List of the Best Mech shows on Dvd in the US
danth replied to Area88's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Gall Force was definitely a mecha show, and the mecha rocked. Transforming hoverbikes, combining space fighters, cool power armor, and much more. Area88, you the same gentleman I know from AnimeJump? -
Why macross fans thinks Macross 2 is worse than Macross 7?
danth replied to kamikaze_kamujin's topic in Movies and TV Series
Since people are mentioning Macross Plus, I'd like to say how boring I thought it was. The characters were flatter than Basara. I hated Isamu and Guld, and I can barely remember the names of the dumb girls. I thought the flashbacks were retarded melodrama for melodrama's sake, too. Ooh, a mysterious past. Did Guld rape Myung? Who cares! When everything you know about a character is revealed through flashbacks and exposition, something's wrong. And speaking of Macross 7, I've been listening to the music today, and holy god is it wonderful. To dismiss it as bubblegum pop music is to reveal ones woeful lack of taste. I've heard more good songs from Macross 7 alone than I've heard from American bands since Macross 7 was made. (I've never been a huge fan of American music) -
Why macross fans thinks Macross 2 is worse than Macross 7?

I loved Macross Seven, though I agree with a lot of the complaints. It could have been distilled down to 36 episodes for sure, maybe even 26. Some of the "filler" episodes were still fun, though. I absolutely loathe that "Power to the People" song -- but all the other songs rock. Also, Basara should have had some flaws and character development, but I loved Mylene and Gamlin. As for the premise, I love it. If you like Macross but can't get over guitar-controlled Valkyries or mecha-tits, you're just a prude, in my book. Get over it and have some fun. -
I've been looking for a definitive Mospeada artbook forever. I don't think they exist. However, there are two books that have some Mospeada color art & line art. One is B-Club special # 9: Artmic Design Works, and the other is Entertainment Bible #16, Artmic 1. Also, the REF Field Guide from the Robotech RPG has a bunch of original lineart. Try this page for lots of Mospeada literature. Many of them are just articles in magazines though.

Remastered Patlabor Movie I Is Freakin' Sweet
danth replied to Penguin's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I gots questions too. I know I'm going to get into Patlabor, and these movies are on my list. I would just get the regular edition, but I hear there is line art in the LE books. I'm a sucker for line art. Are we talking a bunch of line art? Does the LE for Patlabor 2 have lineart as well? Please tell me about the line art included in each set, if you don't mind. Thanks! -
Yeah, the landing gear are a pain on mine too. And the rudders are a bit floppy. What's really loose on mine, though, is the right shoulder; it can't even hold the gun without falling. Still, it's perfect looking. I wish the VF-1s were so perfect.

Would You Buy A New Perfect Variable 1/60 Vf-1?
danth replied to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0's topic in Toys
I want new 1/60 VF-1's because 1) The original 1/60 was not perfect-transformation 2) The 1/48 had hideously low-hanging shoulders and arms in fighter mode 3) The 1/48 had a weird bulbous canopy 4) The "swoop" of the 1/48 nose was exaggerated. 5) A 1/60 VF-1 would be in scale with the new valks -
Yes. Now they need to make a 1/60 perfect transformation VF-1 with all of the bad-assedness of the VF-0's (and no low-hanging-shoulders in fighter mode or bulbous canopy).

Man, when you don't hear anything from Toynami, you know it's time to doubt. And we haven't heard zip about more 1/100 stuff. I ain't holding my breath.
-
Dude, you are now my best friend forever. I haven't bought a single 1/48. When they do what Ghostryder said, I'm all over it.
-
The ugly gullet is still in full effect. Considering that horrible flaw, it's pathetic reading these ga-ga posts. For $150, this toy is far from perfect.
-
But let's make sure Yamato knows we all want our 1/60 VF-11's first. Right guys? ...guys?

I read an article about a new study in genetics. Apparently, parents who are good looking are more likely to have girls, and parents who are smart are more likely to have boys. I've oversimplified it, but that was the gist. I can't find the url though, darn it.

Wow, I'm looking at my 1/100's just trying to imagine how that could happen. I'm guessing the plastic broke, because it doesn't look like there's any glued pieces around the neck or back hatch. Can you tell us exactly which part broke? That would help me to not break mine.
-
No, that's overtheshoulderboulderholdertechnology.

I think the 1/100 ties the 1/48 in gerwalk. In the other modes, the 1/100 is a close second to the 1/48. I think the 1/48 nose-cone swoop is really overdone, personally -- I prefer the 1/100 nose. On the other hand, the 1/100 has the high backpack in fighter. But, then again, the 1/100 doesn't suffer from those ugly, low-hanging shoulders that the 1/48 has in fighter. Jenius -- great pics, but I still have to complain that you aren't fully closing the gap between the 1/100's hip and central plate. There shouldn't be a gap like that. This pic that I stole from F360 shows what I mean: EDIT: Oh yeah, I think the 1/60 is hideous with it's cracked-up legs. And also: HEY! WHEre DA CHUNKY MunKEEZ?!? LOL!!1

I swear I saw one of these at a Pic-and-Save in Modesto, CA when I was a kid. My horrible were-batty of a mom didn't get it for me even though I begged. It was about 1/100 scale too, and packed in fighter mode, but it looked like cannon-fodder colors. Did the bootlegs ever come in cannon-fodder colors, or am I crazy?
-
Look at that...just look at it. And then remember the people who said this toy is ugly. Can you ever trust them again?
-
I'm with you there. If the 1/100's wings are closed in battloid mode, then the legs will stay in position just fine. However, if you want the wings open for a cool pose, the legs are totally loose. Maybe toynami didn't realize people would want to pose their Battloids with wings open -- which is pretty dumb. Okay, now I think you're crazy. I'll give you the shoulders -- they are too big -- but otherwise, the overall proportions rock.

Wow, can you watch it with the f*cking spoilers, people? God damn. Some of us are still watching this series.
-
Yeah, I watched all 7 of google's tutorials, and nothing was mentioned about polyhedrons. I'll keep looking. Those are great bits of advice, thanks.
-
The stands are kinda useless unless you use glue. When I use the stands to display my valks in fighter mode, the valks slowly succumb to gravity and end up in a nosedive position.

You mean the handful of models and toys right? That's a lot of mechandise. Yep Sure is. 424304[/snapback] Well, for toys, Macross 7 had the red and blue VF-19's and the two different VF-17's. Macross Plus got diddly squat (until 7 years later with Yamato). As for mainstream models, M7 got the same VF-19's from Bandai, and again squat for Macross Plus. I'm sure both series had garage kits and stuff, but for the mainstream stuff, M7 had M+ beat. I also recall seeing a bunch more posters and books for Macross 7 back when they were both out.
-
Yeah guys, any tips? Is there tool we just haven't found for creating polyhedrons? It's a pretty basic operation, so I would think it's in Sketchup -- but I've looked and haven't found it.

More 1/100 transforming Cyclones for me then...
