One of my friends (who does a perfect Walken impression) sent this to me on Thursday. I thought it was a joke too. . . but wasn't 100% positive because there are just some odd things that make you think: "Wait a minute! This might be for real!" But, it's now being reported on Instapundit. . . so unless he's in on it (or has been taken in by it), it's real. It could still turn out to be fake. I'm not vouching for it. But at this point, I think it might very well be real. Even though I see some of those pictures and think: "No way!"

We're not exactly debating hardcore issues here or even his stance on them. And if someone starts in with real politics where Walken is concerned, I'm sure this thread will be (appropriately) closed. H

The patron saint of Southern Cross threads is officially running for President. At first, I thought it was an elaborate hoax site. But, apparently, it's real. . . Walken for President

There are people who still swear by the 1/60 line even after they have their 1/48s. But, in my experience, they are the minority. For me personally, I sold off my four or five 1/60s once I got my first few 1/48s and then realized that (aside from the 2-seaters), just about every 1/60 valk will also be available in 1/48 scale. I just didn't see the point in getting the 1/60 "just to have them" when I could get something better, even if it was more money. If you want the best, and you have the money, I'd just skip the rest of the 1/60s (and sell the ones you have?) and then concentrate on the 1/48s. Buying both lines just seemed silly to me. While deciding to go with the (IMHO) inferior line was even sillier. So, it became a no-brainer for me to go with the 1/48s. I'd at least recommend getting a Roy 1S. Something about that one really made me finally fall in love with the 1/48s. Whereas I was only lukewarm towards my Hik 1A (especially how it looked in battroid mode) when I first started collecting 1/48s. Good Luck! H

Well, without turning this into an RT vs Macross thread, let me just say briefly that I think a lot of people find Macross to be better because it's not nearly as kiddified. I would have cringed throughout showing my girlfriend Robotech because of all the over-narration, campy/cramped dialogue, and other cheeziness. Whereas, showing her Macross, there was no cringing at all except for when the artwork was terrible (Darn you Animefriend!) Danth, I'd be willing to lend you my Animeigos if you wanted to take a look. Let me know. H

ultimate power currupts ultimatly
Hurin replied to Ali Sama's topic in MW Site News & Member Feedback
Thats one of my favorite lines in Ghostbusters. 319392 BAH! That line is nothing without "MASS HYSTERIA!" following. -
You only get robber when it's against your will. This was just plain haste and stupidity on the buyers part. 319291 Hey now! I'm one of the guys who's usually sticking up for free markets and I think a seller should be able to sell at whatever price he wants so long as he's not misrepresenting his product. But, I think you could make a solid case that calling a Roy 1/48 "very RARE and long time sold out everywhere" constitutes misrepresenting the product. The only question here really is whether or not the seller did so intentionally. In this case, the news of yet another re-release is so new that he probably didn't do it on purpose. But, had the seller known about the impending re-release, yeah, I'd say that he would be robbing people if he continued to say that the Roy 1/48 is "super rare and long time sold out everywhere." In this particular case though, I did not intend to say that the seller was "robbing" the buyer. Rather, the buyer is just sorta getting "robbed" by circumstance and his own ignorance about how plentiful the 1/48 Roy will eventually be. I have no problem with a seller making as much as possible from a buyer as long as he isn't wilfully taking advantage of a buyer's ignorance. But we can still feel bad for a guy who just may be a Macross fan who doesn't yet know about MW or other news outlets for Japanese toy release dates. Poor guy.

Oh man. . . someone just got robbed. 1/48 VF-1S Roy for $355 It's bad enough as it is. . . but knowing that they're going to be re-released in about a month. Ouch! H

I know that you know your sh*t. But we're all capable of a brain hiccups every now and then . I thought maybe you had your search bar "floating" or something strange like that. Sorry about that. H

I think that's you dude. Firefox has a google toolbar built-in by default in the upper-right. Is that what you're seeing? H

It isn't a registered user (not underlined in the list). But what's interesting is that it is somehow recognized as being google rather than just another "guest." So, I'm just guessing that either IPB is smart enough to recognize the presence of Google's standard "bot" or Google has created an "IPB bot" that catelogs/indexes IPB forums. But, I don't know much about Google, search engines, or the inner working of IPB (yet, but I'm thinking of installing it on my site). So, I'm just guessing here. Pretty cool/interesting though. H

Okay, this may fall under the category of "big whoop". . . but I thought it was cool/interesting/odd when I looked at the list of online users and saw "google.com" there. I could be mistaken but, search engines have always been flakey about keeping track of discussion boards in the past. I wonder if this newer version of IPB (perhaps the inclusion of the lo-fi version) is more search engine/google friendly? Anyways, it looks like google is indexing this forum now. Which, I guess might be a good thing!

