The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya Thread

nah, it's pretty different. those are only surface similarities... the characters, their motivations are pretty different. Besides, quiet short haired mysterious type girl character is pretty much a standard feature in anime. -
I personally am going to miss the bulk it had in the line art, but I do realize this is absolutly necissary for the YF-19 not to look like a flying pregnant whale in fighter mode so I can live with it. 410658 with the new thicker fuselage it already looks pretty bulky in fighter mode.. if those shoulders were beefed up anymore, I would be screaming bloody murder about how my lovely valkyrie was being turned into some kibbly flying box of a transformer.

Yes. And it rules. 408089 Well then it's HELLA different from the manga! Which is on the boring side while feeling like a rip-off of NGE and just makes me wanna shot the b@tch(Asuka-clone). So... it's like FLCL then. 410589 There's a manga too? And it's like NGE? Weird, neither the anime nor the novel(s) it's based on are anything like Eva. I'm curious to see the manga now, just to see how different it is from the novel. 410657 well, the only thing that is really similar to NGE are the episodes in NGE where they look at how messed up Shinji is inside his head... so actually, it's not really like NGE either... well, they do fight big monsters once in a while but they don't use big robot clones of their mothers or anything. -
That's one of the things I loved about the first star wars movies. Lucas doesn't sit their and explain what hyperspace is, or how a lightsaber works... everyone in that universe just accepts all those things and takes them for granted and as a result, the audience does at well... Most modern sci-fi spends half the move in exposition, explaining stuff to the audience.

yeah, those missiles launch out from the fast packs. I wonder if that detail will be included in the FP or not.. since to my eye it looks like there is some anime magic there with the size of the missile compared to the FP.

Well, if the fact that the japanese TF fandom HATES the Kiss Transformers line, I think they have some common sense. But so far Takara don't seem to care about that. They are banking on Kawamori's name alone to make up a large portion of the sales. Hasbro had nothing to do with MP Magnus. Takara released it after (apparently) seeing the Dreamwave comic where Ultra Magnus breaks out of his armour to join his brother, Prime. Plus it was a cheap way to get a new toy out without any significant R&D costs.Prime had no trailer because the trailer would just be a big box on wheels that would SERIOUSLY increase the retail price of the toy. Ultra Magnus' potential trailer would be of more use, but would VASTLY increase the retail price of the toy. Takara already got their money's worth out of the tooling, that's why they're releasing a 'Perfect' edition with a plastic trailer now as a collector toy. Because Hasbro deals with a much larger mass-market, they don't have that luxury. Prime is a Masterpiece because it attempts to transform from a relatively cartoon-accurate robot mode to a half-decent truck mode whose cab looks significantly different to the robot's torso. That's what makes it a masterpiece. Realism has never been a cruicial factor in Transformers until Alternators. No need to be rude.I think you're missing the point that it kind of spoils the fact this is a Masterpiece version of G1 Starscream if he is changing the design enough for it to be an alternate Starscream. Because the those additions to the hips now clash with the rest of Starscream's design, and the established design thematics of G1. The hip things would be fine if it were say, a Cybertron figure or an Alternator version of Starscream or something. 410612 if folks here can sit around and blast people they've never met (K-san) then they open themselves up to being blasted themselves. Turn around is fair play. if you look at the animated/drawn starscream, his tail fins and rudders disappear when in bot mode.. so the orginal design is wrong. If you look at the original toy, his rudders became big flippers that stuck off the sides of his feet, so the original MPC is still wrong? What is so bad about moving them to the waist when you gain better articulation and posability? -

I really think that there were some batches of bars that were cast wrong.. I've transformed mine a few times, sometimes while I'm talking on the phone and I haven't had a problem. Besides with the new bars, there's really very little risk.- 1056 replies

yeah, the figure is pretty craptastic. If they sold it at McDonalds, it would be a McCrap with Cheese. But the garland itself is awesome.- 1056 replies

I'm more toy than character, still, the revision of sticking the fins on the sides just strikes me as Kawamori feeling the need to put his mark on this design as it just seems like such an unnecissary move. What he did to the arms to enhance the jet, I'm totally cool with. I just don't like the liberties he took with the bot mode which seems just for the sake of kawamorizing a iconic design. That and I honestly hate parts that just seem to hang off. I don't mind vehicle parts that seem intergrated into the bot mode somehow, but a part that seems to just be there because they couldn't think what the hell to do with it bugs me. 410581 how does that work with having fins and rudder hanging off the back of his legs? -

Do a google image search for starscream... go on, I'll wait. Oh... what's that? No ridiculous tailfins hanging off the the back of his legs? But wait, if we look at the original toy, we see that starscream actually stood on his rudders and his wings were attached to his hips!!! So even the first version of MP Starscream was rubbish since it wasn't faithful to the original design!!! THOSE BASTARDS. Fanboys, pfeh. -

"absolutely unnecessary" would imply that it serves no purpose, and yet you follow up by admitting his vehicle mode is better... so obviously it is necessary. but whine some more, obviously better posability (longer feet, he's not balancing on his tail fins anymore) a more portioned body (now he has a waist and doesn't have stubby legs anymore) don't mean that much to you. Yes, lets all stay slavishly true to a toy that came out 20 years ago, even though there have a dozen different versions of him. Would you feel better if he came with little blue gloves? -

HAHAHA.. so when convoy comes out, it's all blah blah, his cab mode isn't tru to life, not truck looks like that, his smoke staks aren't big enough, fuel tanks are too small too far back! Comprimise his bot mode for a real world truck! And now we have an f-15 that actually looks like an F-15 and now the fanboys are at it again.. HOW DARE you compromise his bot mode for a more accurate vehicle mode.. whine whine whine. And by the way, the very act of redesigning the original G1 toys is being revisionist. -
Y'know, I've got all the 2-disc editions, including 5 (the completionist in me won't let me exclude even the dreck), and after watching all the interviews with Shatner, I'm not sure whether he's just got a really quirky sense of humour, or there's been some head trauma in recent years. Thinking about these reboot notions, that's essentially what they did with TNG. Sure, the original Trek was the backstory, but they moved it forward enough that the situations and relationships could be significantly different. I'd almost prefer another leap forward rather than going into the past again. 410280 I think one of the reasons why they're thinking of the reboot is that the writers wrote enough of the future in that fanboys are going to start the whine fest... where are the holographic displays? In epsidoe XX of DS9 they clearly mentioned holographic displays...

I've transformed my garland a few times now and I haven't had a problem with my swing arms.. I'm wondering if maybe there was a batch where the metal was cast improperly leaving it weakend or stressed?- 1056 replies

blah blah, the new version is far superior. the legs are of decent length now now and his feet don't have those ridiculous tail fins hanging off the back. And his under carriage is a lot smother now. -
From the CAD drawing on the first page, it looks like they thickened the fuselage up considerably in order to make this guy work. Hmmm.. it looks a little off when compared to the anime line art but it's still one sexy beast!
