LOL! Keith has a habit of just asserting his opinion as an immutable fact. I've seen him doing it for as long as I can remember. But I've never really run afoul of him before because I couldn't give two sh**s about M7. But, for fun, I ran a search on "debate" and "Keith". . . hoping to find him saying: "This is not a topic for debate" about fifty times. It turned up a lot of gems. But this one is my favorite. This is from the man himself: Emphasis mine.

Well, I decided to give Star Wars Galaxies another go now that they've added starfighters and space combat to it. Over the last couple days, I've taken a few screenshots I thought were either cool looking, or semi-amusing. . . You'd think the orange flightsuit would be a dead giveaway. You don't need to see my identification. . . and would you stop melting into the hood of my landspeeder? Screw the dark side of the force! The devil made me do it! Anyone else playing SWG? If so, which server? H

Here it is. It's in the first combat scene (chapter 5) On the Region 2 DVD it's at 8:36-ish Shave about 30 seconds off of that for the fx bootleg. Finally, here's a screencap

The funny part is that the page links on your local copies still work. The thread is still visible on the robotech.com forums here. Do you have that bigger!?! I need a new wallpaper! H

Uh, I've given you Kawamori's own words as recorded on the Animeigo DVDs. You don't want to address those. But they "back up" what we're saying. Further, I've asked you to reconcile how your view conflicts with how most people view and enjoy poetry. Again, you fail to address this. Which show are we talking about now? SDF Macross or Macross 7? You claimed that all of Macross follows your view (and that this is so blindingly obvious that we dare not question it). I've seen SDF Macross more than once. And I still disagree with you. So, apparently, just "watching the show" isn't quite enough to brainwash me around to your point of view. Well, go figure. Claiming your'e wrong doesn't make you wrong. But, ironically, you claiming you're simply right doesn't make you so either. Actually, I had no idea that you were getting your views on music directly from Macross 7. I figured it had influenced you. But, now, I'm reading that your view of emotion coming from the singer only is actually something directly espoused by M7. All, I can say is: Wow. Dude, it's a show. And Kawamori is now a tree-hugging hippy. Get some perspective before buying into an anime director's views on music so whole-heartedly. Again, you can believe what you want. But don't go around saying that your view is so blindingly obvious that nobody can/should disagree with you. And please don't simply dismiss inconvenient rebuttals and contrary evidence. Doing so only makes you look even more out-of-touch with reality. H P.S. BTW, the only reason I'm feeling compelled to keep this going is that you dismissed what I wrote as being "not backed up". . . if you want to ignore it, then ignore it. But don't dismiss it so condescendingly.

Darn it! I found another one. Fixed now. I think it's all good now. I watched the 2nd half of the movie and everything was perfect except one. That one is now fixed. H

Returned to CN, "The Clone Wars" has, hmmm.
Hurin replied to mechaninac's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I forced my girlfriend to watch Ep I and II in preparation for III. I had not seen Episode I in a long time. Man, it was worse than I remembered. But I found I had actually been a bit too hard on Ep II. My girlfriend said that she expected much worse from Ep II after hearing me rant about Lucas and having already seen the OT (and enjoying it). But she could not stand the kid and Jar Jar in Ep I. . . and I didn't even have to help her come to that opinion. Truthfully, while I have a newfound respect for II. . . Ep I sucks so much worse than even I had remembered. And that's saying something. H -
Macross World + Duke Togo = Classy.

There was one song lyric that wasn't properly showing at the top of the screen (rather than the bottom). That's now fixed and the time-stamp at the top of this thread is updated. H

In my humble opinion, There is no equivalent to the 1/48. As far as popularity goes: A small minority still stand by the 1/60s or the old Bandai 1/55s. But, really, I think many of them are emotionally attached to them via nostalgia, or they are using other criterea to judge than most would use (putting price before coolness!). I don't think even those who prefer the 1/60s could objectively assert that the 1/48 isn't a superior toy where perfect transformation and sculpt are concerned. Yes, they could assert durabilty or nit-pick one small portion of the 1/48 sculpt. But, on the whole, the vast majority recognize the 1/48 as being the ultimate valkryie toy/replica. And, in this case, I think the majority is right. I had just started getting 1/60s and 1/55s when I got my first 1/48. I sold all the others (except one 1/60). I'd get the 1/48s first. I can't imagine someone having a 1/48 first and then saying: "Oh wait, I need all those smaller, less-cool looking ones now!" Though, I'm sure it's happened. With luck, you'll get a few 1/48s and that will sate your VF-1 hunger. Your wallet will thank you! H

