Hey like or dislike whatever suits your fancy, just don't turn this into a discussion on what's "wrong" with other people.

wow, that's a nice mod.

Bandai 1/72 Scale Macross Frontier Model Kit Thread Ver.3
eugimon replied to azrael's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
looks halfway decent in fighter but with those new tack on wings just hanging off the back it just accentuates what I didn't like about the vf-25 design to begin with. I really don't care for the way those two cannons are designed or mounted though. easy pass for me. -

woohoo! Another Nikon shooter! Welcome to the club. I have the D90, love it. I love me my cannon fodders! -
Obviously you've never seen The Condemned

Well, I don't have really expensive man/boy hobbies like cars or guns or motorcycles so in contrast a hundred bucks here and there seems cheap. And I explained to my wife this way, "Honey, no cop is ever gonna knock on the door and tell you I was in a horrible valkyrie related accident."
-
they're great. lots of detail, good posability considering the design. Some smart use of metal. Tampo printing is lacking though compared to the ver 2 1/60 vf-1
-
oh wait... nope, I guess it's not "in the mail right now".

waiting for 2 packages, 1 from bigkid for the VT-1 and from overdrive VE-1 DX vf-25 ozma armored vf-1s low voz
-
the shuttles are significantly bigger than puddle jumpers just by going by the size of the cockpit alone.
-
Yeah, I'm comparing it to the ver 2. 1/60 vf-1... (In price) I guess I should have been more clear.

http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=30963 and last year with the yf-19 http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...82&hl=yf-19 the best part

well, there's a huge bulge on the back, the wing roots don't fit against the legs leaving a big hole where the calf/knee and wing root meet, the wing root and the intakes don't line up, the wing root is awfully fat and doesn't blend into the wing at all and the legs sit too low and bandai tried to fudge it by making the shoulder pads sit way too high... so yeah, I think it looks pretty awful. I'm digging the other modes though. I'd get one if they weren't so expensive... they cost as much as a yammie v2 1/60 and I'd honestly rather get one of those for the money. edit: oh, and the intakes and main body don't line up, notice the yellow accent is showing. Basically it look like it has all the fit issues of the yamato 1/60 yf-19 but it also introduces a whole mess of new sculpt related issues too.
-
It's okay, landing gear only good for fighter mode and fighter mode is too hideous to display anyways, so no harm.
-
it was decent, had a good time.

true, firefly isn't the first show to use that documentary feel but it is one of the first mainstream space opera show to use it. And I agree, if anything it was more "Lost in Space" (but blown up and made BIG) than BSG. The surface comparison to Voyager is there as well but the character motivations are so different. Voyager got lost by a sort of cosmic accident while the Universe guys got lost because of arrogance and hubris... and I really like that the heroes are portrayed more as real people instead of the usual idealized hero cookie cutter types that Stargate is usually populated by.
-
Apologies then, when you said "I liked it. I enjoy the way it's shot, it just oozes atmosphere. Because of the gritty set design I can understand people referencing BSG (and the knee-jerk reaction to compare anything to anything popular) but I honestly didn't see it." it sounded like you were talking about the look and feel of the show which borrows pretty liberally from BSG (which borrowed liberally from Firefly).
-
Excuse me, it's not "knee jerk". There's a pretty huge stylistic shift between Universe and SG-1 and Atlantis. The two previous shows had that clean, dolly and static camera look with lots of off screen set lighting. Universe, like BSG and Firefly has tons of handheld and steadycam shots and the lighting, for the most part, comes from in camera light sources. And here: http://www.tvsquad.com/2009/09/29/stargate...-an-early-look/ The article even says the producers were influenced by BSG (as well as Lost). and here: http://www.whedon.info/Firefly-Tv-Series-to-influence.html Where the producers say they were trying to capture the "Firefly" look which was later adopted by BSG which the producers of that show also admit.
-
I like that it has one big break from the other SG shows and from ST and BSG... there's really no clear leader. Even the civilians aren't rallying around any single flag. I wonder how long they'll keep the idea of infighting factions alive.
-
true, their thrown against the wall stress handling is conspicuously poor. Graham, can you tell them to work on that?
