I suddenly have an image of steve irwin (bless his soul) stalking through the urban jungle of akihabara... there it is, a rare macross fan in the wild! Look there! He has something in his hands, yes, yes, it's a scale toy of the sv-51, lets follow him back to his lair!

yeah, that's why i added on to my post that LCDs suffer greatly from color distortion outside their optimum viewing angle. And it is due to the back light, LCDs have a light source emitted from the back, while plasma, the actual pixels are emitting light. The difference between the two technologies is shrinking though. Newer sets like the Samsung LCDs have much more even back light distribution (hence why they no longer have the matte screen cover) and have contrast ratios that approach even pro grade plasmas. On the other hand, current gen plasmas have better and better anti-glare/reflection coatings that diminish the hated "mirror" affect greatly. Go with what looks best to your eye and consider the environment as well. As I've said, LCDs handle ambient light better and they're lighter and thus easier to mount. Plasmas generally have better color and contrast but will probably do best in a darkened or light controlled room. -

DLP has superior resolution and color reproduction.. but they're worthless in rooms have any sort of natural light, imo... these sets need a darkened room to be truly appreciated. A lot of them aren't that great for games due to the slower response time. They can be *very* sensitive to being moved or jarred as well, if the mirrors go out of alignment, you'll have to call in for servicing. -
forget the customs gallery, show it to yamato. have them ask wicked if they can release it as a low viz paint scheme and pay him for his work
-
GD, that is some great work! I think it blows the vf-1 yamato stealth scheme just clean out of the water.

LCD versus Plasma... in general, LCD screens have wider viewing areas, their screens are less likely to suffer from burn in (rarely happens to people watching TV but can happen to gamers if the game has a set "console" or user interface, use less power and have a matte finish causing less reflection and glare, generally regarded better in brighter rooms. Plasma advantages: less likely to have artifacts or distortions due to refresh rate issues, better contrast and color reproduction. I think there was a recent poll that found average consumers prefered the look of plasma sets to LCD screens... though as you experienced, sales people push LCD technology a LOT more than plasma. addendum: wider viewing angle on LCDs... while the picture might be visible from a greater angle, the color shift will be pretty noticable, while a plasma will give you a consistant image and color reproduction. -
Macross 25th Anniversary and upcoming new TV series thread

I really doubt it's a reboot. on the other hand, if the reboot takes place.. say, post Macross plus and pre macross 7, I'll be a happy man. -
I lined mine up as straight as possible and just popped them on. The other major problem with yamato gluing the 0s replacement shoulder together is not being able to check the o-ring in the bicep swivel. As I said in my review, there's a good chance that they left a lot of flashing on it and the extra material is going to stress that joint. Said it before, and I'll keep saying it, the whole arm design is just crap. The way it's designed, that whole shoulder/arm assembly needs to be milled out of aluminum to be able to handle the stresses of being yanked around during transformation.
-
for me, the arms don't bug nearly as much as the nose cone that just hangs all limply in gerwalk mode. Even with the arms breaking off my vf-0, the monster remains my most hated yamato toy.

laftoys.com has the woodland type on clearence.

you know, the worst part about the whole shin thing was how adamant yamato was that there was NO specific shin type and how the CF was the real shin type and on and on... and then, right after.. I mean literally with a few weeks of releasing the CF to market... oh wait guys, just kidding, here's the shin type. haha, our bad.

I'm not really a fan of the scheme, so whichever one looks the best to me.

I'm thinking there will be a trailer on the 18th... I personally chose to think they're keeping things hush so that when they do show at the concert, there will be more of an excited fan reaction. -

I always thought the key to good comic relief is when they have an organic reason for being in the story and they aren't there simply as comic relief... like in the wing commander games, maniac was comic relief but he was also part of the story. -
why would you want to recover?

While I feel badly for that little girl... at some point, I just feel like some people want the entire world to be made out of nerf foam and just blame everybody else for their woes in life. I understand lead paint in infant and toddler toys... they don't know better... but at what point do we stop blaming other people for the dumb things we do?
-
I don't mind the gold either, but I do think it makes the plastic magenta look really bad. But then again, I still want to see some decent pictures that don't involve flash photography.
-
I'm hoping too as well, given how unremarkable the yf-19's feet are, I want some nice detailing on the yf-21!
-
ah. and all this time I was thinking what a great job you did cleaning up the sketches!
-
Don't forget the recall that just went out over the MAGNETS hurting kids. that's right, the magnets.

I dunno... in china I watched a jaywalker get run down by a passing car... the guy got out of his car, yelled at the guy he hit for jaywalking and then tried to drive away before a crowd formed and grabbed him. -
Mr March's scan actually is edited, there's a little sketch in between steps 2 and 4 that explains the shoulders, but not very clearly. From what i can make out, it goes like this, the true shoulder joint on the yf-21 is not where one would expect it to be. If you look at the side profile of fighter mode, you'll notice a little notch that connects the air intake assembly and the upper arm. That notch indicates the actual shoulder linkage. The arm flips out from that point and the shoulder pads rotate out from inside the air intake/wing root and over the upper arm.

or as the chinese put it, stop being overly cautious, there's nothing wrong with our toys.
