That's cause you've just got to hit that...over and over. And her red valks are the coolest.

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!!!!! Okay. I don't know what to say. That was beautiful. Robotech, coming back if full glory. Beautiful animation, nicely integrated CGI. I'm blown away. I got goosebumps. Bottom line: When I saw the trailer for Star Wars: Phantom Menace, I was very worried. I'm not worried about this. PLEASE LET THIS HAPPEN!

Hey...yeah, I think I got my VF-2SS from them too! I forgot about that. I still have that thing somewhere. I'm glad some other people remember those catalogs.

Back in the early nineties around the time Macross II came out, I used to get black & white pamphlet-like catalogs in the mail from a store called Newtype (which I discovered through an ad in "Animag"). I believe the store was somewhere in California, and they sold all kinds of anime (or "japanimation" for us old folks) robot models and toys. The catalogs were standard sized paper, folded and stapled in the center like a booklet. The "cover" was a colored piece of paper and always had some cool mech design on it. This was pre-internet, and I think the catalog was made with a type-writer and copy machine, but I absolutely loved getting them. The few b&w pictures in the catalog were always a thrill. I think the first one I got had the VF-2J on the cover. The only thing I ever got from that catalog was the release Mospeada VR-052 "Cyclone" for only $40. That thing was a treasure until my dumb-ass friend (who I told never to touch it) broke it on purpose. I just remembered, I actually called the guy who owned the store and asked him what "Super deformed" meant, because they had cheap transforming SD valks. He didn't speak fluent english, and he told me that SD meant "cute, like baby." If I could go back in time, I'd buy their whole stock of SD valks. *Sigh* Any other totally random memories form the time that "japanimation" was still exotic and hard to find?

Okay, I have to ask two questions... 1) How the hell do you get Mari Ijima to come to your party? I imagine her time is worth something. 2) Isn't Macross over 20 years old now? That means Mari Ijima must be like 40. In those pics, she looks barely...legal. How old is she anyway?

Okay, Takara couldn't blow away Yamato sculpts. But they could do about 10% better, I think. Takara could blow away Yamato in terms of QC and overall coolness factor, IMO. Sorry, the Yamato toys just don't impress me much.

D'oh...those fansub avi's have some seriously ugly compression artifacts. I guess I shouldn't complain. But I sure wish there could be a legit english release.
-
Sweet. The first episode is almost downloaded. I couldn't get any of the big collections to download, though. I hope these have english subtitles...
-
Option 1. Getting a fansub is possible, they are out there, but it may take some doing. But it's probably your best bet, if you look below. Option 2. NO. Bootlegs are bad. Not only are you supporting organized crime, but organized crime that cannot comprehend either the Japanese or English languages. Option 3. That will be a long wait...right now, any further Macross releases outside of what's already here (TV, II and Plus) is dependent on an amicable resolution to a number of ongoing or threatened lawsuits. 311261 Thanks Pat. Too bad there's not an easier way. So, more questions... Where do I get a fansub of Macross 7? Is it possible to get DVD instead of VHS?
-
Question: I want to watch Macross 7, but I only speak english. What do I do? Get a fansub? Buy a bootleg? Wait for an english release -- or is there one already? What's my best bet?

You don't wanna know what I would do for a Alternators quality Valkyrie. 310825 Its too bad there still wouldnt be Hasbro cheaper versions. 310898 Dude, I'd gladly fork over $50 for an import, Binaltech-style metal valkyrie. I think the Binaltech/Alternators blow away, in every aspect, anything Yamato or Bandai has ever done. Sculpting, quality, price...everything!

List the most ugliest Transformer toys out there?
danth replied to SupremeKaioshin's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Am I the only one who likes Energon? They're nice and chunky, like old school toys. They have nice, humanesque proportions in robot mode. They're very articulated. And they look mechanical, unlike those organic, insectoid-looking Armada TF's. -
Wow. I was never a huge fan of the 1/60's, but this VF-0 makes the Yammy VF-1's look awesome. For Yamato to make a valk with removable legs and nose that doesn't even look good is pretty lame. They took the easy way out and it still looks bad.

What's going to be released in 1/100 scale? Someone please inform me because I've been out of the loop for a while.

Here are some possible solutions: this thread from robot-japan talks about using bleach. If anyone figures this out let me know. My freaking Joke Machine has yellowed! (just found out today)
-
Welcome fellow newbie. Yeah, I started a thread like this a few days ago and it got locked pretty quick. At firtst I thought it was just because I mentioned Robotech...
-
I don't think fifbeat was talking about the mods, dudes. I think he was talking about the regular members who complain about a topic for some silly reason. And I like his idea of letting chips fall where they may.

What's all this talk of bloodletting and flaming and "can't we all just get along"? It looks like we are getting along and having a nice, vigorous debate. This right here is the bread and butter of internet forums. The amount of polite restraint in this thread alone is heroic. (Hey, you exaggerate...I exaggerate. )

I'm not impressed with the Masterpiece or the Yamato 1/60. The Yamato has crappy paint, annoying stickers, too many parts to replace/remove during transformation, too many ugly gaps in the legs where the different pieces come together, and the legs always fall off in guardian mode. Plus the plastic just feels weak and crappy. The Masterpiece...well, for that much money i'll get a new 1/55 with fast packs. But the rereleased Bandais don't fit together as well as they used to. I think it's a combo of weak springs, weak plastic, and that ungodly gap behind the air break. So for me it's Joke Machines. Mwa ha ha! Or the 1/48s if I get rich. (Yeah, I know this is my 4th post and nobody knows who I am. So sue me. )

Did I studder? Ha ha ha. No, really, I know valks aren't actual "robots" (they're not automated), but valks are generally considered "robot toys" by people who collect more than just Macross. Wicked Ace: Yeah, I know all about that. Actually it was the anti-Robotech bigots who soured this place for me the first time around. But I'm not here to appease jerks. If certain people can't understand that I (and about half of Macross fans in the US I'd wager) grew up on Robotech, then that's just too bad for them. It wouldn't be fair to deny me my nostalgia now would it? I'm pretty sure you guys are half joking about the Robotech thing anyway. Half joking... Thanks for the warm welcome! Time to go to the Models forum and beg for some Bandai SD kits.

What's up folks? I'm a looooong time Macross/Robotech fan. I used to come to this site a while back but I got out of Macross for a while. Ever since I bought Smoke Screen from the Transformers Alternators line a few weeks ago, I've been back on the Japanese robot kick. Just wanted to intoduce myself before I start posting. And if anybody wants to unload some HiCompact or HiComical Bandai valks, I'm your man!
