  1. So what is it? So, 12 man group, max calls out three numbers, so let's say you're right and numbers are now squad designators, with 3 man squads that means 9 fighters left to intercept leaving 3 fighters behind to guard the shuttle. So now he didn't even split his flight in half or as you say "left the majority to guard the shuttle" now he's sent off 2/3rds of his command leaving the shuttle even that more defenseless. So let's say that scenario is correct, it still shows Max to be somewhat short of glorious as a commander.
  2. The following is considered to be what is commonly known as a "joke" and is not intended for purposes other than "shits and giggles": Considering Hikaru was laid up in the hospital during the max/miryia encounter, we'll never know...! * *please not the inclusion of a "smiley face with tongue out" commonly used to denote mischievousness to further reinforce the notion of the "joke"
  3. I have an agenda? You took a joke and threw a hissy fit over it, called it a copout when it was pointed out to you by me it was a joke, and even after azreal told us to cut it out went back and edited your previous post at least 2 times just so you could keep going on about a JOKE and you're saying I have an agenda? How can you say I'm not watching it in motion. Watch the scene. The debris fall down diagonally across the screen, at about the same time a projectile of some sort flies TOWARDS the shuttle and in the next scene the shuttle gets tagged. How is that remotely the same thing as shuttle and debris occupying the same space? And which is it? Is it 8 valks or 12? How does the numbering work when three designators are called and 4 leave? Animation error works far better than in just this one episode they decided to change the entire designation system and change squads to numbers where each squad has a random number of fighters. This episode is fraught with animation errors, for example: When Max launches he has no missiles but later on he has missiles. Where did the missiles come from? At the end of the episode there's a kid next to miryia and he changes from shot to shot, different kid, different clothes but always a kid there. So yeah, when the show clearly designates a system where squads have names and individual fighters int he squad have number designators, I'm gonna go with that even if the animation shows something slightly different like 3 lasers on a 1a head If it is 10 valks versus (since by any math presumably at least 2 valks come back when the regroup order is given) 60, 6 on 1 is not that lopsided of fight by SDFM standards. It's actually harder to believe that it would take max and 9 other fighters 20 minutes to kill 30 pods... considering the end of that battle is hikaru showing up and taking out the other half in one giant salvo of missiles. The whole point of having wingmen is so that you can watch each other'back. Look at the intro to DYRL, Plus or Zero to see how wingmen cover each other and set each other up for easy kills, even selfish hotshot pilots like Isamu can track what's going on with the battle at large, not just their little dogfight. So yes, roy gets shot AFTER Max flies off on his own to dogfight by himself with Miryia, for so long that it becomes obvious to the bridge crew and get's called back. He could have called for help and taken out the enemy ace but in both SDFM and DYRL, he chooses to leave his wingmen and go after the kill on his own.
  4. Figured this was the right place to have this talk 1. look up the definition of a joke or a rhetorical statement. The point of what I posted was to have a little fun. 2. No, there are lots of planes but it's not clear that they're all escort planes, several of them have only one thruster. Individual valkyries are always called by number, squads are not called by number designations. So considering how cheaply SDFM was animated whenever there's a discrepancy between what's animated and the script, I'm going to go with a script or are you going to put up a spirited defense of the vf-1r now? 4. Watch the whole scene, there are shots going TOWARDS the shuttle which hit it and there are debris moving in a tangent trajectory which the shuttle never intercepts. If the debris were meant to be shown heading towards or interacting with the shuttle, why not animate it that way since there were other objects on screen at the same time that do? 5. No, it's not point blank. Just because a round can travel unimpeded by gravity and friction doesn't mean it necessarily has more accuracy. The phrase "point blank" or "spitting distance" implies situation where the target does not have a chance to dodge. The scene clearly shows max moving farther and farther away from the shuttle and then at the Distance is still distance and in the very screen shots you provide you can see how small and distant Max's 1j is compared to the shuttle. Oh and notice how he's not with any wingmen. Again. 6. You keep going over his kill count and I never disputed that max is good at shooting things. Please stop trying to "prove" an argument I never made. I was quite clearly making a humorous and rhetorical argument that "ace" is not necessarily the same thin as "good". Where 'good' is implied as the kind of pilot who keeps considers his team mates and mission objectives. In episode 18 Max similarly goes off on his own and leaves both Kakizaki and Roy alone, coincidentally Roy gets shot down from the sort of enemy fighters that a good wingman would have covered.
  5. omfg. Anyways, I don't think any conclusion can be drawn about the 1j based on what's shown in DYRL, looks like nothing more than a fan pleasing cameo.
