  1. I won't argue that HD-DVD suffers from lack of space and thus, a lack of HD audio. But there have been more than a few comparisons between the same movie in AVC versus VC-1 with little/no difference. And there are examples of mpeg-2 just not cutting it. dead man's chest being a big example. That show got the 2 disc treatment and yet it still has artifacts in many scenes and noticable even on my mere mortal of a 46" screen. Anyways, I just don't see former HD-DVD studios taking the time to learn new compression schemes when VC-1 has proven itself. I think we'll just be seeing straight video transfers with the addition of lossless audio tracks (hopefully).
  2. to those that didn't click on the link: you all are a bunch of wimps!
  3. loosening the screws may help, but the underlying problem seems to be a chemical reaction between those rubber friction pad inserts and the type of ABS plastic used. I guess you could try taking the rubber out and putting down a layer of epoxy for strength and to act as a barrier. The replacement arms are supposed to be made of a slightly different material. I don't really trust it though and I don't fiddle with mine anymore at all. There's also an awful lot of flashing on some of the rubber pads/rings which can cause pressure on the plastic.
  4. dude, that was NSFW. you should put a warning on stuff like that. High quality hentai though.
  5. you mean like if kawamori suddenly decided that singing songs unlocked a mystical, rainbow colored power that you could use to fly around on rocks and beam valkyries into space?
  6. I suppose its easier to do an install then to find creative ways to stream off the disc.
  7. I much prefered the SW universe before the sequels came out... where jedi/sith were rare and their arrival on the field of battle was a momentous thing... where a certain person through the force and through charisma could turn the tide of the battle or even the war. They were special and powerful and they meant something. Now... they're just people with a blood infection who walk around in bath robes.
  8. I have three versions of serenity so far... DVD, DVD SE, HD-DVD... I think I'll pass on the BD version... unless there's some new content. I'm just a sucker for that movie.
  9. other than BD fanboys, I don't know anyone who can honestly carry that "BD just looks better" torch and run very far with it. Hell, most of the new blu-ray discs are done with the same VC-1 encode anyways. Disc 2 would have to have some pretty spectacular extras to make rebuying worth it. Lossless audio is tempting, but not 30 bucks tempting.
  10. okay, I'd pay 30 bucks for that.
  11. I wonder what's going to be on that transformers 2 disc set? Besides lossless audio...
  12. this is bob, bob had bitch tits.
  13. Reuters is reporting that Toshiba has suspended production of HD-DVD players. SO I guess that's it then. Wars over. I guess now we can all wait for michael bay to come out and publicly gloat over his precognitive powers and his followers swung the war in Blu-Ray's favor.
  14. SDFM: 10-15 DYRL: 15-20 Flashback 2012: never sat through the whole thing, but Angel Paints... 20ish? easily. Macross Plus: 10 Macross 7: 2 Macross Zero: 5 Macross F: 10-15 whew.. that's a lot of hours'o macross.
  15. Oh, I agree... I'm just saying... there's a bunch of folk out there who spend a lot of time thinking about stuff like this and they don't like spielberg.
  16. well, a lot of the more conservative christian folk didn't take kindly to ET since it parallels the jesus story... lost son, teaches people to be nice, gets a band of followers, persecuted by the establishment, able to heal and do "miracles", dies, comes back to life, leaves but tells people that he'll come back.... And a lot of the more militant Jewish folk and the segment of christian who are pre-israel... were pretty pissed about Munich, and spielberg's portrayl of the terrorists. Spielberg in general, gets a lot of flak from older, conservative folk. He's made comments that Castro was the smartest man he ever met and such... such talk doesn't go over well with some people.
  17. ah, no wonder krusty's work at yamato was suffering.
  18. 'sides, spielberg already pissed off the christians with his jesus redo (ET). I don't think lucas/spielberg would lose much sleep if they further alienated religious conservatives.
  19. haha, shatner, you vain vain man!
  20. yup, but you need to also think about how they shot the film. Take the sound of music, they went so heavy on hazing for close up shots with julie andrews, that HD or no HD, those scenes will always look like hazy and smeary.
  21. Well golly, bandai sure did so much for the license back in the day, let's get a big ol heaping spoonfull of more 1/100 scale models and dumbed down, kiddiefied toys! Woohoo, yay bandai!
  22. how sad for you that going to ireland elicits a "yay" response and not the much more rational, "oh crap". kidding kidding, never been to ireland, but the missus tells me it's quite lovely there.
  23. okay, a perfect shot in 35mm is supposed to have between 10-20 million pixels. HD has a little over 2 million pixels (1920 x 1080) on screen at any given time. So, as long as the film stock is still in good condition, there werent too many in camera effects done at the time and the studio is willing to invest the time and resources to restore and master, a movie shot on high quality film can be turned into HD content.
  24. I'll agree in general with your post, but indy has always been a pretty america-centric character. I wouldn't characterize him as a flag waving jingoist, since the movies do take some rather pointed swipes at government and beauracracy...
