  1. It is solo friendly, very similar to Guild Wars but the game automatically gives you groups when you enter into an instance. The thing is, I have yet to play a mission where players were actually buffing each other or tanking, etc. Everyone just flies in, concentrates fire on the smallest ship, blows them to hell or dies, which happens with startling ease. This happens a lot, especially in the opening salvo as there's no way to lure away a single enemy ship and the designers tend to make a mob just a giant floating ball of ships and since there can be like 5-10 ships in a mob and 4 ships in your party and they ALL target the lead ship, well, they blow through your shields and kill you in the opening salvo. Not a big deal since you respawn right away and with the frequency of respawn points it's almost like dying and respawning is supposed to be a tactic rather than a penalty.
  2. I actually think a movie like The Thing offers a lot for modern audiences, especially with all the mistrust of science out there
  3. Wasn't talking about you, I was referring to some of the more vocal and rhetoric filled posts. I certainly understand not wanting to see a needless prequel made but I think the argument can be made without elevating The Thing to something it clearly is not.
  4. Alien and Bladerunner deal with similar ideas as does the 1970's Wickerman... all three, vastly superior movies to The Thing. And to be fair, the original story, "who goes there?", widely regarded as one of the best sci-fi short stories ever written, has to get at least some of the credit for the depth of The Thing.
  5. You don't find it at all disingenuous that people are complaining that hollywood has run out of ideas about a prequel to a movie that was itself a remake of an adaptation?
  6. Sure... I guess, compared to Children of the Corn it's a masterpiece. But it still deals with the subtext in a ham fisted way.
  7. sure, but it had all the issues Garth has with the character descriptions.. stereotyped 2D characters. I realized the movie is a cult classic and people love it, but to bitch and moan that someone is making a prequel to a remake of a movie that was an adaptation of a short story... meh. And for all you Ron Moore "raped my childhood, shot my robot dog-monkey" folk, you can relax, his script was rewritten anyways.
  8. riiight, because the Thing was such a deep and philosophical movie to begin with...
  9. I'm not that impressed so far. Maybe it's just because I don't know anyone else playing but so far I haven't really seen why this game needs to be an MMO to begin with.
  10. anyone else trying out the star trek online beta?
  11. you can tell cuz it has '21' written on the side of it's face.
  12. sweet, can't wait to get my vf-22.
  13. I thought the ending was great. Unlike everyone else who discovered the power of the spiral, Simon gives it up. It's a pretty bold political statement.
  14. like I said, they're incompetent.
  15. errr... doesn't yamato have their own macross geek guy?
  16. I'm not saying it won't happen or can't happen, but I've had roy vf-1s since launch day and the other shoulder is going strong.
  17. yeah, she guest stars in season 2. She was also in Angel which was cancelled despite relatively strong ratings.
  18. maybe, but I still pose my roy 1s all the time and it still hasn't cracked, neither have any of my other knurled pin vf-1's.
  19. I don't know about that. The other shoulder on my vf-1s roy is fine.
  20. how about a vf1Strike in armor?
  21. it's because it's impossible. Like mixing an acid with a base, it'll just cause the vf-1s to foam up until nothing is left. It's a pretty serious design flaw imo.
  22. Nope, an Indian Buddhist monk traveled to a shaolin temple and "created" it there using traditional indian martial arts. Besides, despite the goju school emblem on daniel-san's gi, I wouldn't call what he was doing "karate" either.