Edit: I originally wrote this post thinking that EXO was saying that Yamato showing us the 1/60 Monster Prototype was indicative of Yamato being able to change their minds about 2-seaters. I now realize that he was just correcting Godzilla who had stated that we never saw the 1/60 Monster prototype. So, the post below was written after I thought multiple people had brought up the point that Yamato had "backed out" on prototypes. My mistake. But I'll leave the post since I'm not a big fan of people just editing away their mistakes. I'm not sure that I see the connection between Yamato showing prototypes, then thinking better of going into production and their making a pretty explicit statement that they will not do something. If the intended meaning behind "They showed us x prototype and then didn't produce it!" is to demonstrate that Yamato can change their minds. . . that's fine. Yes, they are (of course) capable of changing their minds. Nobody is arguing that they aren't (and I hope that they do!). This thread reminds me of one from a long time ago. I got into a scrap with a member who was matter-of-factly saying that there would never be more 1/48 Roys released. His exact words: "wait for the re-release and be disappointed. the price will only go higher like everything else thats consider a collectible." I surely don't want to come off like that! Especially since we're now two Roy releases later. I hope there are two-seaters! I'm just skeptical. Don't shoot the messenger! And, if you must, shoot Graham! As for what Graham has actually said. I did a quick search on "seat" and "Graham": Some of those quotes are very strongly worded while others leave some room for a change of heart on Yamato's part. Again, I'm right there with you guys in hoping that they make the 2-seaters! But, this thread was asking about the possibility of 2-seaters, and I just thought I'd provide some information that up to that point had been neglected. Best Regards, H

Well, not giving prior notification and totally contradicting prior statements are very different things. I'm not sure Graham's current standing with Yamato has any bearing on the veracity of what they told him on a prior occasion. Again, I don't mean to pee all over everyone's corn flakes. I'm just saying what we know. . . and what we know is that Yamato said they weren't going to do it. Whereas, they never said they weren't going to re-release existing Valks and/or produce a CF. That's not to say we can't be optimistic that they may change their mind. I hope they do. But to this point, we don't have any indication that they have done so. H

VF-0S has covered where to buy pretty well. As for "cooler ones" coming out later, well, that's personal preference. But the Roy VF-1S (yellow stripe) is coming out (yet again) in a month or two (September, I believe, is the latest estimate). So, if you'd rather have a Roy than a CF, you might want to wait. The only truly delicate part on the 1/48 that is often broken is the backpack hinge. Also known as the BP8 (part designation). Once you know about this, however, it's pretty difficult to break as long as you always support it while you're mounting FAST Packs and don't try to over-extend the joint. A lot of people used to try to extend/compress it as far as the 1/60 backup hinge. . . and that's a big mistake as the 1/48 backpack isn't "double-jointed" like the 1/60 and also doesn't "ride" as high in battroid mode. I'd also recommend not putting a lot of stress on the intakes/hip area. My original VF-1A Hikaru has some hairline cracks where the metal swing bar pegs enter into the hips/intakes. So, that might be considered a weak point as well. But I've been careful with my others and haven't seen the problem recur. Hope that helps! Good Luck! H

Not to be a party-pooper, but didn't someone at Yamato tell Graham flat-out that there was no chance of two-seater 1/48s?
-
Was this thread intended to be a "differences between Robotech and Macross?" Because that seems to be what it's rapidly becoming. H
-
Wasn't there a Matchbox Ajacs toy from Robotech? H

Well, I'm not even sure if the green is supposed to be there in those shots. That might have been a case of an animator getting a bit too creative on a part that he knew would never really show up (that valk is only on-screen for a second before it gets blasted). Edit: If I were going to make a CF a member of Skull Squadron, I think I'd just stick with the standard brown/tan and put one of Roy's Skull sticker on the FAST Packs (plain black and white). There are also little skulls that go behind the cockpit. The ones on the heatshield and tail fins could be tricky since white may not show up as well on brown/tan. But, I'm not even sure I'd include 'em. H

Macross Plus Character Triangle Question
Hurin replied to DeathHammer's topic in Movies and TV Series
Funny you should mention this. Most if not all those questions were debated back in this thread quite a long time ago. And I just brought that thread up in the "myth" thread currently running. But, IMHO: Was this back in their high school era? Well, it was when they were a lot younger. But I'm not sure if I'd call it High School. Were Guld and Myung together and Guld caught Isamu/Myung cheating? The general consensus is that they Guld and Myung weren't together. . . but Guld definitely had feelings for Myung and felt betrayed when he mistakenly thought that they were gettin' it on and/or having an intimate moment. Did Guld rape her? What's actually on the screen would lead me to say no. But reasonable people can disagree about this. The narrative shows Guld catching a glimpse of his engraged self in a mirror and coming to his senses. But others have argued that this is merely a dramatic device and that a rape did take place, we just aren't shown it in the flashback. I'd argue that the mirror is a plot device that stops Guld from going through with it while making it clear that he fully intended to do so before stopping himself. I'd suggest reading above and below that post that I linked. It's really covered in a lot of detail in there, from a lot of different angles. H -
Myth: Guld definitely raped Myung. Source: Conjecture. Reasonable people can disagree, though the narrative on the screen shows Guld coming to his senses and stopping himself. This was discussed in detail (from both sides) a long time ago. Thread here.

You mean, like this?

I'm aware. But less than a year later, the Netherlands surrendered. By "your neck of the woods" I meant Western Europe.
