  1. It's not about weird or "realism" it's that SDF:M and DYRL established certain rules for the Macross Universe and then the sequels subsequently introduced a whole new element that wasn't even hinted at in the original shows. Minmei's song had a very explicit reason for being effective and suddenly it became the precursor to some sort of psychic energy attack. It would be like if we suddenly found out that Jedi's *really* got their powers from a blood infection or something.... damn it.
  2. In the past, I would stick with a seller, even if that seller charged more than someone else out of loyalty. I mean, i would cancel if say, i lost my job or something (got the late 90/early 2000 was fun for IT people) but for the most part, I would stick with a vendor I knew. But now, I feel like that was just me being stupid because I don't feel any sort of loyalty at all coming back from those retailers. I don't mind if a seller charges more, I just want an equivalent level of service in exchange.
  3. Don't get me wrong, I only talked about yamato as well. I just wanted to bring it back up since we have such a yamato/macross focus.
  4. Meh, no one else is talking about other companies. Everyone is talking exclusively about yamato.
  5. Are you in manufacturing? How would you know if yamato needs to chrage this much or not? Can you tell us what the tooling costs on something with as many unique parts as the SV-51 or the yf-21 are? Or what the overhead is? How much the designers make? And it's not just yamato charging high prices, CM's Corporation, Megahouse, both of their recent offering have been priced rather high as well. I have the Megahouse tachikoma they released last year and I can sure as hell say that there's no reason to be charging that kind of money for a toy made of such crap materials and Ghost in the Shell is a far more popular show than Macross.
  6. yup, summer glau from firefly and serenity and a bit role on Angel. She's apparantly a really nice person and a lot of firefly fans say she's very approachable and fan friendly.
  7. If it would send a message, I would but I doubt it would. People who sell to America don't buy directly from Yamato, they go through buyers themselves, so it's not like whatever retailer you're dumping has any say in the matter. Maybe those folks in asia with a directline to Yamato could do it. Frankly though, higher prices is not just a Yamato problem. A lot of the smaller toy companies are charging higher prices.
  8. god, it must really suck if even jackie chan won't schill for it.
  9. I don't want to sound like a flag waving jingoist but I have a much easier time buying your counter argument rather than india's "our radar is so advanced we're keeping it turned off so that you americans don't crap your pants in a jealous rage" statement.
  10. Pass. I think they're downright fugly and with so many design compromises, they look like transformers... transformers with yamato price tags.
  11. I completely got you were making a joke, but some words and imagery are so completely loaded that they aren't acceptable for use other than in specific conversations about those topics, imo. Topics which aren't appropriate here.
  12. I think you're pushing it with that last post miriya.
  13. I used to buy based on if I enjoyed the show and if I liked the design. So I bought everything from armored core to valks. Then I realized I had a bunch of crap everywhere so I only collected TF, the odd Gundam and Macross. Now I just collect macross. I wouldn't mind another PG gundam or so, butI don't have the time to build them and I never did paint them up, so they feel like kind of a waste. AS for TFs... I don't know, I've just lost that loving feeling.
  14. heh. I'm more angry at the dollar than the euro to be honest. Oh Dollar, how far you've fallen! *sob* *sob*.
  15. damn you and your precious Euro!!!!
  16. I don't know what you're talking about. I just re-watched the trilogy and when bourne is having a "nice, calm discussion" the camera is very steady. The camera's movement corresponds to the emotional state of the subject on hand. During the opening sequence of Bourne Supremecy, the camera is everywhere, showing landy's nervousness. When Bourne is fighting, the camera moves around but in the immediate aftermath, the camera slows down. Bourne is also not the same character in the two sequels as he is in the first movie. There he's fully in treadstone mode and is almost a machine for the whole movie except for a few key moments. In the next two movies, bourne is very much haunted by his memories and he's disturbed by what they reveal about him. That energy is conveyed through the camera work when/while Bourne is reliving those memories and coming to terms with who and what he is. If you watch the end of bourne supremecy where Bourne confesses to the daughter, when bourne is talking, the camera is pretty still, but when it switches to the daughter, the camera moves around more - reacting to her much more emotional state. It's fine if you don't like the camera work, but to say that it is pointless is just plain wrong. The camera work is deliberate and it always makes sense when you compare it to the emotional level of what is on screen.
  17. no kidding, he didn't even fix the real flubs in episode 4, like the lightsabers and the nasty composite shots of the tie fighters during the millenium falcon/ death star escape run but he added a bunch of useless crap. I mean, I liked the mos eisley vista shot, but I would have rather he fixed the bad shots first. IMO, Empire Strikes back is the only one that really benefited from the SE treatment. Super clean print and CGI just adds to the environment.
  18. New Line is confirmed BLu-Ray now... so LoTR for BD, here we go.
  19. my sv-51 has loose thigh swivel joints, the wings are a bit loose, the gun thing on the right intake doesn't really stay in place in fighter mode and the missiles don't stay very well (I filled down the nubs and it helped with mine, but other people no luck).
  20. http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/Dis...-ray_Plans/1332 Finding nemo amoung Disney's 2008 blu-ray releases.
  21. I completely agree with you. HD should be made simple, just make it a standard 1080p w/HDMI and be done with it. No freaking 6 different resolutions, 2 different cable types.
  22. but your mommas in eugimon's omega pants right now...
  23. yup, that's a good point. Best Buy and CC still put DVDs out on the "just released" shelves but you need to peck through the HD aisle to find the latest HD-DVD or Blu-Ray discs.
  24. I don't know why you would think that blu-ray players will come down in price with HD-DVD out of the picture. With the dual format war, we saw a huge decrease in the price of players that was much faster than the drop in price of DVDs a generation ago. Basically, within a year, we saw units go from the 1000 dollar range to the 100-300 dollar range. With Blu-ray being the only player and most of the players being produced by Samsung and Sony, both of whome stick to the high end of the price spectrum, I don't think we'll see players come down in price anytime soon.
  25. yeah, and toshiba is saying this may be a breach of contract. I wonder if we'll get a nice big juicy lawsuit that will reveal all the financial backdoor stuff going on. I just want to say, I'm not an HD-DVD fanboy. All of my AV gear is either Samsung or Sony and while I don't think MS is the evil empire, I have no vested interest in seeing them succeed. Most of my friends in the tech world work for MS' competitors like google and sun or are unix/linux admins.