Just so others reading aren't confused: The files provided in this thread won't work with the fx release of this DVD. He's referring to this thread where I provided the means to do this for the fx DVD. This version does differ with the one I did for the FX version in the following ways: I changed a couple of lines subtely to make them sound more natural or more clear. I changed one line a bit more signifigantly so that it would be more clear (though still not toally!) why Bodolza suddenly fires on the Macross as well as the Meltrandi when he had just concluded a peace treaty with the Macross. Each and every freakin' line of dialogue has been nudged (by hand) +/- 100ms to 500ms. This should make the subtitles a bit more "crisp" and snappy than the ones I did for the fx DVD. This process probably took about 30 hours! Thank you! But I can't take all the credit. Ali Sama and Mechamaniac provided quite a good script a long time ago for use with external subtitle players on a computer. It provided the basis for the vast majority of the translations. I also picked and chose from a few other scripts I found online. Although, by now, I've mangled that script so much (especially the timings) that it's probably unrecognizable to them! H

I added two links to the body of the review. First, this link to a good overview of the DVD's contents. Second, this link to AnimeonDVD.com where we try (and largely succeed) to get to the bottom of the interlacing issues. H

Changed the menu so that the text wasn't so spidery. H

What I can't figure out is this: If all emotion comes from the artist singing rather than from the words themselves and/or the listener instilling those words with meaning. . . what's the deal with poetry?!? An example: And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange a walk-on part in the war for a lead-role in a cage? Why do these words move me? Even when I read them in my own voice rather than the voice of Pink Floyd? Song is just poetry set to music and melody. . . but if (as Keith asserts) emotion is only present in it because of the singer. . . what is the point of poetry? I don't think Keith can answer that. But, of course, he's so self-evidently right that he doesn't have to! H

I think there's only one way to get this topic locked. Unleash the power of Der Hasselhoff. . .

