The Megazone 23 Garland By Yamato Thread
eugimon replied to Renato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
huh... I don't know.. other than the escaflowne, the 1st release of yf-19 and the vf-11, which were all early on in the yamato entry into transforming mecha, I have never had a toy break on me. This is after severl big falls and being handled by people who were not familiar with the toy, including failed attempts at transforming the 1/48. I hear people complaining that they are fragile or comparing them to bandai toys but I never thought that was very fair.. those bandai toys have very simplified transformations and make some pretty big departures from the anime in order to make the toys sturdier. The yamato designs stay much more faithful to the original anime and are much much much more complex. Sure they need to be handled with more care, but that is not the same thing as poor design/materials. My Garland is still going strong.- 1056 replies

1/48+fp's, 1/60, And 1/72 Picture Gallery Pt 2

wow... what a pain in the ass... and I know it looks cool and all, but rivets on a mecha just strikes me as silly. -
aiii-yah... I can't wait till my stealth gets here... it's still in japan near as I can tell. I'm kind of kicking myself for not getting the super version now though. You know, seeing them side by side like, I really like the transformation of the torso a lot better on the VF-0 with the shorter nose cone.

I agree, I've always loved the Yf-19 design and this version just looks amazing. I get all warm and loopy inside when I think about it.
-
heh, took a look at it, and it looks like it would involve opening up the fore-arms as well as the bicep armor... too scary for me. Sides, my arms are tight enough...

I knew I should have taken more pics... anyhoo, the white thigh halves are held together by 1 long screw, and only the back seam is lightly glued (on mine anyways). I was able to break the glue joint no prob. Once you do that, there are 2 tiny screws that hold the lower gray pieces above the knee. The swivel socket and stem are inside these gray pieces. Just spread about <1/2 mm of 1-ton epoxy on one flat side of the swivel joint, let set, and put back together. I didn't even bother to re-glue the white thigh halves. Next up, I may try the elbow swivels, but those don't bother me as much. edit - watch out for those 2 metal pins inside the thighs, almost lost 1! Two more for the road... now where's that darn pitot tube?? 411036 Done! Worked like a charm... figher mode holds together NICELY and the knees are all tight and lovely. And the glue on the back gives way with no problems, actually, only one of the thighs had been glued shut anyways.

oooh, thanks for the scans! It truly is a sexy beast!

Sorry, have to point this out: this whole thread is based on pre-release marketing. As for lead-times to production... go back to the first post in this thread. Look at the blue Yakuto-douga and the GP-03 - they are much closer to production than the YF-21. They actually have mock-up models. They are also scheduled for a September release. Depending on how fast the company is progressing on the YF-21, I'd speculate a release date of 2+ months from the month of publication of mock-up models. Which could be anywhere from next month, to next year. Note on magazine publications: the information in them is usually already a month old by the time that they are released. Deadlines for advertising/articles for some magazines are usually a week or three before they go to the printers - which is usually a week before they hit the newstand. (I could be mistaken here, as I am basing these estimates on the North American publishing scene - specifically the comics one - which, FYI, has lead times of up to 3 months for advertisements...) 411317 uhm... cough *19* cough....

strangely, I'd like to know more specifics.

if it does come out this fall, yamato should branch out into handling national security.

Was there a problem with this part on the VF-0S? I think I missed that post. Why'd you want to do this? Can someone explain or link me to the post? Thanks. 411164 the current release of the VF-0 has some loose joints, the swivel joint in the knees and the swivel joint in the elbows. Not everyone does and even for those that do, it seems to be to varying degrees. According to Graham, a revision 2 unit is coming out shortly that is supposed to have that issue resolved.

Official Transformers Super Thread 3

Not going around in circles, I've been pretty clear.. people here are whinning, saying kawamori deviated from G1 starscream, when there are already at least two versions of what G1 starscream should look like. The actual toy, and the cartoon. The cartoon is full of anime magic, with disapear parts and the toy was a kibble filled mess with giant blue boxing gloves. the MPC starscream, in his current form, looks highly posable with feet that can actually hold and accpet poses because it doesn't have a giant fin hanging off the back. Meanwhile, you have people ranting that the MPC isn't faithful to the cartoon.. yup, thats true, but the original MPC design wasn't either, as the cartoon doesn't have fins and bits hanging off his legs. Then you have others ranting that it's not true to the original toy.. well, that's true too, since the original design had the wings hanging off his hips and giant duck feet. Obviously, this design is one that cannot work in real life because the cartoon designers pretty much ignored everything but the most basic transformation concept of the toy. If you want something that is 100% cartoon accurate, you have to have either removable parts or severly compromise the posability and the dies profile of the toy because of the tail and rudder... the booms hanging off the hips lets starscream have proper legs of a decent length. Is it a change? sure. But really, all this talk to running kawamori up the flag pole, or saying he's turning starscream into a valkyrie is just absurd. But hey, if you want to sit around and argue about why one of scratchy's ribs makes two distinct different sounds, by all means continue on fanboys, continue on. -

Sorry to hear man, I play with mine a lot during the day, transforming it back and forth and posing it, without problem. Maybe Yamato should send out a whole new shoulder assembly instead of just the swing bar?- 1056 replies

Sweet, thanks for the How To. Now I just have to wrestle up the courage to start "breaking" my new toy... or I could just wait for the reissue... hmm.. hmm...
-
The last delay, nanashi mentioned midterms as a cause of delay, if so, then I would assume this delay was over finals/reports. ahhh, good ol college.
-
feh... bandai's version of the vf-19 was clearly a toy designed cheaply, made cheaply and marketed as such.. more of a deluxe transformer than a high end collectors toy such as the ones Yamato makes. This thing is going to rule, finally a lovely toy fitting the design of the YF-19! MUAHAHAHAHAHA!!

ghostryder- how did you get the epoxy in the knee swivel joint? everything seems glued up pretty tightly on mine..

woohoo! downloading now. sweeet.

I'm not talking about the fins magically dissapearing in the cartoon. I'm talking about the addition of two large...... things on the side of his hips. That is a much bigger change to the established BASIC G1 Starscream design than the G1 cartoona Marvel comic's removal of the fins in robot mode. 410843 fine, the original toy has the wings at the hips and the he stands on his rudders. the first draft of the MPC and every drawn version of him are incorrect because the original toy had the wings coming off his hips and were much much lower than where they are now, coming off his torso. -
I wonder if yamato is using that same polymerization process that one artist from germany uses for his corpse displays?

meh. The TV style hands are optional... having to swap out the front landing gear is not. Yes it makes the profile look more bulky but it's not a deal breaker for me. And yes, this is a slippery sloap arguement, but when we start with the business of swappble parts to account for anime magic, where does it end? Should we have swappble wings so we can display the YF-19 in the wing swept back mode? Because that would be cool as well, as for me, that's one of my favorite configurations in fighter mode but I know I'll never get to see it in a toy. For me, part of owning these high end toys, is seeing what compromises and what engineering feats the designer(s) goes through in order to make a real world representation of something so fantastical. P.S. BTW, i noticed the fat buldge when I saw the CAD picks at 6:00 am in the morning some two or three days ago.. I was still jumping and down and telling my wife how excited I was to finally have a big and badass version of my beloved yf-19.
