  1. Almost, it was a factory in the Philippines... I mean, come on, does "Marcos" sound like a chinese name to you? It's obviously a Filipino name.
  2. the idea was subversive. They would take stuff that their children could already identify and use them to teach korean culture, as was the case with taekwon V. It's not that surprising, many poor countries use similar tactics, the Palestinians have their own knock off Mickey Mouse for instance. In fact the idea is very old, many religious stories were started in this way, the story of Gilgamesh becomes the story of Noah and the Ark, for instance. Same with the adoption of buddhism by various asian cultures, they changed it fit their own needs from the original Indian form. The point, if you need it spelled out for you, is that poor impoverished people who are on the verge of having their identities wiped out will use whatever means available to them in order to save themselves. In the case of Korea their wealth and intellectual and cultural elite had either fled or were subsumed by Imperial Japan and than their country was again stolen by the UN and used as buffer between the Soviet Union, USA and China and then whatever was left was ravaged by one of the most costliest wars of the 20th century. They were then left to US backed military dictatorships who would rather machine gun down students then give them opportunities. So yes, in such a situation the Koreans did whatever they could to, in their minds, protect their culture and even their economy. Was it the right decision, who knows? However, I'm glad it's such a source of amusement to you, at least some good came of it. and yes mods, this is the last I'll speak of this.
  3. here's the rundown on all things Korean in the 80's that's a Japanese rip off. Yes, they're rip offs. For those of you who care to know more, Korea in the 80's wasn't a stable country and had been led by a series of brutal military dictators ever since the cessation of hostilities between North and South Korea. During this time many Korean children were watching Japanese programming and becoming enthralled by it. Many older Koreans saw this as a sort of cultural attack on their kids... this older generation of Koreans had lived through and survived the occupation of Korea by Japan and part of this was the attempted elimination of the Korean language and culture by the occupying Japanese and so they were somewhat sensitive on that subject. And so various copy cat cartoons were created that either out right stole the look of Japanese anime or was at best, heavily influenced by. These shows were universally crudely produced and featured some sort of Korean twist... like the taekwon do practicing Mazinger Z clone Robot Taekwon V. So there you go, some historical and cultural context for these rip off creations... not as humorous as "leave it to korea lol" but a little more nuanced and hopefully some of you will appreciate the rather difficult situation and context that birthed these rather sad bastardizations.
  4. good god man! If I still owned every single action figure/model/collectible in my 30 some years I don't think it would come close to what you have there.
  5. eugimon

    Latest custom.

I really love how the weathering really shows off the small molded in details of the GBP and nice photography work it really showcases the work!
  6. I like them, they're cute. My son is already showing interest in star wars and transformers and these look like a cute way to transition him off of his current diet of Little People and Geotrax.
  7. It was decent, the scene where that dude is getting his piercings pulled out was cringe worthy.
  8. also the 1/48 GBP armor came with anime correct crotch and 1/48 correct crotch.
  9. 14-25 bucks an hour??? That's crazy... man, I ran a whole department at an e-retailer for around that much and i was working 60-70 hours a week at the time... man was I underpaid.
  10. cool, payment sent.
  11. I'm down for some, do we just send the payments via paypal?
  12. eugimon

    Thunder Hammer

yeah, and is there a high res of it available?
  13. omg.. that's crazy, more so that he had a whole assembly line going.
  14. yeah... that makes it tough. Just post it so you're looking up at it, that way you won't see the midget fins.
  15. Yeah, I agree that the tailfins are a big disappointment. It doesn't ruin fighter mode for me but I can see why it would be for you and others... it really breaks the illusion of a believable fighter mode. I'll probably end up keeping mine with the fast packs on as a result.
  16. "fail" is a little harsh, I think. I agree it's the weakest mode but at least everything lines up this time around the glove doesn't have that huge screw bolted on underneath. And it doesn't suffer from the over-sized canards yamato used on the 1/72 to hide that clumsy shoulder hinge.
  17. best of luck to you!
  18. Well, I did the same thing as you two months back, eventually between catching on the tab or being pulled on hard enough to be pulled up over the tab the epoxy will fail.
  19. be sure to file down the hinge since now a corner will pop out slightly more than the rest of the hinge and is more likely to catch and break off entirely as a result.
  20. I dun know if it's confirmed but it's probably the reason why the nose/canopy is a little more pudgy compared to the line art and the 1/72
  21. meh, the 1/60 vf-11 is a HUGE improvement over the 1/72. The 1/72 had major flaws in every mode, imo.
  22. Yeah, i really like that yellow one, they're all nice but if I had to get only 1, which is likely, I'd probably get the yellow one.
  23. there was a book where Luke "levitated" by walking on little force platforms so it's plausible he would eventually perfect the technique to where he could do that way up in the sky.
  24. w'oh! That fanpic of a blond Klan is t3h awesome!
  25. why? The forward bending knees serves a legitimate purpose. Not posing the arm correctly and just swinging the arm up at neck is silly. yeah... but they're impressed with everything. We hate everything, they love everything, our two sites hold the universe of fandom in balance.
