  1. Not true, a japanese production would only suck more. For proof, I present princess blade
  2. you keep saying you watched the movies, but your posts make it sound like you fast forwarded through all the exposition. The whole council of elrond scene was meant to show that by that time, the elves, humans and dwarves don't trust each other anymore and are too busy trying to save their OWN civilizations to mount a united front. And why do you keep saying no one else puts up a fight... we have the dwarves slaughtered in their mines, we have the elves FLEEING from their cities, we have the threat of the burning of the shire. In the north we have sauroman slaughtering Rohan... heck, in Return of the King, they go to great lengths to show that even many of tribes that make up the Rohan weren't interested in helping Gondor (Gondor and Arnor are the only people refered to as Men of the West) If you think the movies show the threat only directed against Gondor, than frankly, you just weren't paying attention to the movie.
  3. Meh. I don't see why you keep saying this. Men of the West only refers to the people of Gondor in the movie, sauroman clearly tried to take over the Rohan, which were northerners. Yes, they're both white, but they have quite different cultures and were well differentiated. If you can only break it down to simple "black and white" then fine, whatever. Then there's the routing of the elves and dwarves, who weren't humans, but drives home the idea that all of the peaceful folk of Middle Earth were at threat. On a parellel note, I read an op ed piece about how BSG needs to have a more "diverse" cast, nevermind that BSG has latino leads and more asians than any other show on TV. Please, can't we get over thinking of things strictly in terms of black and white? Just because people share a particular skin color does not mean they think a like, share a common culture, goals, language or anything else.

    1/60 YF19 rant

The yf-19 locks together just fine in fighter mode.. well, except for the wings, which have problems locking in the rear into the calves. GERWALK mode, is not secure. the torso/shoulders just sit up there but with the arms swung down in position, it's stable enough. You can't do barrel rolls or anything, but you won't have to worry about it flopping out of position or somthing after you pose it. Battroid mode is the same deal but not as bad. For the most part, the torso is held in place fairly well, though if you lift it up by the torso it WILL pop out of place. It's not like the VF-1 or VF-0 where it has a definite lock. However, it's not a sloppy mess. The elbows and feet have nice ratcheting joints and all the swiveling bits (arms and thighs) are nice and tight. The big difference, for me, is that with the 1/48 and the VF-0, the legs lock in easily the arms and backpack lock into the legs afterwards. In the YF-19, the legs and arms and torso all lock together at the same time and if you don't get it right, it can be frustrating. However, I don't feel this is yamato's fault but rather a necessity inherent to the design of the YF-19 in general.

    1/60 YF19 rant

meh. Mine holds its gun just fine and from most of the posed pics in the other threads, looks like other people can make it hold the gun fine as well. haven't had any problems stressing the plastic or the legs falling out, or the covers popping off. I will say that I'm nervous of the black on the fuselage chipping but it's hardly "Tab B all over again". And I don't get the comment about the canards either, they lock down for me quite nicely and make a little clicking sound. I WILL say that I don't think they made the wing glove quite right.. it just doesn't want to lock into the legs. If you take the upper body and arms off, it's still impossible to get the rear wing locks to sit flush with lower legs. which is boo. As for the comment about the chest plate not locking in place in battroid on the VF-0... sorry man, the VF-0 has it's share of problems, but the chest piece locks down just fine. And scream man, you think I'm angry at yamato? I think BoB is WAY more angry than me.
  6. well, they should take a clue from the VF-0 and garland.. stop being cheap and use high quality plastics!
  7. 1. Eva is a much bigger market than macross so there's more pie for companies to share. 2. The various Eva products don't really compete with one another. Bandai's models are not going to compete with their chogokin and those aren't going to compete with the various super posables and those don't compete with eva key chains. Sure an eva fan may purchase all the products, but they don't compete directly with another. For example, you don't see two model companies producing competing model kits. 2a. The PVC girls, are they in the same pose? 2b. Yes yes, people always find exceptions to the rule and try to use it say that the rule is bad. I didn't say competing products never happen, I just that they generally don't. Usually companies that are going to produce a specific product or carry a line, try to go for exclusivity in order to protect their market. Of course it is up to the holder of the IP to do what they want and with who they want, so I'm sure you'll find companies that will have two or more companies make the same product and have them go at it in the market. Yes, if bandai gave a rats ass they couldof/wouldof but they haven't. I'm sure any number of companies could produce an amazing macross toy. I'm sure even yamato could make another, improved VF-1. It's just a matter or returns on investment and how willing they are to enter into a small wading pool like macross.
  8. lol. looks like there's going to be an Angel Birds paint scheme for the Sv-51.
  9. I don't see where you get this, the movie makes it quite clear that all the inhabitants of middle earth were at risk, humans and elves and hobbits and dwarves. The movie shows "white" humans as both good and bad with some of the worst humans (those that betrayed their own people for power) as "white." LOTR is certainly not the SW prequels with their obvious racial stereotypes.
  10. it's more of a bonus for people with large TV's. Since the resolution of a DVD is relatively low compared to what a new HDTV can project, anti-alaising becomes a big deal. So with a HD source, diagonal lines and curves will apear smoother and less jagged. You are right in that a poor transfer will just make the defects more apparant.
  11. Hmmm... I'm kinda horrified by the idea of a purple yf-19 but let's get some PS fiends to get to work!

I love that you commented on it
  15. I doubt it will happen though. You rarely see IP holders license out their stuff to two seperate companies to make competing products. You may get one company producing a certain type (say, adult collector) and another company producing product for a different segment of the market (kid toys) but I doubt you would two companies going head to head for the same market. Too big of a risk, especially with as small of a fan base as macross. At best, you might see bandai producing one particular license (like M7) and yamato producing another, like mac plus. Though, I'm not sure why all this love of bandai. Their PG kits are awesome, but they'd hardly make great toys and it's not like their M7 toys were particularly awe inspiring... I like the VF-17, it's decent enough, but their VF-19 were down right fugly, imo,
  16. I'm really digging blackouts head/face... he just looks wicked.
  17. I'm getting at least 2... blackout looks way cool. http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/showthread.php?t=120407

but the thread is about the breaking shoulders, and graham wanted pictures of busted shoulders...
  20. meh, like any of the toy versions of prime were completely faithful to their cartoon counterparts. Maybe rid and energon, but everything up to armada had only a passing resemblence, imo. Anyways, I like the added bulk to the toys, I think they look better than the renders we've seen so far.. specially megs, the bot megs looks way better than the CGI version.
  21. heh.. and we worries about the same things... always wanting newer releases... always looking for stretch marks and sun damage. lol
  22. nah, good chance prime will snap at the waist, the problem is his weight and that his top and bottom are heavy but his waist is just plastic. His head will probably just pop off on the ball joint. The 1/48s are relatively light and are more likely to survive. I can say this with certainty because I've had more than a few 1/48s survive 4ft + falls.
  23. for sure, it would still be in a few pieces though.
  24. I usually have a few valks out and I'm constantly fiddling with them. And no, you can't handle them like a transformer, but this is not a sign of their fragility. MostTransformers are designed for 8 year olds and yamatos are designed for adults. Treat them accordingly and you won't have a problem. BTW, I'm sure if my MP convoy fell from 4 ft in any mode, I would have all sorts of bits and pieces snapped off or at least some nightmare paint chips. I've had 1/48s survive that fall with no problems. No cracks, no busted BP8s, no snapped off wings.
