Dude! there's a huge difference between Evil and evil. you were totally not clear that you were refering to Evil and not evil. Thanks to sketch for clearing up the confusion. I still disagree that AFOS is a left over Evil though, the AFOS in no way looks like it was "based on the zentradi" It seems more like it has rudimentary AI, (like the control room of the PC city in DYRL) and has some biological components as well as an interface, like bodolza's flagship. The Evil series weapons should be in line with what we've seen, Sivil and Glavil.

Dude! That looks awesome, great job! I guess I have to do it too. after 4 years here, I finally contribute something worth while

so, the one place where I thought yamato did miss the boat, was with the gun. If they made the the little port on the side of the gun a little bigger, and made it an actual slot (like with the gun pods for the VF-0 and VF-1) and made the the shield peg smaller to fit, we would be able to stow the gun in battroid.

meh, my very expensive PG kits don't come with the "special" cells. any drug store has them.

Hmm, I honestly just don't know enough, or care enough to find out, to debate the point further. But given David's point and your points, I'll concede

yeah, don't pay more than 15 bucks for an HDMI cable, unlike component cables, these guys transmit a digital signal. either it works or it doesn't.

Macross 25th Anniversary! New TV series coming!

While you're right, I bet most of the audience and/or potential audience, doesn't know the difference between sci-fi, science fiction or sci-fantasy or any of the other sub groups that people like to seperate themselves into. Further, I bet if they were confronted with the distinctions, the vast majority, wouldn't care. And neither do i. -
Hmm, most of what I remember from college astronomy classes was that the firs three planets were dense, and probably iron rich, but that the moon, mars and outlying planets were significantly less dense and considered to be iron poor: http://history.nasa.gov/SP-345/ch20.htm The moon is generally considered to be the condensed remains of a portion of the earth's crust that was sloughed off into space due to a large planetary impact, this would further promote the idea that the moon is metal poor. Regardless of the metal richness of venus and mercury, I think we can agree that no technology of sufficient level has been shown in the series to be able to sustain the pressures on venus, nor the temperatures on mercury. Further, most of the planets we have been finding, have not been dense balls of rock similar to earth, but gas giants, these would be rich in lighter elements, but metal poor. I maintain, that given the sheer vastness of space, finding metal rich bodies, suitable for mining and processing would still be rare and hardly the norm.

for the most part, I was satisfied with the level of quality in the YF-19, I'm hoping yamato will build on that and produce a higher quality product. Come on yamato, be the stereotypical japanese company and produce excellent products!

space is actually pretty empty, habitable worlds where mining could take place are few and far between and most non planetary bodies aren't exactly ore rich. Our moon, for example, is pretty much just rock. And lets say that with the mecha, people can mine strip mine like crazy, they still need to mine HUGE amounts of raw materials. It's not just fighters they're producing but entire colonization fleets. Outside of the capital ships themselves, there's all the smaller ships, all the civilian products, all the support equipment. You're also not taking into account the human factor, you say all they need to rebuild squadrons are raw materials, yet by the time the VF-19 has rolled out, they're no longer doing mass cloning. So where are the pilots coming from? What about the support crews? Not everyone born will want to be a pilot, or even military. You're also making an assumption that the military has the deciding vote in the government, or has the priority. This may not be the case, in Mac7, we're shown that civilian needs are just as important as military needs. I doubt the mayors of the various colony ships would take it lightly if the UN SPACY started mass conscription to replace lost pilots, or were denied repairs and facilities, just so the military could have the latest and greatest.

Well said.

vision and hallucination can have similar meanings, that the subject is viewing or experiencing something that is not real, or imagined. However, the term vision is more often associated with the positive while hallucination is used more to desribed visions produced by mental imbalance or physical imbalance due to drugs or other outside inlfuence. However, the way Keith used the word, it just means to view. In this case, AFOS is a type of sight, such as infrared. Sara is not imagining events. She sees the kadun of the pilots and threats around her and she reacts accordingly. She does not see what is not there, instead she is seeing the emtional context of the events and people around her. Notice, it's only when shin trusts sara and jettisons his weapons, does she see him. And afterwards, while she's talking with him from the cockpit of the AFOS, she sees the reaction warheads fired, yet she still sees the kadun of the carrier and the warhead. If she were hallucinating, then she would not have seen the kadun of the carrier, since she was already awakened by the arrival of shin. The AFOS was not evil. When it is awakened, it acts Sara SPECIFIC questions about the state of humanity. Have they achieved space fairing technology, are they still fighting each other. It's only when these two conditions are met, does it go into extinction level mode. Also, if it were evil, why would it allow Sara to save shin and the Mayan islands by containing the reaction weapon effects? The AFOS was a tool, it was left by the PC to make sure humans didn't repeat their mistakes. It's pretty much spelled out in the show.

You know, I often wish that the Macross producers would do little one shot specials, kind of in the vein of the shows on the military channel, but just on our favorite imaginary military. I know it's infinitely geeky, but I would watch.

Well, I'm no longer the top bidder!

The whole issue of support and logistics is a great point! And I guess even more than training the pilots, training the techs who service the new valks would take a long time as well.

nice! It's a pretty good incentive to get people to buy the DVD, instead of just saving it on tivo. -

That is good news! Thanks for the news and welcome! -
Here's hoping it doesn't get pused back. I really can't wait to see the reviews on this bird!

bacronym! hahaha awesome.

I'm sure Dave can give a better answer, but I would imagine when a new battle group is put together, they transfer existing squadrons as well as form new ones. Also, it seems that the new macross class fleets are launched approximately 1 every year, if we take the launch date of the 1st of the new macross fleets as 2030, and the launch of the M7 as 2038, so by the time the 11 or 13 launched, the date should only be around 2041-2044. Given that the VF-19 is confirmed as the next main line fighter in 2041, it makes sense that the 11-13 would still have squadrons comprised mainly of VF-11s.
-
heh, that's pretty sweet.
-
that's nuts, in a week and a half, it did more business than armageddon? I bet now bay won't be so coy about doing a sequel.
-
my 1/48s and my yf-19, those I fiddle with and transform, but after having to buy 3 pairs of arms and ship them from japan, well, I'm afrain my VF-0s will remain in one form... made whole again, but display pieces only.
-
yeah, there is a wierd lag in the deployment of the VF-19, it becomes the mainline fighter in 2041, but M7 takes place 4 years later and the VF-19 only shows up at the end. Maybe the lag was due to the change in the VF-19 design from the A to the F/P/S design shown in M7. Macross Plus does imply that the YF-19 was very difficult to fly, so maybe ordinary (compared to isamu) pilots had a tough time with the A type (production model of yf-19) and it took a few years to figure out an easier flight dynamic? Maybe Mr. March can answer it better for us?
