  1. Good points. But I see that you have some errors of your own. First off, its "though", not thought. Second, its beginning with an "i" and two "n". Third, until is spelled with one "l" not two and why is it called a soldier and why is the "s" capitalized? Next, the word you were looking for was probably protruding no "extruding". Also emerging is spelled with an "e", not "u". Lastly, choppiness is spelled with and "i", not "y". Theres also a run on sentence but I'm not going to go into that. Great points. Just a lot of spelling errors. Sorry, I like to rant on people who rant on other people. that was uncalled for. the dude was just offering some constructive criticisms. It is not like he panned the effort. 'sides, ain't no one hear speaking good engrish all da time anyhows. Theres a thin line between constructive criticisms and being "nit picky". I find his comments "nit picky". As an artist myself, I dont mind constructive criticisms. In fact, I like it. I feel that it helps me improve. But being "nit picky" is another thing. Thats just pointing out flaws for the sake of pointing out flaws. I even feel that Knight26 comments was a bit picky but I still feel that it was constructive criticism and could be quite helpful. Btw Knight26, I wasnt talking about you. I found your comments to be quite helpful and could actually help Datterboy progress along nicely. I'm actually glad that you contributed. If I was out of line, I'm sorry but I really do feel that broadshore was a tad out of line. I was just defending a fellow MWer. Datterboy shared a great piece of work and I dont feel that the "nit picky" criticisms were necessary. Especially when the video is obviously far from finished. Datterboy was kind of enough to share his progress. So as I said before, I dont mind constructive criticism but I will continue to defend my fellow MWers if I feel that they have crossed the line. I rather it be me to take the heat than Datterboy. Sorry if I sounded harsh.. I was half making light half serious... for me, both knight's and broadshore's comments were in the same vein, they just focused on different aspects. Knight offered helpful comments about the model and its state of completeness and broadshore made some helpful comments on the technical merits of the model and the render. I don't see what the difference is.. both comments are short, neither is dersive or demeaning. Both list some specific areas that could use further refinement. In fact, broadshore actualy compliments both the model and the animation. And while broadshore lists what... two areas that need work (chopiness and errant polygon) knight lists several areas that need work, lack of pilot, control surfaces inactive, lack of leg pistons, and lack of shoulder detail. I would have to say that if we are going to compare compliments to criticisms, knight is the far more "nit picky" poster (not saying that you are knight ). Anyways, as an artist myself and well aquainted with the critique process, I just feel that whenever someone offers something up to the public forum, feedback from interested and knowledgable sources should be respected and encouraged and not hacked apart for perceived flaws in delivery, as long as said comments are themselves respectful and courteous, which once again, I feel broadshore's are. end rant. ahem... back on topic, has Kingnor made a more complete model and render of this yet..? cuz I still think it's quite nice.
  2. I think most general movie goers in america would find DYRL to be slwly paced and certain segments to be rather silly... I'm thinking parts of the hikaru/minmei romance as well as the song as a weapon of mass distraction thing. Also... and probably more important.. I think most adult americans do not think of animation as a serious film genre... even on NPR which tends to be more progressive thinking about stuff like this.. they usually preface all anime/animation reviews with, "And if you like this sort of thing..." So I think adults need a reason/excuse to go. Hence why all ages animation suach as the sort from pixar and dreamworks tends to do well, while films aimed at mature audiences tends to do rather poorly. And don't forget DYRL in one form did show here in the states, back at the height of Robotech's popularity.

  4. Link is broken but Christian Bale is way more built than Hayden will ever be. Just check out American Psycho. So would win? Batman or Vader? are you kidding? batman would get cleaned out by darth vader. batman, most over rated character since wolverine, imo.
  5. 117 hits?! What the hell is this, Mortal Kombat??? Wouldn't it be great as Anakin prepares to finish off Windu, big blood red text appears on screen saying "FINISH HIM" Huh, huh? Cmon, that would be sooooooo rad!! probably meaning a 117 move fight. not 117 hits. in a lightsaber battle.. heck, even in a regualr sword battle, after 117 hits what would you have left?
  6. hmm, voltron looks pretty good.. well, except for the face, I'm not digging the face. plus the price is a joke.
  7. skip the 1/60's and jsut get a 1/48 already.
  8. I'll second that... GF's brother has the robotech DVDs and when I watched them, I found myself wondering why I ever liked it... it was just plain embarassing. But now that I'm watching the Macross DVDs from Animego, I feel like the story is still solid. My fond childhood memories are thus justified and vindicated!
