I recently stumbled upon this: Darth Vader's Web Log This guy should have written the prequels. Obviously, he plays some of it for laughs. But, there are also some great moments where he takes the stories as already told via the movies to another level. I especially like the way he works Qui Gon into things. It's too bad that the website layout is so bad. It's "newest entry first". . . and the archive links on the right take you to several postings. . . but you have to scroll to the bottom and read up. Edit: This problem is now rectified since you can now choose the "read chronologically" option. Though the "Original Weblog" option is still a mess. I recommend the chronological option highly. Check it out! It's well done! H

Revenge of the Sith ROCKED! (spoiler free)
Hurin replied to 1st Border Red Devil's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Hey guys. I haven't seen it. . . and I won't comment further because of that. But I'm concerned by a review that I fear will hit home for me when I see it. Can any of you guys address this? Is it valid? Will it seem more valid after the excitement of all the visuals wears off? I fear that perhaps the movie as it stands alone is magnificent. But, as usual, I fear I may dislike it for the drastic, retroactive effects it may have on characters and films that we've had since childhood. I won't be seeing it until Saturday or Sunday. So, I'd be curious about what you guys have to say until then! H -
Probably not. We aren't that special over here. I'm sure we aren't the only ones who disliked the hands on the DYRL valks. And releasing the CF is just common sense. They have people who study the market. . . and I'm pretty sure they're much more interested in what their Japanese customers have to say.

Have we seen the box? We're sure the box will say DYRL?

Are these now available? (Please!) H

5/18/2005 Update: Fixed oversight where fade-in menu transition showed option on main menu that does not actually exist! Now removed. Changed Hikaru to 2nd Lieutenant (from Ensign) in beginning. Changed it so that Minmay refers to him simply as Lieutenant instead of "Mr. Ensign." Changed all references to Roy Focker's rank to "Major" (instead of Commander). Changed all references to Misa's rank (prior to return from earth) to Captain. Changed all references to Misa's rank (after return to Macross) to Major. Changed Max's rank to "Captain" during the period surrounding the Milia vs Max battle. Changed Admiral "Gloval" to "Global". . . because this is Macross, dammit. All ranks should now be accurate. I verified each change as best I could. When in doubt, I listened for the actual Japanese word and consulted this page. Thanks to Mechamaniac for pointing out the problems with Hikaru's and Misa's rank. While fixing those, I also noticed a couple bad references to Roy's and Max's rank as well. All are now fixed.

Nah! Wasn't directed at you. But it seems like somehow my post had been mis-interpreted by a prior poster as an attack on Robotech fans. I didn't call them ignorant. Nor did I really say much of anything else except that some of them would be welcome. . . but a large number of RT.com people would dilute the MW atmosphere and (for me) spoil the event.
-
Just in case there is any confusion over what I said, allow me to put a part of it in bold: But I don't think that will be the type of Robotech fan that shows up if it is publicized over at RT.com It's not like we're going to forcefully remove Robotech fans from the event if someone shows up who loves "The Macross Saga" part of Robotech. But, neither do we want to be inundated with a ton of people who have never even seen DYRL.
-
I realize this won't sway a lot of people one way or the other, but for me personally, knowing that a bunch of people from RT.com are going to be there will probably dissuade me from attending. I wouldn't mind people who like RT. . . and are familiar with Macross and MW showing up. . . but I'd probably stay away if this thing were publicized at RT.com and a bunch of those types were going to show up. What do you mean by "those types?" My experience with the Robotech fan community is admittedly pre-Robotech.com, but just about every Robotech fan I met was familiar with Macross and was a fan of both. In the days of the DoZ (largest online Robotech fan club before Robotech.com) we talked extensively about Robotech and in the newsletter Macross news was written about right next to Robotech news. I'm not sure where the idea that Robotech fans know nothing about Macross or are completely ignorant come from, but from my experience it hasn't been the case. If they're being judged on the few bad-apples that come over from Robotech.com then there's really no basis, given that at least one of our well-known members here on MW used to spend a fair amount of his time trolling Robotech message boards. Also, this event isn't online... it's in person. Considering we're a couple of anime forums, no one's really going to have the balls to confront anyone or start any fights in person, and I bet face to face everyone will be quite cordial. Well, that's your experience. My experience is that I'd rather spend time with the people I've grown to know here. . . who won't refer to "Veritechs" or "Admiral Hunter" and who won't confuse the protoculture with a power source. But that's just me.

Pussy. Bitch.

Well, I skimmed and didn't see anyone really say this (ewilen came close). So, allow me to once again spout off on Free Market/Capitalism Rule #1 once more: The final price of an item has very little to do with its production costs. In a free market, the price is set by how much people are willing to pay and how many items are available. . . period. Though, the production costs may help to set a price "floor" below which the producing company will usually not go (unless they have a long-term strategy of gaining market, etc.). As ewilen said, companies set their prices as high as they can. . . so long as they aren't so high that it drives off customers who would have bought at a slightly lower price (thereby increasing profits overall). Soda fountains are a good example of this. When you fill up that Big Gulp at 7-11, you've probably used less than five cents in paper/plastic cups, water, syrup, and carbon dioxide (for carbonation). Yet, you pay up to $2 for the drink! Is that highway robbery? Should you only be paying $.04? Of course not! Because, if we were all only willing to pay $.04 for a Big Gulp, there wouldn't be any Big Gulps for sale! Okay, rant over.

Which, thankfully, still leaves us plenty of words that aptly describe you! H

LOL! That's the t-shirt that came with Robotech Battlecry! Nice use of it!

this is NO GOOD Oh well. Nothing you can do about it but then again, we could misinterpret what they are saying but somehow I dont think so. It's not exactly a shocker if it does indeed turn out to be the last of the 1/48s. Graham once said that Yamato said "no way in hell" (not direct quote) when asked about two-seaters. And I'm sorry, but Kakizaki has never gotten any love, and I wouldn't expect that to change either. I'm usually an optimist. But even I have to see the handwriting on the wall. They've done about all they can do with the mold. Anything else (except Kakizaki) would require a lot more than repaints. I wanted a CF as their (realistic) last hurrah. Looks like that's what we're going to get. Unless, again, there is some mistranslation going on. But. . . it sounds right to me. H

Again, I don't think my opinion matters much. . . but just sharing. H On second thought. Maybe I could set up a booth with side-by-side comparisons of Macross and RT. . . compare voice acting. . . music. . . annoying narration. . . and too much exposition. . . It could be a mass intervention! H

For some reason, a Strike CF sounds cool. . . even though I doubt there were many flight group/squadron commanders in stock CFs. But I could be wrong. H

I do. Otherwise they stop bleeding. H

You write all that as if his main goal on these forums isn't to annoy us. H

God, what a moron. I mean, we all knew he was a lame-ass poser idiot. . . but here's the final proof. Thanks BSU! Good catch! H

wise words from a wise man. So, I guess my (same) words a few days ago were wise words from an idiot? Seriously though, even though we're all hedging our bets by pre-ordering, I don't think we'll have any trouble getting our hands on some CF-goodness. H
-
Hmmmm, perhaps because it was animated twenty years later and the creators weren't about to make things look less cool and appealing to today's viewers for the sake of nit-picky continuity concerns. Which, of course, is the problem a lot of Macross fans had with Zero. All those mecha seem better/cooler than what eventually comes (technically) later!
-
Hmmmm. . . If anyone ever finds a DVD or VHS copy with all the dialogue, let me know.
