  1. schrodinger's valkyrie?
  2. It's not the finish, we're talking about the DESIGN, the gappy, ill-fitting, turtle head, giant hinges, what the hell is with those michael jackson ankles, DESIGN that looks like a 60$ toy. The very fact that we're looking at the publicity shots and we can't tell if it's miss-transformed or not is a testament to what we're talking about. If we were just talking about the paint job and the tampo printing? A+, it does have a high end finish.
  3. You too? Jeebus, I thought I was the only one! Luckily my PG Strike Gundam lurched into sentience and threw himself between the exploding backpack and me, saving me and my baby son from the explosion. Sadly, poor Strikey didn't survive but now I understand why Bandai insists on Diecast... to protect their customers from the evils of exploding yamato plastic. Poor poor Strikey.
  4. Yeah, it does look like it should sit flush... so my last hope against hopes... there's two modes for the legs, one mode makes it sit flush in fighter mode and the other mode, the one displayed, you have to click the legs down in order to get the landing gear to work properly, given their stubby stature. Respectfully, I disagree. I don't know why it always seems to come down to brand B versus brand Y, I'm sure that thread about whether we thought Bandai taking over the license was a good idea or not doesn't help, but myself and others are disappointed in the DX sculpt because of the sculpt, and not because it's from Bandai or anyone else. Trust me, if Yamato turned this out, I wouldn't even consider it... because something with that many design compromises (not even one nice mode for me to hang my hat on) AND with yamato's sketchy QC??? NO WAY, NO HOW.
  5. It's just too bad it's even an issue since brand B has shown repeatedly they're capable of making a very accurate representation as well, well, at least when they bring their 'A' game.
  6. I'm sure if I had a new A8, I'd blow up if I was more than 75 ft away from it... the movies are horrible but i had a good time at the last two. I particularly liked it when he jumps and flips the car to scrape the bomb off the belly with the hook off of a crane.
  7. nice! looking forward to the next game.
  8. bp8 on the 1/48 maybe fragile but it looks like it was designed in such a way where fragility is an issue. The shoulder on the 1/60 v.2 looks like it might just be a manufacturing issue. I agree that the 1/60 v.2 is far more posable especially with FAST packs on, the 1/48 has some severe balance issues once the armor packs are attached.
  9. maybe they just didn't want to show the 616 version of fury?
  10. I'm not just jumping in this thread to dis the DX though, I don't even post in this thread on a regular basis, I come in for a spell every few weeks and pop in when some new pics get posted. And this all started when I posted a page or two back that the DX is a good toy, just not a good representation of a vf-25, and shin and I have been going back and forth over that one statement, what's so wrong with that? honestly, is it any worse or any different from any of the other threads on this site? We have threads DEVOTED to ripping on various things.
  11. Hurin tried his "all-loving" macross site and the only time that got traffic was when this site was down. Sorry Hurin, but you know it's true... we love our bitching.
  12. if you don't like it, you can't participate? Nice. Imagine if we applied that rule to the various yamato threads? haha... man, this site would be a ghost town.
  13. If I make a model of a ferrari and I decide that it should look more like a pick up truck, that doesn't make it a good ferrari, does it? I can like it, I can like it more than an actual ferrari but it's still a poor representation of a ferrari. That's not subjective, that's measurable and quantifiable. And again... the DX legs hang in fighter mode and don't sit flush with the body and the legs have gaps all over the place and the hinges are exposed... yes, I think that's far more noticeable and distracting compared to the arms hanging low on the 1/48.
  14. Yeah.. I'm not keen on them using books to fill in the story gaps either... especially since I'm not impressed by the quality of the books.
  15. Favreau and downey are signed for 2 more iron man flicks and an Avengers movie! http://www.darkhorizons.com/news08/081029i.php
  16. Again, missing the point. The toy of something is supposed to "look like" the thing it's supposed to be. The DX messes up all the proportions and gets quite a few things FLAT OUT WRONG. The hips and shoulders are just wrong. The Ozma type head is just wrong. The leg placement in fighter mode is wrong. The ankle extensions are wrong. These aren't subjective, but measurable and quantifiable. The design puts them in one place at one size and the DX does something entirely different. You can like the changes, you can like the toy, that's subjective. but it's not a good vf-25. I find it hilarious that you rail against the 1/48 so vehemently for the design compromises made and yet the DX makes all the same changes, wide shoulders, long monkey arms, thick legs, and oh so much more.
  17. No, I get that design changes probably had to be made for the material choices, I brought up the same point several pages back actually. But I think that poor choices in WHERE to place the metal resulted in a lot of the bulking up. It's an okay toy. It's a great "transforming toy" it's just a bad rendition of a vf-25.
  18. No... the fact that it only resembles the actual design of the VF-25 isn't subjective. Line the two up and there's changes in every mode and the toy completely misses the spirit of the valk which is its sleekness. The model manages to capture the look and feel of the design really well, so obviously the design IS possible to translate. What's subjective is whether you LIKE the design, and I get it's not everyone's cup of tea. It's not my favorite valk design, but if I'm going to dish out money for a toy of it... I want it to look like it. It's like making a toy of the Nolan batmobile and turning it into a sports car... it can look good, it may even look better than the tumbler, but it's not the tumbler.
  19. It's not an ugly toy but it is an ugly representation of the vf-25.
  20. The both have their own faults. The 1/48 has the problems that shin listed, however the 1/60 v.2 head placement in battroid is just wrong. Also, the back pack lock is a visible eyesore in gerwalk and the the fuselage antenna rubs against the tail fins in battroid/gerwalk... especially if you attempt to use the back pack latch or if the FAST packs are attached. The 1/60 also has big unsightly holes on the back of the calves and on the underside of the nose cone. The paint on the shoulder has a tendency to chip as well.
  21. what about the head not dipping down in fighter mode?
  22. in my delirious fanboy fervor I never considered that Bones could possibly not do the sequel.
  23. remember the green monster from FF7? Not difficult, once you knew how to stack your little magic orbs, but it still took hours.
  24. Well, like I said, every bioware game I've played had ridiculously easy end games because of balance issues... and unlike FF and Warcraft and Warhammer, KOTOR IS an RPG, as is every game bioware has made and they all have the same issue... balance issues. so I don't think I'm out of line here being concerned about end of game play. And while the FF MMO is not similar to the FF RPGs, ridiculously difficult and long boss battles are in both.
  25. I think it looks great, can't wait!