  9. I'm leaning towards meh, but I'll wait till I see some better pics. never did like wheeljack though.
  10. yeah, while isamu was reckless and didn't seem to mind endangering his own life he seemed to be pretty aware of his wingman and whether or not they were in danger... if anything, I think he and max would have been in a friendly rival relationship.. each show boating, trying to get the most kills.
  11. It always seemed to me that Shin was the better pilot (over Nora), but his unfamiliarity with the VF cramped his style. Even looking at his first encounter with Nora in the 1st ep, I believe that he would have been able to take her if she couldn't have pulled a transformation on him. I agree, if Shin's objective was to take out nora instead of saving sara during the last fight, shin would have taken her out, I think. he pretty much got her when he dunked her into the water, why he didn't take her out then, I don't know. But then, I feel like shin flew nora into the path of the birdhuman on purpose rather than just as a fluke.. his situational awareness was pretty high. On the other hand..I thought the foreshadowing of of Roy's death was a nice touch... DD lecturing him to pay attention to the battle and not get caught chatting... and then getting hit in the same manner as the shots that eventually claim his life.
  12. gotta talk to ALL the droid parts sellers out there, they sell the components needed to put him back together.
  13. I saw the white meister alt at my local target, but I passed... he looked so flat compared to my red binaltech meister... too toyish.
  14. KOTOR II, in my opinion, is really borderlining on fan-made game. I mean, Obsidian took KOTOR's engine, and basically crafted a buggier game that's shorter and has a much weaker story. Plus, as previously mentioned, it takes FOREVER to get a lightsaber. Prestige classes for your main character and a few extra Force powers don't quite make up for the fact that KOTOR II is essentially a rush job. In the end, I'd say the only area where KOTOR II really shines is characters... while some of the characters, including ALL of the villians, are sorely under-developed, other characters were rather interesting. BTW, the way I beat that tank droid was to leave my party in the control room nearby, the go face it myself. I'd throw some Force Lightning at it (Dark Side or Light Side, Force Lightning is the best Force power in the game), then run away, heal up a bit, charge back in with more Force Lightning, etc, until it was dead. haha, I just left a bunch of mines there for it and then shot it a few times.
  15. got it. played it. beat it. currently in my pile of games to trade when something good comes out. This game was definitely rushed to market... at the end, there are plot threads that are just dropped and then ending is completely unsatisfying some huge questions remain. And I agree, the battles were very easy, with a lightsaber, ridiculously so. This game is a pass... I played the first KtOR through three times.. this one I wouldn't bother playing again.
  16. yes, the textur makes it harder to stick to the surface.. try cleaning the parts with a little soap and water and then when applying the stickers, be careful not to touch the stickers and then once the sticker is applied, burnish it down with something hard... be careful not to mark up the plastic though. hope that helps
  17. Yes, but we miss out on the *why* they're like they are at the start of DYRL. We lose out on what decisions they'd made in their lives up to that point. Because of that lack of background information, it makes those transformations just that much less impressive and amazing. Instead of history of missed chances and poor choices that lead to Misa and Hikaru's relationship, we get your standard Hollyweird tale of the male and female lead falling in love by the end of the movie. SDF Macross was much more believable in its depiction of that evolution from, "I hate your guts" to emphatic declarations of love. DYRL just glossed over that whole interaction and went for the glitzy Hollyweirdisms that I so detest. It doesn't even come close to adequetly explaining the scope of their relationship, of the hows and whys they're fit for each other. Roy was turned from a hardned pilot who drank to overcome his problems into a drunkard who was mainly used for comic relief. We got absolutly no information regarding Claudia's relationship with Misa, about their friendship and how close the two of them were. Actually.. I think you want DYRL to be a typical hollywood movie that explains everything... this is hikaru, he's sad and mopey because he got stranded on the SDF and everyone back home died. let's show a montage. this is misa, she's sad and cold because her daddy was mean to her and her boyfried got dead. let's show a montage. this is roy, he's sad and a drunk because he kills for a living. let's show a montage. roy and claudia are in love, let's show them having the sex so can all KNOW how much in love they are. let's spend 15 min talking about the technology in an eposition montage. Instead, they chose to reveal these things in quite moments, letting the viewer figure things out instead of one lame didactic sequence after another showing us explicitly what happened to them to make them who they were.