  6. 1. you're way too strung up about this. Like I tried to hint and then explained EXPLICITLY I was riffing off of VFTF1's post. I wasn't trying to make a serious statement about max and this thread isn't even about max just about the vf-1j and what place it has in the show. 2. The order was to change course and evade. Max decides to split his forces and attack. 3. There were 6 valkyries in his squad, he sends off 4, 5, 6. That's half. 3a. When the delay team is ordered to regroup only units 5 and 6 are given orders, what happened to 4? Did he creamed out in space because Max didn't follow orders? 4. The pod debris don't fly "past" the shuttle at all. Look at the debris they pass well in front of the shuttle. 5. with no horizon and no atmospheric distortion LOS is greater in space than in atmosphere, so no, LOS is not "spitting distance" 6. Max isn't shown interacting with his squad, setting up kills or even protecting them. He's supposed to be their squad leader but other than when they're flying in formation he's never helps them out or directs them Again, Max is obviously a genius and his sheer skill get them through the situation My point is that he's not necessarily a "good" pilot in that he's more concerned with himself than his squadmates or objectives. This is hammered home in DYRL when he freaking abandons Hikaru to go dogfight on his own and then when abandons his post so he can become macronized and fly around with Miryia.
  7. Relax ChronoReverse, I was just having some fun off of VFTF1's rah-rah for Max so I thought I'd play up Hikaru a little. But if you wanna be angry about it: Max splits off his squadron without knowing the full situation then in the beginning of the main attack on the shuttle max transforms and flies away from the shuttle to go pursue targets and immediately the shuttle takes hits. Later there's a shot of max doing his thing and the shuttle is off in the distance without any of her escort fighters nearby. Yes, max is behind the shuttle but if they were really in a cloud of pods who was there to protect the shuttle from attacks coming from the other directions? Were they outnumbered, yes but Max still flew away from his target and left it undefended. That misa was protected by plot armor and survived isn't the point.
  8. That's the truth from a certain point of view.
  9. Max has his vf-1j while they're still in space. He shows it off in the episode where he flies escort for Misa on her way back to earth, is busy showing off, completely loses track of what he was doing (protecting the shuttle) and Hikaru has to come bail him out. Max, proving that an ace pilot doesn't always make for a good pilot.
  10. It's an animation mistake in Macross. It's an abomination in Robotech.
  11. 180 for the legioss, 250 for the tread. Maybe more. It's a small, saturated market for these guys.
  12. It's too bad then that it's the fighter mode on the vf-2ss that's kibble laden.
  13. Not about being a purist. I just like that Macross is one of the few mecha anime show that basis at least some of it's design on real world counterparts... and yamato has precious few new releases (not repaints but entirely new molds). So I'd just rather see them concentrate on the numerous designs that I prefer... that is the designs that mirror the real world more closely like the vf-17. For the record, I wouldn't be keen on the fire valkyrie vf-19 or the other soundforce valks for the same reason.
  14. awesome! real world inspired bombs, missiles, gunpods!
  15. I tried but it was tricky enough getting everything to balance and hold that pose long enough as it was. I'm actually okay with the vf-2ss design. I don't think it fits in the established macross aesthetic but as a silly faux futuristic space ship... I've seen worse, though the 4 intakes on a "space optimized" fighter is rather silly.
  16. The alpha has an elaborate transformation? The trickiest part about the design is all the pull out joints... otherwise it's practically a transformer jet. Valks like the sv-51, yf-19 and yf-21 are far more intricate than the alpha.
  17. I present to you, the yf-2ss
  18. Only the first 1s really had problems, a few reports on the 1a hikaru but since then it's been pretty free and clear. Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. There's a preventive fix you can do on the earlier knurled pins you can do if it worries you.
  19. I voted for yamato to do it. I figure Bandai would just tear off another decent but seriously compromised version and we already have something like that.
  20. Who? Is this some minor villain? I can only recall one villain who had a sister but she liked Stig, not yellow and his ride looked like this
  21. Really? You think it looks like a bipedal crab?
  22. but but, the VF-2ss SAP folds down to cover the head when it fires it's rail gun! That's KEWL... the rail gun is so strong it needs to protect the valkyrie's head from the sheer awesomeness! Wait, what do you mean nothing like that happens in fighter or GERWALK mode?
  23. If two intakes are good, 4 are even better! And more horizontal fins! Let's stick one on the bottom! What is it for? Who cares! It's KEWL!
  24. It's true, Hikaru scored Misa with his convertible VF-1s.
