Can we somehow limit how much can be quoted?

Ah yes! A definite no-no. My mistake. Thanks for clarifying. H -
Whew! Was just thinking: Bah! I have to go home and take screenshots! Thanks Mm! H

Can we somehow limit how much can be quoted?

Why are we suddenly so worried about server space? Last I heard, the new server had more space than we could ever conceivably use (hence our suddenly increased PM boxes). Now, I'm not saying that this is an excuse to waste. Personally, I always use my own site to host images posted here. And, as a network admin, it irks me when I see storage space wasted. But, until Shawn or some other authoratative person states that there is a storage crunch, I'm not sure what all the hub-bub is about. Has there been real cases of abuse? Regarding quotes: Normally, if I know that I've been keeping up with a thread, the quotes don't bother me since I just scroll past them. Just because they're there doesn't mean you have to carefully read them. Is it me? Or are people just sorta getting nit-picky? It's probably me. H -
Well, I figure the first place I'll look is when she's arguing with Kamjin and Kamjin tells her that there is an ace on the Macross. After that, I think there's a scene where she begs LapLamiz to let her become a spy on the Macross. Hopefully shots from one or both of those scenes should suffice. H

If nobody has done so by tonight, I'll break out the DVDs and take a screenshot. H

I believe that Ansazi also offeres stickers upon request. Could be wrong though. H

While I think the vast majority appreciate the fact that someone is trying to do stuff, I think some people were troubled by getting trapped in a skin that was essentially non-functional (I don't think most are talking about being trapped in the new MW skin, but rather, the "snow" or another screwy skin that are now the only choices). The invision default skin and the new MW skin are now no longer selectable in the skin selector at the bottom. It might have been safer to copy the Invision default skin and then work on that as a test area rather than working directly on the main board skin that shows up for everyone. This has then prompted people to start screwing with their skins, and with the only two options being essentially invalid, we have a lot of people panicking. The two options remaining in the selector (Snow and some other odd one) are nearly useless and quite ugly. And there is no selection for either the default Invision skin, or the new skin. So, people feel trapped. Again, I think most people are excited to see some changes. But development by trial and error in a live, production environment takes an inordinate amount of care. . . even if it is only a message board. Edit: While I'm told that I write long posts, I think that may be a personal record for how many times I've repeated myself.

To fix the skin problem (that link didn't work for me either), go to the skin selector below and choose a skin. On the next page that shows up, look at the address at the top and find, among all the gibberish: . . .setskin=1&skinid=x&act=id. . . Where x will be a number. Change that number to 2, 3, or 4. (one gives an error). 1 = error 2 = the new Macross theme that Roy has been working on. 3 = the original Invision skin. 4 = Big mess. That should bring back the happiness. Edit, if you're already stuck within a skin with no skin selector at the bottom, copy and paste this link (earlier posted links were auto-truncated): For the in-progress skin: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?setskin=1&skinid=2&act=st&CODE=&id=&t=15413&f=28&st=120 For the Default Invision Skin: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?setskin=1&skinid=3&act=st&CODE=&id=&t=15413&f=28&st=120 Thanks to NMB4Macross and haterist for setting me on the path to finding this solution. This should get people out of the skin trap until Roy can fix it. H

Lament with me brother, for we are damned. On the bright side for us, though: The black box around the quote button is gone

Problem: The Default skin can no longer be chosen below with the skin selector. The "Default Skin" is the new one with the changed background and the new logo. Yet, once you change from the "Default" skin, you can't get it back. So, it looks like I'm stuck with the Invision basic skin again. Edit: Deleting cookies and logging in/out doesn't help because the skin choice (like several other preferences) are saved within your profile on the server itself. H

No need for apologies. Whether she does it or not, it's not under your control. And it's not like she's obligated. If she does it, that would be great. If not, well, it would have been great. Also, we should consider that she will probably put more love and attention to detail in it if she's motivated to do it and is doing it on her timetable.

Ah! "Eye Candy." I have always wondered what filter all these cool logos come from. You wouldn't believe what I've done to try to get metallic looks in my work. . . I've created custom gradients, etc. . . and they never look quite right. Thanks for the tip. I finally know which filter to use. I hadn't looked for a while, but a few years ago, I looked for a filter and came up empty. Your new logo (just posted) looks awesome. H

Actually, EXO, now that I look, yours (like my first attempt) was larger than that top light-blue area and wouldn't render properly in both browsers (IE and FF). It would have had the same problems in IE as my larger non-transparent one. I suppose your large transparent one could be resized to fit within that top blue area, but that may have been too much work for now or may have become too small to be legible. Regarding how you make such cool metallic block lettering in PS. How the heck do you do that? I've tried several ways, but they are all arduous and annoying and never look that good! What's your procedure? H
-
Yours is definitely better. I'm sure mine is just being used for simplicity for now. H

I'm running IE and it's purple.... 327916 Same here. What's the purpose of the box, anyway? I'm wondering...since links turn up blue and then when activated, purple, could the "quote" button actually be a hyperlink? 328258 Honestly? I think someone screwed up a CSS value in the templates for the skin.

What do you use to get such nice fonts/block lettering? It's a pain to do in Photoshop and I've been looking for a program that does it easily. H
-
Bah! Showing me up, eh! Edit: Hey! If you have a less-compressed version of that, I'd be happy to make it transparent! Yours is great! H
-
Hmmm, now that I see it in IE, I think the preferred (larger, non-transparent) one won't show right in IE. IE scales the site and moves everything down to accomodate whatever size the logo is. . . while Firefox (the one I was using when I created the image) just throws it up there and then throws everything behind it. In Firefox, that larger, non-transparent image would look great as its gradient blue and bottom gray should meld in completely with the the existing background. But, in IE, it looks like it will be quite screwy. So, for now, I guess I'd use that smaller transparent one that will work with both until someone creates a theme. I don't think the black one really represents any ongoing theme work that I know of. I think it's a stock image that was just found out there somewhere and used as a test. H

Howdy All, Obviously, that is a temp logo up there. But, well, I think we can all agree that the black background isn't exactly pleasant. I went ahead and created a bit more pleasing logo. It should meld right into the gradient background of the IPB skin. At first, I tried a transparent one, but there is actually wording and junk behind that image that showed through. . . so I instead just sorta grafted one together in a JPEG with no transparency. It should work that way. Here it is: If you want the tranparent GIF one, you can download it along with that non-transparent JPEG here. To make it work with IPB, either overwrite the existing "templogo.JPG" with this file (case sensitive JPG there at the end) or edit the theme/skin so that it goes to the new image. I was thinking of doing a bit more with it. But I think speed is more important than quality at the moment since that black logo up there just looks sorta odd. Quick Addition: What that black temp image and my replacement image above blocks is the simple text link to macrossworld.com. If that's important and you want it to show, you can use this smaller image. . . and transparency will work because nothing will show through. Personally, though, I like the larger one and how the white mid-line splits it up. . . but then we have no link to the main site. H

Wow. . . that's quite a new theme!

Sorry to hear about your friend. Can you share more details about this though? That's a great Shatner story. Was it done through any type of "last wish" organization? Or did someone he knew put Shatner in touch with him? Best, H

If not for people with too much time on their hands, there wouldn't be much Macross content on the web at all!

Thanks man! You rock! I just scored Mospeada and Southern Cross for $15 each! H

What's your point? Is bandwidth and storage space needed for the finished product? I can probably oblige. H
