  1. I like the new skin and the color choices. very nice!
  2. you can walk out on a movie and get your money back. you don't have to sit through the whole thing. I did it for hostel.
  3. hahaha, that's awesome pic! I would never take a toy hiking though. Imagine if it did fall though, unless it survived intact, the haters would be blaming yamato for that one too.
  4. I'd love for a sci fi show to win an award for something other than special effects and sound editing. I personally think they should win for writing.
  5. Roy's death in DYRL mirrors SW much better than his death in SDFM.
  6. do they really? What movies do you consider to be crap? I want to know if we're talking about the same movies. Take eragon for instance, I had the unique displeasure of watching this star wars rip off the other day, the movie barely broke even. Audiences know when they see crap, they may see it the first weekend, because it's an "event" but they won't come back the next weekend. Though, they are making a sequel. :| Besides, let me ask again, what do you all care if they make crap movies or not? Or if people go to see it? It's not like the money that made tristan and isolde was going to go towards solving cancer or something. It's private money, and people's individual choices to go see movies that THEY like, why do you all care so much?
  7. BoB??? is that you?
  8. well, if you want to draw them well. But sketch is right, if you want to learn to draw mecha that looks realistic, you need to learn how to draw realistically. That means knowing the basics of light and form. I'd recommend taking some drawing classes, figure drawing (learning to draw the human body), and then illustration, drafting and some industrial design classes. Draw from life as well, if you want to learn how to draw mechanical details, draw motorcycle engines, and car under carriages, and whatever else you can get your hands on. Learn to render the paint job on cars if you want to draw 80's style mecha with shiny/glossy paint jobs. Or go pick up some military type magazines and look at how armor is applied to real world war machines if you're going for a more modern design. Just draw a lot, and post up your pics. We have more than a few artists here who can give pointers. Oh, and grow a thick skin, art critiques can and will be brutal, if you decide to do this as a profession. I knew professors who would walk in on critique day, tear down the ones she felt weren't passing and tell the students responsible to apologize to the rest of the class for wasting our time. haha. Seriously, this happened, not to me, but I was in the room.
  9. wow. that would really suck if it's the case. kinda explains why that ISD looks so different from all the other models in the trailer though.
  10. the problem is, different people see movies for different reasons. sometimes, I want to see a piece of crap movie, because I know it will be funny. Sometimes, I take my nephews to go see a movie like super-dog, or whatever the hell it's called, because obviously, that movie wasn't made for ME, it was made for 7 year olds, and to them, it's a good movie. Why does everyone care so much about what movies other people are watching and enjoying? If a movie is crap, it won't make money, and eventually the studios that continually produce crap will either die, or change.
  11. the sidetrack aside, I think you guys do good work as well. I have no idea why this got so heated, I certainly don't hold mospeada up as any sort of great work of anime.
  12. http://www.physicsforums.com/archive/index.php/t-16769.html The writer "enigma" actually answers this question, a poster asks if an ion engine would produce more thrust if you had a 2500watt power supply, his answer: "Ion engines work by accelerating ions in a magnetic or electrical field. You are limited in the rate of fuel depletion by the nature of the ions. If you try to push more out, the ions will interfere with each other. If you increase the voltage, you'll get arcing inside the machine." granted, 2500watts is a tiny tiny tiny fraction of the 650 MW that a VF-1 produces, but it's not a question of power, but a question of the nature of ions.
  13. really? Lupin in space? I'm somewhat dubious of the concept.
  14. the problem isn't the power burning the ion engine, it's the fact that ions have such low mass. If you can burn an ion engine long enough, you get good velocity, it's just with such low mass, your rate of acceleration is very slow. I don't think it's a question of the impossibility of a valk's power plant, just the real constraint of how much an ion can actually push. I look at ion engines in sci-fi as basically a real world name for a completely mystery technology. Kind of how plasma is treated in star trek. real world phenomona, but the way ST depicts it, completely contrary to how it really reacts.
  15. you still have to have reaction mass, and it have a suitable kick to it to be able to push a valk around. While ion engines are very efficient, at least with real world technology, they're very weak, so spacecraft powered by it are pretty slow.
  16. yup, It just stays in gerwalk and looks pretty.
  17. I'm just hoping for at least yf-19 level quality. I'll be more than happy with that. But I'm thinking we'll be surprised and this will be the best release in terms of QC and design issues. *fingers crossed*
  18. As long as the VF-22 isn't the POS the Konig is.
  19. yeah, I'm really hoping yamato does the VF-22, I prefer the head design to that of the yf-21.
  20. I was just going to post the line that graham was referring to, but the whole quote is just so nice.
  21. oh man, that thing is just awesome. I love the detail work on the canopy. I'm going to have to break down and get a first release.
  22. yup, we like our baseless speculation!
  23. I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams ... glitter in the dark near Tanhauser Gate. All those ... moments will be lost ... in time, like tears ... in rain. Time ... to die. that's the full quote, but Graham was probably just referring to the first sentence.