Working on that as we speak. H

Have the official 2016 release of the Blu-Ray? These subtitles are available for that release here. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- THE DVD YOU CREATE USING THIS PROCESS WILL HAVE FULL, UNTOUCHED VIDEO/AUDIO QUALITY AND WILL BE REGION-FREE. 5/18/2005 Update: Fixed oversight where fade-in menu transition showed option on main menu that does not actually exist! Now removed. Changed Hikaru to 2nd Lieutenant (from Ensign) in beginning. Changed it so that Minmay refers to him simply as Lieutenant instead of "Mr. Ensign." Changed all references to Roy Focker's rank to "Major" (instead of Commander). Changed all references to Misa's rank (prior to return from earth) to Captain. Changed all references to Misa's rank (after return to Macross) to Major. Changed Max's rank to "Captain" during period surrounding the Milia vs Max battle. Changed Admiral "Gloval" to "Global". . . because this is Macross, dammit. This upgrade grafts high-quality and "natural-sounding" subtitles to your official Bandai/Emotion Region 2 DVD release of Macross: Do you Remember Love. Best of all, there is no image quality loss. The video and audio streams are untouched. FINALLY: YOUR OUTPUT FROM THIS PROJECT WILL BE REGION-FREE. Please Note: You must already own the Bandai/Emotion DYRL DVD to be able to do this. There's nothing wrong going on here. THE FILES PROVIDED HERE WILL ONLY WORK WITH THE BANDAI/EMOTION REGION 2 DVD. If you have another release of the DVD, please check here. (These look better on your televsion/computer. JPEG compression is visible in these web-ready images) The outer black area will not be visible on a television due to overscan (border of your television obscuring the screen). Things You Will Need To Generate the New DVD files A copy of the Bandai/Emotion "Perfect Edition" of DYRL. You can buy this at CD Japan among other places. Yes, that price is pretty standard for official Japanese DVDs. This ZIP file. This file must be extracted to a very specific place (see instructions below). It contains the substream file, a DVD-Lab Pro project file, etc. A program called DVD Decrypter. This program will extract the DYRL DVD to your hard drive so that we can work with its files. It's getting harder to find this program since its author started getting hassled by "the man." However, at least for now, it's still available here. A program called DVD-Lab Pro (download). This is the program that we will use to work with the files that are extracted by DVD Decrypter. It's free and fully functional for 30 days. After that, you should pay. But you shouldn't need it for more than a day or two unless you get in the habit of doing this sort of thing. A computer with a DVD drive. Approximately 20GB of free hard drive space. Though, when you are done, this shrinks down to the size of a DVD (about 8GB). For Playback You have at least three options here: If you have a DVD burner that is capable of burning to "dual-layer" or "double-layer" media, you should be able to burn the results of our labor to a DVD that will play on your table-top DVD player. The resulting DVD will be region-free. This is the highly recommended option. You could use 'DVD Shrink' to compress the result of all this onto a standard (non-dual-layer) DVD that would then play on your table-top DVD player as well. However, I'm a purist and I don't want to lose any image quality, so that's out for me. Of course, the resulting DVD files will be playable on your computer as long as you have DVD player software installed. Basically, if you can watch a DVD on your computer now, you can watch this DVD when we're done. However, the Bandai/Emotion Region 2 DVD has some issues when playing back on a computer of which you should be aware. I wrote a review of the DVD that discusses these issues here. Getting Started Downloading and Extracting the ZIP File Download the ZIP file mentioned above. Using Winzip or the file decompressor of your choice (Windows XP has one built in), extract the ZIP file to the root of your C: drive. This file must be extracted to the top level ("root") of your C: drive so that its directory structure is C:\macross-dyrl-r2. (screenshot). When in doubt, just type C:\ where it asks you for the destination path. Then check out the screenshot above to make sure things look right. The ZIP file extracts to its own folder named "macross-dyrl-r2" so it will not flood your hard drive with strange files. I wish I could make this last bit flash in bright neon because this has tripped up more than a couple of people. The ZIP file, by default, wants to unzip to a folder based on the ZIP file's filename. You must override this and just tell it to unzip to C:\ and nothing more. The ZIP file contains a folder, so your C: drive won't be messed up. But you must have the correct folder name and directory structure for the rest of these instructions to work. DVD Decrypter Put your copy of DYRL (Bandai/Emotion Region 2 Release) in your DVD drive. Open up DVD Decrypter and choose Tools along the top. Then click Settings. Click the IFO Mode tab and set everything up like this image. Then click OK. After clicking OK, click Mode along the top, then choose IFO. Now click the Stream Processing tab on the right. You should see something like this image. Note that DVD Decrypter should have automatically detected the two files you will need and each of them is already checked: Click the first stream (video) to highlight it. Make sure that you only highlight it and do not uncheck it. Then click Demux below. (screenshot) Click the second stream (audio) to highlight it. Make sure that you only highlight it and do not uncheck it. Then click Demux below. (screenshot) [*]Click the "Folder/Hourglass" icon and then select "C:\macross-dyrl-r2\Demuxed DVD" as the destination path. (screenshot) [*]When you're ready, press the green arrow to begin "demux"-ing (screenshot). Now, wander away for about twenty minutes to an hour. . . when it's done, you should have a bunch of files resembling this image in C:\macross-dvd\Demuxed DVD\. We're now done with DVD Decrypter. DVD-Lab Pro Open DVD-Lab Pro. Click Continue and/or OK until you get past the introductory screens. What you choose here does not matter because we will be opening up a stored project in the next step. Click File along the top menu. Then click Open. Navigate to C:\macross-dyrl-r2\Project File\ Open macross-dyrl-r2-perfect-subs.dal You should then see a bunch of stuff pop up on the screen. You can ignore all this stuff. If you are the adventurous type, feel free to explore things a bit. However, if you think you might have messed something up, just be sure not to save and re-open the file above. Click Project along the top menu. Then click Compile DVD. Confirm that all settings look like this. Set the destination path to whatever you wish. Though, a place for the Final DVD Image is provided at c:\macross-dyrl-r2\Final DVD Image\. Click Start. Your hard drive should go a little crazy, and it will say: "Frame Indexing Movie 1." The frame indexing is done only once as long as you retain the IDX file that it will be placing in your C:\macross-dyrl-r2\Demuxed DVD\ directory. Future compilations (if necessary) will not require frame indexing. After it has finished frame indexing, you'll jump back to the main window but will see a log on the left side reporting your progress. (screenshot) Note: Sometimes, for some reason, the DVD doesn't compile completely the first time. The log says "Start building video manager" and then only a few seconds later, says "done." But there are no files created. If this happens to you, just start the compilation up again. When you see "Muxing in progress" in the little log to the left, and your hard drive starts to go a bit crazy, you'll know you're in business! After about 30-60 minutes, the log should report "Done." At that point, you have a brand new DVD image. You're now ready to burn it to a DVD, watch it on your computer, or copy it over to your HTPC.

