  1. Yeah, if there's going to be a complaint about Scotty plugging in a formula and then drastically upgrading transporters, which I think the movie explained pretty well (realizing it's space that's moving) then pretty much half of TNG suffers from far worse where the deflector dish was used to emit all forms of energy known to man and also served soft serve to the kids on Sundays.
  2. What? People standing around and talking about inverse polarizing tachyon beams for 44 minutes and then a 2 second clip of the entrprise emitting some beam isn't entertaining for you?
  3. fair enough. I really disagree on your characterizations though. Young Kirk's actions are pretty easily understood by anyone who's been a latch-key child. No dad, mom constantly off-world, step dad or who ever who cares more about his things than Kirk. He didn't destroy that vette for no reason, he took out his frustration on the 'thing' that was more important than him. And Spock was easily the most sympathetic character. A kid who feels like he's the only defender of his mom, his own father refusing to stand up for her. And I don't know how you can see he's a prick, he basically tells all of vulcan to go fly a kite because they insulted his mother and his earth heritage and then risks his life to save those people. And I loved the new engineering section. I find it much believable than the usual giant glowing dildo.
  4. wow, low viz roy looks awesome. Any idea when it's due?
  5. I'm fine if people don't like it... but to say things like, the ship is too big or the uniforms don't look right therefore it's not "real" star trek... it's hard to take those people seriously.
  6. Oh, I know... it's just that, the die hard trekkies are rallying around any little thing to say this new movie isn't "real" star trek, including that the enterprise is too big, blah blah blah. I wonder if it really helps them enjoy ST more to be so hyper critical of everything new. Hmm, I guess I could ask the same of some Macross fans.
  7. oh good, so the panic and gnashing of teeth over the size of the make believe space ship has come to an end?
  8. pass on both the yf-19 repaints... they just don't do anything for me. Maybe if it gets a low viz scheme.
  9. Well, I wanted a PG /160 vf-25... but I guess I can live with a 1/48 scale. Yet another reason to hold on to my 1/48 Vf-1...
  10. Garfield doesn't make sense at all.
  11. hahaha, awesome! I really liked that episode, now I like it more.
  12. that was fast! have you tried transforming it? how does the paint stand up? What about the little slide panels for GERWALK, did you paint those too?
  13. He didn't break spock, kirk exposed the fact that spock was emotionally compromised. As to whether he cheated or not, that was never answered. Is it a cheat to cheat a program that is designed to cheat? Besides... savior of Earth and the Federation and the Vulcan remnant carries a lot of weight...
  14. yeah, it was graduate as an officer in 4, captain in 8. Kirk was talking about graduating when he answered back, "I'll do it in 3" but considering how fraked up the galaxy was, klingon empire devastated, starfleet just lost a founding planet and lost a significant number of ships... it really isn't surprising Kirk would be given command. Maybe that he was given command of the flagship but again... having just saved Earth has to have some weight.
  15. It's the same thing, but not. CRT and plasma get "burn in" where the bits that make up the image actually get damaged from only producing one color for a duration of time and get stuck in that color. With LCD the individual cell can still change colors but at a slightly different color so you see a ghost of the original image. Really only an issue when you're displaying something with a static image, like a HUD type UI (diablo for instance) or if you're working with a program that has a lot of set fields, like Remedy. And yeah, 5 years ago, this crap was mostly resolved, ghosting was more of an issue in the pre-TFT days.
  16. I dunno, discovering the trap to destroy the starfleet fleet at vulcan, defeating the unstoppable Nero, rescuing his captain, saving the earth, and having the support of the former captain of the Enterprise and now admiral Pike? Besides, Starfleet just lost a handful of captains and their crews, maybe pickings were slim? Kirk already proved himself an able captain by performing well under his field commission, with all that he had just accomplished plus the support of admiral pike and the crew of the enterprise, why wouldn't he be given formal command?
  17. I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not. But the first master and commander book precede Yamato by 4 years. But besides that, Captain Kirk is easily a type of King David from the the Bible, young genius leader, untested and at odds with the dominant paradigm. In this movie particularly Kirk and Spock's relationship mirrors David and Jonathan's relationship. In the Biblical story, David is chosen over Jonathan (the rightful heir to the thrown) by Samuel the Prophet and Jonathan accepts David as the rightful ruler. Pretty closely matches the plot, Spock (Samuel) chooses Kirk (David) to command the Enterprise (Israel) over young/alt Spock (Jonathan) and then young/alt Spock eventually accepts the new paradigm even forging a friendship with Kirk. A story of a new and untested boat taking out a larger and feared opponent? How about Monitor versus Merrimack/Virginia? I mean, there are tons of stories out there about untested crews and their ships taking on more impressive foes. Battleship Yamato is hardly the first time that bit of drama was penned. Another example, Themistocles commanding a small and new Athenian navy versus the Persians that were 5x in number during the battle of Artemisium. The relationship between Kirk, Spock and bones has already been shown to be a pretty obvious allegory of the Freudian concepts of the id, ego and super-ego.
  18. Not bad, maybe if you could get the light to hit the visor a little more or pick it up with PS. I have to say, I really dig the lighting (or lack of) in your shots!
  19. canceled my pre-order with HLJ as well. I like that over-drive lets you add on to open orders and my experience with them when ordering replacement parts was so much smoother and cheaper than with HLJ.
  20. nice weathering! really brings it to life.
  21. That's not really a plot hole, it's more of deus ex machina. Actually, it's exactly a deus ex machina.
  22. so did LCD and plasma when they first came out. It takes time for tech to mature.
  23. slow rate of reproduction offset by extremely long lives.
  24. Meh, much of those shared plot points easily describes plot of the Master and Commander movie/book. Anime isn't exactly the most original story telling either.
