  1. I AM THE PROPHET!!! MUAHAHAHAHA
  2. !!! you won the raven custom! Awesome, congrats!
  3. I'm sorry, but I would be mad as well if the YF-19 were anything like the MP SS. SS is plauged with stress marks all over his back where the wings fold up in robot mode, and in fighter mode, he has huge gaps as the shoulders don't stow properly. It's hard to pose him because he's not balanced very well, his landing gears are jokes. Nope, sorry, I'll take my yf-19 over my SS any day.
  4. yup, that's it exactly. I think it's far more noticable when the fighter mode is being diplayed on an arm then when it's sitting on its landing gears. let me try: I used [ img ] rather than <a href...>
  5. not working for me.
  6. How is that pedantic? Or a non sequitor, you're the one who said that merely borrowing ideas from previous shows in the same genre constituted a ripp off. It's widly known that after star wars, many japanese creators emulated and borrowed ideas from star wars. Again, how are the zentradi larval forms of sentient energy beings? Just because they're humanoid space aliens doesn't mean they're rip offs. In love drifts away, minmei starts singing, kisses kaifun and causes bodolza's fleet to stand there while the macross and alies attack. Exodol even calls it a psychological attack. Yes, later on the love angle continues to be developed and it's used primarily, but it's not like humans and zentradi live peacfully ever after. They continue to fight and bicker and even in macross plus and 7, we continue to see human/zentradi tensions. In mospeda, they simply leave the planet. Really? Star Wars didn't have a love triangle? I must have been imagining the whole luke - leia - han thing. And going back to your earlier post where you said ray = hikaru, if as you say, young naive hero is a common story type, what makes them the same? This is my point exactly. Macross and mospeada use common story elements found in action/adventure type stories. The fact that they share similarities doesn't make it a rip off, any more than macross ripped off star wars, or star wars ripped off king arthur. So, it's not a mechanical problem when the anti-grav generators rip out of their mounts? Or when the gizmo that makes gun shoot disapears? Who's arguing semantics now? vader's look was taken from seven samurai main villain's helmet. visual rip-off... geez, speaking of pedantic.
  7. if you pick up a VF-0 in fighter mode, there's a slight flex between the heat shield and the chest piece, right before the air dam. if the legs aren't locked securely to the backpack, the fuselage ridge can bend back slightly at that point, causing the it to look like it has a broken back. There's couple of easy ways to fix it, one is to thicken the pegs on the legs with some wood glue or your trick of choice, so that it fits more securely to the back pakc slots, or/and you can add the same to the hexagonal pegs on the back of the intakes so that it fits better. I don't notice it when the plane is on it's landing gear, but if I have it displayed on an arm or something, the forward fuselage does droop slightly.
  8. or people could follow directions, and not snap it in two.
  9. love triange - hinted out but not really explored in Mospeada. Was a huge driving force behind hikaru, misa and minmei's character development. Can you say the same for ray and stick? space war - and? so now macross and mospeada are a rip-off of star wars? transforming three mode jet - no argument here. aliens that wind up being basically human - uhm, I missed the part in SDFM where the zentradi were larval stages of a giant energy based life form. idol singers that win over the aliens - minmei = shock and awe psychological weapon. Yellow falls in love with a particular slug and reasons with the refles to leave earth. Yellow is also soldier, minmei is annoying teenage girl who whines a lot. You really might as well say that macross is a rip-off of star wars if you're going to say that merely having similar themes is enought to constitute a rip-off. hikaru/luke, young naive pilots who are suddenly thrust into a much larger world and war, become pivotal pilots. Both suffer great tragedies that force them away from what they know. Roy/Ben - older and wiser gurus who have looked after the protagonist, who teach them the skills necessary to survive, both die tragically. zentradi/empire - huge space empire bent on domination, large capital ships capable of destroying worlds. Story similarities: Hikaru/luke get captured and escape from zentradi/empire and learn vaulable military secrets along the way. Hikaru/Luke place faith in an intangible force to secure victory against impossible odds - hikaru- love / luke - the force. Mecha/machine similarities: x-wing / valkyries: out numbered but technologically superior to their counterparts, and have multiple modes/ configurations. pods/tie fighter: cheap war machine with limited abilities but mass produced, primarily fight by overwhelming the enemy with numbers. millenium falcon/ SDF Macross: main ship of series, plagued by technical issues, constantly on the run from pursuing forces. Pilots/bridge crew use ingenious and counter intuitive plans to survive. so did macross rip-off star wars? no more than lucas ripped off kurosawa's seven samurai. The various ingredients are similar but the end product is sufficiently unique and worthy of existing in it's own right.
