  1. agreed, I think the book gave away the twist to early
  2. books are always better. well, almost. I belive the movie version of high fidelity is superiour to the book.
  3. I understand, appreciate that you have bad experiences with your yamatos, and apparantly sterling experiences with bandai. But many of us, like myself have had good experiences with the 1/48 line. I'm not going to get into other yamato products, because that's not the focus of this thread. I think what several of us are pointing out in your posts BOB, is that you not only express disdain for yamato and they 1/48s, but you also attack those of us who don't think like you do. Again, I do collect other toys other than yamatos. I have received toys from takara with stress marks, missfitting parts, spilled paint, poor workmanship, bent die cast. I've received toys from bandai with paint chipping off of the diecast right out of the box. And I've seen PLENTY of chunky monkeys with busted tailfins, with swing bars that no longer lock onto their nubs, with paint scraping off the wings because the wing and body touch. So please stop making it sound like we live in some sheltered bubble. All toys have problems, if you choose to focus solely on yamato's flubs, that's fine. But to say that other companies make flawless toys is just silly.
  4. yeah, I'm a fan of the series and I'm looking forward to this one.
  5. apples to oranges. but let's keep throwing out red herrings. Please trot out your favorite 20 year old series as an example of how anime DVDs are priced competetively with other DVD releases. BTW, I too can go to blockbuster and pick out DVDs from their bargain bin, it doesn't mean that all DVDs are priced at 5.99.
  6. people with small windowless minds, always try to force others to fit their narrow ideology.
  7. haha, those regular toys. then yeah, yamato's are WAY overpriced. but compared to other collectible anime toys, yamato's aren't that bad.
  8. I guess it just depends on what you're collecting. I got a tachikoma for a 100 USD and while it's cool and all, the joints are loose or scary tight, making it hard/frightening to pose. It's just to easy to speak in generalities and say "regular" toys or "other" companies. The specifics don't support the arguements though.
  9. boo, I don't see the subtitles and I d/l and installed their "pack" NVM, I tried playback with the divx player and it works fine. it's just windows media player that it doesn't like, for me anyways.
  10. yes, many of us like one or the other. Not everyone has to have the same all encompasing hatred of all things yamato, though.
  11. Really? do you have figures to back up that claim? And if the amount of discs stamped is the reason for the price of a disc, why is it that novelty discs and limited run discs cost less than AAA titles? And, I brought in non anime TV shows because you claim you can pick up an enitre series for 20-30 bucks. Which is about what you can get a season of TV drama for. Which is funny because I see anime DVDs on sale at target for 25 bucks and I see box sets on sale at Fry's for around 100 bucks, while a season of buffy runs you around 30-40 bucks.
  12. so because option A sucks, option B is good? your logic is flawed. anime discs are overpriced compared to other TV show DVDs. I'm glad you can bargain hunt your DVDs and find your season collection of Avatar or whatever for 50 bucks, but the ticket price for these disks are usually between 25 and 30 dollars, which puts them ten dollars shy of what an entire season of any given TV show would cost.
  13. anime DVD's are ridiculously overpriced for what you get. I own some, mostly GitS: SAC and macross stuff, but I'd rather just watch cartoon network then pny up 25 bucks for 4 episodes of naruto or whatever.
  14. and plenty of companies out there produce worse products than yamato, so really, what's the point? Everyone makes a decision in their own head of cost versus perceived value. for many of us, we are satisfied... dare I even say PLEASED with our purchases. I can understand and appreciate that some out there may not, for whatever reasons and good for you all, but in the end, it's a personal choice.
  15. but think how glorious it would be... machined titanium, with inlaid silver and gold for accents like the stripes and the kite. cut emerald for the visor. muahaha. no one but lord kung fu could afford it.
  16. I think you deserve a special award if you manage to break that particular part of the 1/48.
  17. anodized aluminum works for me. or brushed titanium.
  18. yes, I too would like to hear about the small fragile pegs that break very easily.
  19. the body doesn't have to be airtight for space, only the cabin/cockpit. And vacuum safe and made safe for submerging is very different. Circuits and gears can be exposed in vacuum but would short and die in water. for that zero to work submerged, it had to be designed to work in that environment.
  20. Aw, it's okay, in a few short months, we'll have the SV-51 to batty and complain about and all will be right with the world. But for now, let's just enjoy the batty fest re-runs here in the toy forms. Quick, somebody start a thread on how greedy yamato is for not giving us swappable heads on the 1/48s and *making* us buy the hikaru 1s variant. bastards!
  21. I think the price dropped on the YF-19 because of the YF-19 FP bundle. People are trying to offload it to buy the much more economically sensible bundle. Anyways, I've said this before, but the prices are fine imo... a lot of these newer valks are riskier releases for yamato having only 1 or 2 two canon paint schemes and less model variants. my only complaint has been and continues to been the build quality and materials choices.

I voted for all of them.. I assumed we're talking about the VF-1.. my opinion would change depending on the specific valk though...
