Macross 25th Anniversary! New TV series coming!
eugimon replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
well, original intent or not, the finished product is all we have to go by. And again, in SDF Macross, and in DYRL, there was great care taken to remain consistent to the internal logic of the show. The writers gave in-story reasons for why the mechs looked a certain way, why ships behaved a certain way, why the aliens looked the way that they did. Everything had a reason behind it, and the story and animation remained faithful to it. Even the real world physics people like to dismiss casually, WAS animated in the opening battle sequence and again where hikaru takes minmay out for a joyride in the VT in DYRL. And Sketch, there's a huge difference between the Macross and the Battle 5/7... the Battles have big ridiculous hands and fire their main guns like a big gun. It's just exceedingly silly. Sigh, forget it, let's just go all the way with giant transforming capital ships. Instead of pin point barrier punches, lets have them doing martial arts in space. And then the captain can yell out moves like "Giant Swirling Plasma PUNCH" and the Battle 25 can gather up its chakra and get all blow and glowy and then unleash it's devastating martial arts attack. Or better yet, with the new improved humanoid form, instead of having a singer on the deck singing, the whole capital ship can sing and dance! Whole fleets of capital ships doing dance routines, like n'sync in space! How awesome would that be??? -
after all my whining, I'm going to stick with the ver 1.0 VF-0s that I have now as well. I don't really fiddle around with my toys too often, and while the joints are loose, they'll more or less hold the poses I put them in. sigh... maybe yamato will release a combo pack with the reactive armor.

Sci-Fi Channel to air Macross Plus in June.
eugimon replied to UN Spacy's topic in Movies and TV Series
ugh, I forgot how much I hated the english soundtrack version of "voices" Still cool to see macross airing on TV again though. -
yeah, that thing is pretty crazy. apparantly you steer it with your shoulders and it has the engines mounted in the wheels. can't wait to see it in action.

uhm maybe you're in the wrong forum, this is a forum for macross, not this gunbuster you keep dredging up to validate the massive deux ex machina you seem so fond of. -

again, there was an internal, story driven logic as to why the SDF looked the way it did and why it did what it did. If you don't like the reasons, that's fine. all i'm saying is that the Battle 5 & 7 repudiate the internal logic setup by SDF macross, you can keep talking in circles all you want. -
The Xbox 360 Thread Elite Edition
eugimon replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
yeah. end of summer or fall is what the fan sites are saying. Though, it seems refurbished 360's are getting monster heat sinks installed. -
I've been thinking about this.. was playing with my busted CF 0a last night.. and I realized that the shoulder halves have to be put together because the bicep swivel goes over and around the lower part of the shoulder. So I'm thinking the factory workers are leaving the screws off, assembling the arm structure, POPPING the shoulder onto the ball joint and then screwing it all together, this would stress that joint from the get go.

bah, double post.

I wouldn't mind, but I would only get it if they priced it reasonably. and by reasonably, I mean under forty dollars. I got the Q-rau because I love the design, but no way am I dishing out that kind of money again on such a detail and feature poor product.

Macross 25th Anniversary! New TV series coming!

Well, since the mechanical designers took the time to put in vernier thrusters, and since DYRL actualy took the time to animate those little guys working, I don't find it unreasonable that I would expect that logic to continue on. 2. well, since the gun can move around on it's own, and it's not physically a part of the battle 7, I don't see what else to call it. 3. so, the designers of the battle class ships thought to themselves, "gee, what if there's a giant humanoid spacve monster somehwere out there that we'll have to wrestle with?" Bah, that's like the navy putting giant anti-squid saw blades on their boats, just because. It doesn't just call for a suspension of disbelief, it flies in the face of what was previously established as "realistic" within the macross universe. -
graham post that the entire arm assembly was being replaced. I still haven't received my replacements yet, but I'll post up pics of what I get when I get them.

never said yamato was rushing forward, only that they were... unlike some other companies who release version after version of the same toy without ever changing or addressing poor materials choices... such as takara and toynami. And yeah, I'm making HLJ a target based on graham's post about this matter. He said yamato was surprised that these parts were being charged for. Now, in other threads, we've heard of HLJ replacing busted parts from *gasp* bandai at no charge so why charge now?

I think the chicken hands look just right for the VF-0 series, the smaller arms and the fact that the wrist mechanism is partially hidden make it look very natural... unlike how they look on the 1/48s... weird and slightly too small.

Macross 25th Anniversary! New TV series coming!

This has to be one of the most poorly thought out arguements for a transforming ship. one, this is spaceand inertia is everything, so it's possible to rotate on an axis without changing the overal direction of movement. so the gunship could simply pivot in space and fire in a different direction... a'la the game asteroids. two, it stretches belivability that it's faster for the battle 7 to transform, dock with the gunship, and then aim and fire the gunship, then for the gunship to merely aim and fire... afterall, the gunship is STILL moving around in space in order to dock with the battle 7. -
why is that? at 14, john is old enough to be a freshman in highschool, which is roundabouts how old clark was when smallville started. and again, have you even seen the trailer?

which is a LAME reason to make it transform. -
there are a few differences. the shin type has more tampo printing, such as shin's plane number on the nose. There's some difference in the paint app as well, besides the white stripes, the head is actually dual tone, with the main central body of the head being one shade of grey and the side flarings a slightly different color. The other and main difference is the reported material change in the shoulder/upper arm assembly, the internal assembly should now be made of more durable POM rather than the ABS plastic that the 0s and CF 0a were released with. By all accounts, the shin type has the other fixes that the CF0a had, that is, stiffer joints, feet that lock out and a backpack that stays up in battroid mode.

Macross 25th Anniversary! New TV series coming!
eugimon replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
bah, that's a cough out of an arguement. Macross set up certain rules as to the why of things. they made giant humanoid robots to fight giant humanoid aliens. The SDF transformed in order to to fire the main gun. battle 5 and 7 had no real reason.. the maingun should have been designed to be fired in ship mode. it's like this, we all accept superman has powers the stretch imagination, he can fly. has x-ray vision, is super strong, super fast, has icy breath and laser vision.. but throw a giant cellophane net from his chest shield? that's just silly. -
this is anime correct, the VF-0 does not have retracting hands.
-
Ahnuld actually wanted Chynna to be the female terminator in T3 so you might be on to something there.
-
no, the logical place to put it, is right after T2, where sarah is reunited with john, and he's actually old enough to do something. Right after T1, john would be an infant and it's clear from the trailer that he is not an infant, or even prepubescent. He looks pretty much like he would be in highschool. Depending on the timeline in T2 or the retcon in T3, John is 10 or 13 years old at the time of the events of T2 and then sarah has what... five years or so until she dies of leukemia in 1997. But I think they're getting around all that with the whole time traveling family thing.

And why he makes robin dress in bright yellow, green and red.

heehee, a monster in HW2.... would be cool if you could land them on asteroids.. make them a nasty surprise for harvesters.
