  1. Hey, I know a way this guy can get these images published. [whisper]It's called the internet.[/whisper] Not to be a jerk, but does this guy think he's gonna retire by selling a few pages of mecha designs? He doesn't even own the copyrights. Harmony Gold's previous Artbooks are a joke (mostly text with some crummy fan art and barely any line art); they can't do anything right. This hasn't changed. Am I out of line here? If I had found these designs, I would have put them on the internet without a second thought. Why hasn't Roger done just that?
  2. Still, I couldn't pass up a transformable Spartan Hovertank if they made one.
  3. Why must the stoic grimace of mature heroes be replaced with the poo-eating smirk of young punks?
  4. If so, will it be pre-assembled like a toy?
  5. Hell yeah. We need to do this stuff more often. When I downloaded it there were like 33 seeds. Bring on the old obscure anime torrents!
  6. Hey guys. I discovered this show last night, and this thread pops up today. Weird. Anyway, I don't like new anime. The designs aren't as artful, the animation sucks, retarded melodrama, etc. But I LIKE this show. The animation is really good. It's jokes are actually kinda funny. Crazy.
  7. They say in the review "it's not that new anime is bad, but..." It sounds so insincere!
  8. Weirdness -- my computer will play the region 2 DYRL disc even though it's set to region 1! Anyway, the original disc plays fine. So I dunno what the problem is. I realized that the skipping is not necessarily in the same spots. Sometimes it will skip badly, and I'll rewind and watch the scene again, and it will play fine. Or it will rewind super slow and a few seconds to go back one frame. I think I'll just try it again with another disc. EDIT: Yay!!!!!!!! I used Nero to shrink the DVD image onto a 4.7 gig DVD+R and it now plays just fine. I'm thinking the Memorex dual layer DVDs I bought aren't super compatible with home DVD players. Also, THANKS, HURIN!
  9. You rock! I've always loved that picture. Never saw the full picture before.
  10. Crap, I tried to watch this and my file is corrupted. I'll have to try downloading again.
  11. GARR! I demuxed and compiled the DVD image again -- on a completely different computer -- and the DVD image still skips frequently during playback on my computer. It's mostly the audio that skips, once every few minutes. I had no other programs running during the creation of the DVD image or during playback. Maybe the R2 disc itself has problems. I don't have a region-free player but I'll try to watch it somehow to see if it skips too.
  12. I tried this last night. Unfortunately the burned DVD skips like crazy. The final DVD image also skips a litle bit when I watch it on my computer. The subtitles are great though. I think the DVD player/burner I'm using might be messed up. I onced used it to burn some straight copies of movies that had no copy protection and they skpped bit too. Any other ideas of what the problem could be?
  13. The subtitle a .htm. Is that right? Does it work like a .ass file?
  14. This is one of those things where I really want to get excited but I'm too afraid to get my hopes up. So in effect I'm just nervous.
  15. Ditto. Have you seen the two Entertainment Bible books on Artmic? So many cool robots and spaceships! I'd love to see some Gall Force mecha myself. Especially the transforming hoverbike or the transforming personal shuttle, or even the Brontes.
  16. Thanks Area88. I must have been the first to d/l it from you. I'll let you know what I think after I watch it. Oh yeah, I just downloaded the subs, so it looks like his server is working again.
  17. Wow, thank you for doing all that work so my sorry as could look at all the cool pictures! That artist is really good.
  18. Man, EVERY review of Ariel I've seen totally slams it. If it's bad, hopefully it's so bad that it's funny. EDIT: Oh yeah, you should write a little review in this thread after you watch it.
  19. Thank you. That's sig-worthy.
  20. Oh yeah, I forgot to show my solidarity with people who think Akira is overrated. It really is. And whenever you read anime review websites, nobody has the balls to say it. It gets an automatic perfect score every time. I notice the same problem with Ghibli movies. I'm sorry, but they're not all perfect. I adore Kiki's Delivery service, and I loved Nausicaa as a kid, but I wanted Spirited Away to be over long before it was, and I thought Princess Mononoke was just okay. I think I actively disliked Porco Rosso -- I was so bored by it that I didn't bother watching it all. Yet through some sort of Ghibli fiat, all of these movies get five stars or A's everywhere you look.
  21. I love old-school anime from the 80's and early 90's, especially OVAs (back then we called 'em OAVs). I think they get slammed too hard in most online reviews. I too love Outlanders, Appleseed, and many others mentioned. You just can't beat old anime. I personally think the new stuff stinks to high heaven, because they don't feature much movement. The budgets are so low they can't even afford to animate lips and jaws moving, so when characters seen in profile are talking, they talk out the side of their faces. And of course they don't animate people moving when they talk, or any motion at all that requires a significant number of cels. For instance, those dogfight scenes from (the non-"Anime Friend" episodes of) Macross -- you don't see stuff like that anymore (unless it's CG, which rarely looks as good). A few seconds of dogfight meant the same Valkyrie had to be drawn like 50 times from different angles and in different poses. Those dynamic actions scenes are why I love Japanese animation. Plus, they must use a line-draw tool to draw digital cels nowadays, because none of the curves in new animation look natural. You can really tell when looking at characters' faces. Not only are the curves jarring, but they're simple. I find that, in today's anime, the characters are melodramatic and overly angsty as well.
  22. Likewise, when I was very young, my favorite movies were the Star Wars films (starring adults), and my favorite show was Greatest American Hero (starring adults). When I was around 10 years old, my favorite cartoon was GI Joe (adult characters). Kids naturally look up to adults and think they're cool, so what's with this idea that characters in kids shows have to be kids?
  23. Dude, I love Erasure. Their old stuff is amazing. And this is the second time in the past two weeks they've been mentioned on Macrossworld. This place is getting better!
