think bandai would notice and try to cut them off.. revive that macross 7 line and produce some high end stuff that could compete with the yamato stuff. And I would LOVE to see a PG VF-1 kit... drool.
  12. heh, glad you're enjoying windcgarger... didn't really like the robot mode myself so I figured I would leave him for somebody who does appreciate him.
  13. thinking about? yes. making? no.
  14. hehe, seen this video a while back, but it's still great.
  15. for all you southern california folk, the target off culver and baranca has a swindler, and that honda alternator in stock.. they had a grimlock but I bought him.
  16. can't say I like the costume all too much... seems so seventies made for tv movie.
  17. I thought in the TV series, the kurgan/conner fight didn't end the gathering...?
  18. So.... anything yamato makes you buy? I waited for the 2nd version of the YF-19, because MW reviews informed me of that cursed tab. I didn't get a VF-11, why, MW folk alerted me to the busted hips. didn't get a YF-21 FP, graham's review turned me off. I DID get a Q-rau, despite lack of gimmicks and extras, a solid toy and I happily paid the price. Taking into account what respect members say and adjusting what you're going to buy... why is this such a heinous thing for some of you? It's not like I said I was NEVER going to buy one. or that Yamato was the devil's spawn. All I said was that I was cancelling my pre-order and that I hoped yamato read these boards. Why would I say this? Well, because yamato should realize that releasing toys with obvious flubs... and late, is just poor business practice. They shouldn't just expect people to gobble up stuff that they themselves do not care to do right in the first place. That "good enough" approach is what I hate about toynami and something I will pay maybe 40 bucks for, but certainly not a 130. And yes, do tell what is wrong with being excited about something based on sneak previews? Should we all be zen about it? For me, Yamato has been good to me... why? I used the reviews, listened to what other people said, and avoided products with obvious flubs. And no, I did not become a whiner and a complainer. That my 1/48 max vf-1a has some blurry paint lines, I have not complained or even that the landing gear doors on the left leg tend to pop open during transforming. These things, random errors that can crop up at anytime and would require close inspection to spot and would drive up the cost if every such minor flub resulted in a loss. But not manufacturing a crucial part correctly? That's something that should have been fixed. And maybe it will be easy to fix by the general public. That's great. OR maybe it will require cutting and some serious work. That sucks for me, because I'm not a modeller.. I like to buy toys for that very reason.. and frankly, I think that anytime I have to take a toy apart and fix it because the manufacturer just didn't care enough to do it right, that I have been ripped off, or at least seriusly inconvenienced. So yeah. I cancelled my pre-order. But I'll happilly place a pre-order for the 1/48 GBP armor set.
  19. there is NO WAY that the second movie was better than the third movie. Highlander 2 was one of the worst films ever made, while highlander 3 was just one of the worst films of that year.
  20. I always try to expect better from MW, but always get disappointed. Vostok 7 Expect better? Why should anyone be considered foolish for not wanting to give Yamato money when there's a huge mistake on their product? I was fine with the little things on the 1/48, things that didn't have an effect on transformation or the overall stability of the toy. This wing clip mistake is just too big for me to overlook. It's an asinine error that should have been caught before these things left the factory, it seems to keep the wings from fitting tightly and when they are pulled back for a better fit there are ugly gaps. I want this thing as much as anyone, but not until that mistake is corrected. I just hope there aren't even bigger flaws discovered as time goes by... Wow dude , you sound as if they had killed your mother ! seriously , aren´t we kinda exaggerating a little bit here ? how can you say it´s a HUGE problem ? or that it´s an impediment or an obstacle for transformation ? Have you ever played with/transformed a Koenig before in your life ? As far as I know no one noticed those so called ¨ugly gaps¨ until the tab-thigy was brought up , so how can it be that horrible or notorious if it hadn´t been brought up before. I wholeheartedly agree that we just shouldn´t pay Yamato for their crappy products , that our money is our best sign of power over them and all that , that we shouldn´t accept anymore significant flaws from them BUT isn´t it an exaggeration to actually bitch about this crappy tab-thingy when you can still transform , display and play with the damn toy without problems ? I bet the difference that this tab-thingy would make if properly molded wouldn´t bigger than 2 or 3 mm. I support and respect your stance though , I myself feel the same way about Yamato in some regards but it´s just sad to hear you actually prefer to cancel your order just by reading a little notice in an internet forum and before even getting the toy yourself. so to sum it up , I just hope you can get yours in time before they dissapear from the market alla Low vis and realise they won´t be getting re-released. Hopefully I´ll have to eat my own words and Yamato does a quick revision of this flaws , if its a more-than-one production run. But knowing them.. Well, considering the thing would cost 150 dollars after shipping and tax.. and considering I would have to ship the thing back, and considering I don't know and don't want to find out what the return policy is, I think waiting to hear more reviews, or waiting for a revision is not that far fetched. Seriously, it is my money we're talking about here... given that yes... transformation is comprimised (notice the wings don't latch into place properly) and given graham's concerns with the longevity of other latching systems, I don't want to just hand yamato a check... If anyone bothers to look up my past posts, you'll see I've been a pretty big supporter of yamato. I didn't jump on the floppy hips bandwagon, or the breaking back pack band wagon, or even on the yamato ripped us off by not including swapable heads on the 1/48 bandwagon. The only complaint I've ever had about yamato and their products is that their stickers suck. So hey, when the rest of you get your VB-6, and you guys find out a way to fix the latch and you guys report that the arm latch isn't going to stress and break, then hey, I'll be happy to surf on over to twin moons and place an order.
  21. heh, I love the way magneto takes them out. I liked the TV show, I thought it fleshed out the highlander universe a lot.
  22. well, that's partially true, lots of new yamato toys have launch issues. It was easier to overlook when they were a smaller company with little experience in the tranforming toy market. Plus, those early macross plus toys didn't cost as much. But now.. now they've been making toys for a few years and have had tons of problems with little stuff like this and now I'm just no willing to pay money in order to be their beta run testers. So I'll just wait until there's a revision, and if there is none, oh well. there are plenty of toys out there that are just fine upon first release.
  23. yup. cancelling my order. Thanks Graham. I hope the boys at yamato still read this forum.