  10. There's back story, but SW lucas doesn't add anything in the prequels that wasn't alluded to in the original trilogy. It's not as is if there was no force in episode 4 and 5 and then suddenly luke learns he's a jedi in 6 and find out that kenobi was a jedi all along as well. This is essentially what happens in the macross series. Besides, Kenobi may not have explained the minutia of the force, but he explains there is such a thing, and how to use it. and more importantly, the AUDIENCE knows about it. We don't get blind sided it by it 15 years later. SDFM and macross plus, no spirita as far as the characters know. But then in mac 7, this thing called spirita is introduced, retcons why minmei and culture affected the zentradi in SDFM and then in zero, it's further retconned when we find out that roy knew about it too.
  11. yes, it's out seperately. tmpanime.com
  12. The only problem is, invading aliens, transforming mecha, those things aren't unique. The specific combination maybe, but the ideas aren't. And the way that aliens are protrayed and their motivations are wildly different. And while yellow dancer and minmei are both singers, their roles are very different as are their effects.
  13. If you look at kawamori's line art for the VF-11, the heat shield just kind of appears in battroid. Sumdumagi made a pretty brilliant heat shield design, that's not exactly anime accurate, but I'd say pretty faithful overall.
  14. they had brown hair and were both kinda goofy dorks. It's such a unique combination, I'm surprised you didn't see it before.
  15. What are you talking about? We're talking about the introduction of spirita into the macross universe. follow the thread. Last I remember, roy wasn't some spirita guru to hikaru. Nor does roy reveal to hikaru that the zentradi are genetically nearly identical to humans, or that both were created by an ancient progenitor race. There's a lot to the macross universe that's not revealed in the first few episodes.
  16. true... except for the magic heatshield.
  17. I don't think keith is saying that spirita is unique to the mayans, just the ability to interface with the AFOS.

  19. oddly, I haven't really noticed the broken back thing too much. If everything is pegged in, it's hardly noticable, imo.
  20. True, but I would argue that in SW, the audience is given a more complete view of the big picture through kenobi, who explains how things work to luke. In macross, the audience, and the protagonists, are thrust into a universe they hardly understand. Leaving the universe open for further development. It's a stretch, I know. I'm not saying I'm particularly pleased with the spirita development, all things considered, I'd rather the series hadn't gone the way it has and stayed with a less mystical and more military themed route.
  21. that's a nice double standard you have going. Everything negative that happens to your (or to other people's) yamato toys applies universally, and we're all idiots for not noticing. But when people report things that contradict your rants, you claim it's specific only to them. Nice, that's an interesting world view you have there.
  22. my bad, I was just going off of what was on hlj.com and betatoys.com. I guess that means there's only 844 items on HLJ that require batteries. However, you're still ignoring the fact that both bandai and takara are selling toys, that require button batteries, but are without.
  23. Yeah, I would just avoid the 1st release 0s and the CF 0a, the shin type seems like a safe bet. If you're set on the 0s model, pick up the release 2 or the ghost/0s bundle coming out in a couple of months. Despite it's flaws, VF-0 is a beautiful toy and probably the most anime accurate out of all of the yamato macross releases. The remaining issues: it doesn't lock together as nicely as the 1/48s, are easily overlooked, imo, considering it's myriad strengths and good looks.
