  1. So far so good. I think if the hinge had more of a sheering motion there would be problems but as the movement is limited to open and close (for the most part) there doesn't seem to be any issue. Plus it's braced and glued up against the side of the hinge wall so it's not like the metal is taking all of the stress by itself. I think I would look for a similarly thin stainless steel if I were going to do it again though, just to be safe.
  2. Sure, I didn't think to take pictures as I was doing it, and it's not the cleanest work ever. The arrow points to where I cut into the wall so I could anchor the metal and I used guerrilla glue to glue it up against the side of the wall. I also had to file the other side of the hinge to let it close smoothly. The metal I used: "Create with Metal" from K&S engineering Tin Sheet Stock No. 254, .008 x 4 x 10" The metal is soft enough to cut with hand tools.
  3. This is what I did, I got some thin tin (.008) and made a brace for the inside of the hinge. I cut slit into the side of the wall so that the metal brace was physically braced against something and glued it in place. I used a nail to punch a hole for the pin and now the metal takes the stress instead of the plastic.
  4. You need an HDMI cable to do 1080p but HDMI cables are available from monoprice or amazon... you can get a good (well built) one for around 10 bucks. No need to get the fancy PS3 branded cable or a big brand name cable.
  5. yup. and the rocket launchers being stapled on to every flat surface they could find.
  6. oh, pie guy is part of this project? awesome.
  7. with that silly wing (?) hanging off it's back it looks like it would fall over even without the recoil. And if you're going to put skirt armor on the thighs, why leave the actual hip joint exposed? I'm impressed by the effort and scope of this project but these designs are pretty silly. Some decent ideas and base designs ruined by some silly accessories being tacked on.
  8. Yeah but when you rotate your arm, the clavicle joint moves in addition to the shoulder, not instead of the shoulder, which is how they posed the arm. I'm sure the arm can be posed correctly (bandai is awesome for their posability) but it just look silly as hell.
  9. having the whole arm pivot at the what is essentially the clavicle instead of at the shoulder is just silly.
  10. the 1/48 is a freaking tank compared to everything yamato has done since.
  11. yup. If you use it, be exact with amounts since if you're off the epoxy won't be hard it will just be oily and gummy and then it you'll need to do it over and clean the parts you want to epoxy.
  12. I did the epoxy thing. It works for a while but the hinge isn't the same and it juts out a little bit causing it to catch on the little stop bracket. Eventually it will fail again due to the stress from being pulled on and from the stress of hitting and catching while it's being swung up and down. You can try filing down the outside of the hinge so that it has a smooth movement and doesn't catch as much, or you can do what I do and fashion a metal brace for the inside of the hinge.
  13. The idea of such a large animal stomping it's way through swamps... obviously thought of by people who have never actually been in a swamp. Those suckers would have sunk into the silt and never been able to free themselves from the vacuum created.
  14. Oh! Well if the japanese like it, i must too!
  15. there's enough people having issues with the 1S, why bother with it when the hikaru 1S will be out soon? And besides, the inevitable re-issue will resolve the issue as well.
  16. meh, the wings on my yf-19s are just fine. Just transform them correctly and you wont stress that joint. As for the VF-0s... sucker.
  17. Finally got around to finishing Real Drive... meh. can't say I particularly recommend it.
  18. yeah, i'd like to know. Maybe nissan pulled a Honda and didn't want guns to be associated with them?
  19. I have a hard time buying that the DX is based off that sketch that was posted. The intakes are completely different between the sketch, the DX and the CG and the crotch is even smaller on the sketch than in the CG, and the legs don't have the long ankle extensions and not to mention the gun is very different. The sketch gun looks more like the original VF-1 gunpod while the VF-25 gunpod is longer and the telescoping extension part happens before the grip and not behind it. It just makes far more sense that the diecast content in the DX forced Bandai to bulk up the design in order to keep the surrounding plastic to be thick and strong enough to support the weight.
  20. nothing wrong with plastic... as long as it's the RIGHT plastic.
  21. Beats me, I didn't even know that there was an official Alternity story. But the armor detailing on alternity megs shows a pretty clear samurai influence, imo.
  22. yup.
  23. I like the swords, fits the samurai motif better.
  24. happy to hear all the good reports. In the meantime, my 1/60 ver 2.0 vf-1s shoulder completely failed. The epoxy only held for so long. I requested a replacement from overdrive but in the meantime, I got some think aluminum sheet metal from my local hobby store, cut out a thin strip and used it as a brace. Basically, I made a C clip for the inside of that hinge and glued it in place so that the top of the "C" sits over the top of the hinge and cut a groove for the bottom part of the "C" to grasp onto. That way, when I pull on the arm the stress is supported by the metal brace. Had to sand down a little of the matching part of the hinge to account for the extra width.
