3 teams seems very normal to me. You have the regular guys, the C team which is usually an overseas farm and then the A team for important episodes. Naruto and Bleach definitely follow that model.

yes, they yellow. the 1/60 vf-1 yellowed rapidly and sometimes for no apparant reason. the 1/48s seem to be more resistent. Yellowing happens as the pigments in the plastic breakdown, either from exposure to harsh light, heat, chemicals or oxidation. there's some talk of using industrial grade plastic conditioners to protect the plastic, but once yellowing occurs the only way to get rid of it is to recondition the surface... by manually removing the offending layers. If the plastic is of high quality, you could always encase the toy in a UV shielded, temperature and humidity controlled container filled with an inert gas.... but for most peope i'd say, keep out of direct sunlight or away from flourescent or metal halide lighting, store in a cool dry place and wash your hands before handling, or better yet, wear gloves.

you're mad... The animation in episode 4 was pretty good. Look at the level of detail in Sheryl or Nanase's hair and compare that to ep 6, they are WORLDS apart. Look at how the characters move.. just for instance, after sheryl trips alto, look at the little sidestep she does to step in behind him, the manilla team could not have pulled off that level of character animation. You're looking at the style, which if you don't like is fine, and saying that the quality is bad and that's just false. Episode 6 had less detail, less character animation and dropped frames, episode 4 had none of that.

I think a lot of people are confusing style with quality, at least as far as episode 4 goes. Episode 4 had a LOT of character movement but the style was loose and at times, almost sketchy. There have been other shows which used this method when animating lots of movment, most recent would be naruto (naruto versus sasuke at the end of the 1st part of show comes to mind) but also in Escaflowne.. particularly in the Movie when Van is fighting the other armor in the middle of the city. I agree that episode 6 was pretty bad. The animators had a hard time drawing people in profile or even in 3/4 view and anything but the simplist of character animation was either botched or rushed with several frames of movement abruptly left out.

the DYRL style valks had the paddles and the TV style had round exhausts. Pg 41 of the Design Works shows the vf-1s/strike (DYRL) and it clearly shows the paddles/bar exhausts.

I was hooked when I got a "jetfire" from my parents. I really wanted actual Macross toys but we weren't well off enough for my parents to buy me 50-80 dollar toys on a whim. I didn't really start collecting until 1999 or so when I got a yammie 1/72 yf-19.

To chime in on the Tobi request... posting screen shots of other anime was just a natural evolution of the discussion that wolfx. me and others were having. The central argument was that MF's animation quality was subpar compared to other current anime. Some of us disagreed and cited shows that we felt had similar animation problems. Some people said that we were wrong and then screenshots of MF were posted up to prove their point. Why wouldn't that result in a our own screenshots? Anyways, the level of rhetoric hasn't increased or decreased, imo, since the beginning of this arguement way back in episode 4. Wolfx and I have been saying the same thing to each other now for a while. I fully agree that it is a DEAD HORSE and that it's time to move on but I disagree that it's becoming heated or any more personal since the beginning.

lol. yeah, the biggest economy in the world is going to collapse because the united states is in the mildest recession in the past 50 years. give me a break. Japan has been in a recession for nearly 20 years and still doing fine. Economic re-adjustments are normal and cyclical. Just like the the US economy corrected itself in 2000 and just like the east asian economies corrected themselves. Countries like South Korea and Taiwan experienced a much more widespread economic downturn in the early 2000s and now they're just fine.