So far, there's really been no argument to "kill." Just your assertions that you're right, and that we aren't allowed to doubt your wisdom. But, if your argument "lies in the material itself". . . please kindly point out where it lies and, more importantly, why it defies any other interpretation. That's how you, ya know, back up your arguments. Just stating that your views are beyond reproach is just bluster intended to cover up a total lack of evidence. For the record: I doubt anyone would have any problem with your opinion at all except for the fact that you stated it as religious dogma that is beyond question. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. You can have yours. Just don't try to assert that yours is the only valid one on the topic. Especially when you are totally unwilling to back it up. H

And two hours of searching later, I finally found this thread! Would you two gents mind if I used this logo on the menu for the DVD Region 2 Do You Remember Love? (w/ English Subtitles!) modification that I'm planning on posting real soon? To be clear: Nothing is being sold, and I'm not offering the DVD for download. I'm merely providing a few files that people can graft onto their existing DVD to provide high-quality english subtitles as I did for the fx release of DYRL here. It would be small and in the corner of the main menu. Please let me know. Thanks, H

akt_m, Sweet avatar! Do you have that in a bigger size? H

I'm not saying this thread is the place to do it. . . This thread should not exist. That's pretty obvious. Has there ever been anyone towards which Jemstone was against hostility?!? H

It's a shame we can't see this as an opportunity to educate some of those misguided RTers about just how much cooler Macross is once it's divorced from all the RT baggage. But that's expecting too much of both sides. . . H

Well, this could be anything, but I'd immediately start suspecting that either the drive's firmware needs updated or that the drive itself is failing. The drive's failing to report a DVD to Windows Explorer is the most troubling part. This tends to disqualify the DVD playback software as an issue. Have you tried looking for updated firmware? If you do end up trying a new DVD drive, you can pick one up very cheaply as long as you know where to shop. I usually go to NewEgg. I just got a dual-layer DVD burner (NEC 3520A) there for about $55. Best Regards, H

There are a few members here who satisfy the following four conditions: They have been around MW forever. They have gotten bored with MW. They therefore don't do a whole hell of a lot. . . other than perpetuate their invented tough-guy/a-hole online persona. This amuses them and makes them feel less bored. They know at least some of the moderators on a semi-personal level. So, they are generally above some of the rules of which many noobs would quickly run afoul were noobs to behave similarly. The best advice is to ignore them or force yourself to recognize some of the heavily buried "humor" in their posts. It's the only way to get by around here. H

This is more than just a Keith post. It's like a self-parody of a Keith post. . . with a dash of AgentOne arrogance stirred in for extra flavor. Keith, this is obviously something you just cannot back up. Hence your baseless assertions with no real argument behind them other than to say that it's beyond arguing! This is your interpretation which is based on you being a Macross 7 hippy. You're welcome to your interpretation, but please spare us the "it's not open to interpretation" crap. I'm pretty sure if one of us were granted an audience with Kawamori, and we said: "Is the core of Macross emotion?". . . he'd laugh his @ss off and then say: "No, it's about cool-looking transforming mecha." Wasn't Macross originally conceived as a parody of Star Wars and other pop sci-fi movies/series like it? Exactly what "emotion" and "music" were they going to parody from Star Wars? If, even as far back as the original series (as you assert), the show was supposed to be about the emotion that singers instill in their songs. . . you'd think that they would have put more effort into writing good songs. . . what with them being the entire core of the series. But, if you listen to Kawamori himself during the hidden audio track on the last Animeigo DVD, he quit openly laughs at how lame the songs for SDF Macross were. . . and how they just threw them together themselves and recycled them throughout the series. As someone else already said: Get off your high horse dude. Yours is not the only possible interpretation. Just because you think you have some unique and/or "enlightened" view on music doesn't mean that we need to incorporate your (rather odd) view into the series. And it's a safe bet that Kawamori didn't as well. Oh but wait! What am I thinking?!? Here I am discussing and debating this when the master-of-all-that-is-Macross has decreed that this matter is "not a subject for debate." Odd, that. H