  18. Personally, I think DYRL is full of character development... Hikaru and Misa undergo some pretty dramatic growths. And for those that say what happened to Roy and Claudia and Max and whoever else.. tough, the movie was about Hikaru and Misa as the central characters. In the same way that X-men is an enemble cast but the movie obviously centered around wolverine and rouge. hikaru goes from a shy rookie to a mature and confident leader. Misa goes from a cold duty driven officer to someone who is more in touch with her feelings and core humanity. As for the story, I thought DYRL hits all the major plot points... humanity united by an outside threat, humanity the result of genetic manipulation by Protoculture humanity saved by the power of love through a simple song. Things like the relationship between Roy and Claudia were handled beautifully in the debriefing after Hikaru and Misa get picked up by the SDF. Sure they didn't dwell on it and they didn't explicitly show the relationship.. but seeing the contained emotion of Claudia as well as Roy's last words are more than enough to give the viewer a complete idea of the scope of their love. The movie even manages to touch upon Max and Miria, resolves the relationship between Misa and minmei, breetai and exedore and the rest of the zentradi. I love DYRL.. I find that not only is it beautifully animated, the characters and story hold up very well and don't feel nearly as dated as the original series.
  19. But dont forget the anti un have had more time with variable fighters. So the question is whether it would have been a fair fight? What I would like to have seen is roy going one on one in battroid mode against Ivanov similar to the battroid street fight in macross plus where you see dyson and guld trying to rip each other's limbs off or the episode in sdf macross when britai rips the chest plate off hikaru's vf. I always was fond of seeing battroids get wrecked and damaged. When there is no gunpod ammo left, a lack of fuel, and all your missiles are used up, it's up to both of them to try thier hand at mech to mech close combat for a showdown. (no more game playing or running away bs) While all that is happening Nora is enraged and tries to kill Roy and because he is half damaged from the fight with Ivanov, he ejects. Shin fights her in one last decisive battle, while much later on, the monster does its usual thing of shooting the birdmech which is indiscriminately killing everything. There you go: an easy alternate change of events that allows us to see who is decisively better without just killing off the aces so suddenly. I find that when characters die so suddenly (roy's death from loss of blood in sdf:macross) it just leaves a negative taste in your mouth. You want them to go in a dramatic fashion (like roy's death in DYRL). It's ok with Kakizaki but Ivanov and Nora are the main bad guys. Hmm.. I really like the way Roy's death was handled in SDF Macross... For me, MAcross was never about glorifing war... so showing the random senselessness of it all seemed perfectly fitting. As for Nora... and DD... well... for me, it felt like the ending to Zero was rushed. I think they really could have benefited from another epsidoe to flesh things out and bring things to a more complete conclusion. DD's death I thought was fitting... here was a hardened vet finally realizing the insanity of war and just snapping.. wanting to put an end to it, letting his ego and blood lust get the better of him. Which I thought played nicely against how Shin and Roy chose to handle the same situation.
  20. The Macross Compendium ( http://www.anime.net/macross/index.html#menu ) is a good, probably the best, place to go for all questions technical as it relates to Macross... unlike some other sites, the stats posted there are canon and not fan conjecture for say, RPG's and the like. Anyways, when Roy shoots down those missiles, he's using the lasers mounted on the head... that's why you see the explosions almost right away. And he's actually hitting the missiles themselves. As for the gunpod, that thing fires 35mm rounds.
  21. Actually, I don't think DD was sadistic at all... when nora had the mechanic by the family jewels, it was DD who pulled her off him and even lectured her a bit. And even when DD and Roy were dogfighting, DD's attitude seemed more of a teacher who was pleased/curious of how his student progressed. Plus, he seemed genuinely fond of Nora. Nora on the other hand thought and talked about killing much all the time, took delight in beating up shin and seemed to really enjoy taking people out. I have to say, the first time I watched the series, I wasn't too impressed.. I liked the dogfights, which I thought were verry well done... but now that I've watched through a few more times... I like the story as well.
  22. that is definitely not the tie defender... tie defender comes along much later, and has three wings that look like the got taken off tie intercepters but instead of the fins being folded in, are folded out. Besides, the tie defender comes along after RotJ... in the game, the empire finally catches on the shields and a hyperdrive on snub fighter is a good thing.
  23. yup. that's the one I bought as well... sad that I don't see anything else that I want form the guy.. but my disc is perfect, like I said.. and shippment was very fast.. went out the next day, and since he lives in the same state as me, got it a day later.
  24. yeah, I'll probably use mine to pay down my debt(s)... sob sob... but maybe I'll use some to get a GBP armor set... muahahaha.
  25. Got my disc today...have to say it's pretty darn good... super fast shipping, great quality.. I''ll happily buy from this guy again.
