  1. That's cool. Its important that we can all say whether we loved it or hated it without getting flamed. If you can describe WHY you loved it, you might actually win some people over. Personally, I can appreciate any style, but the story and character development didn't capture me from one episode to the next. And that's my hope for improvement in the movie. The basics of long-form, plotted story development is why I got into anime in the first place in the 80's, as compared to episodic American TV. And I think that's what's lacking in current anime.
  2. I think that what we get in the movie depends on how successful the series was in hard numbers. Love it or hate it, if it works, they will stick to the formula. I wonder if it had higher TV ratings, music sales, and BD sales than Frontier at this stage. Anyone know? Looking just at DX Chogokin sales, I have never seen DX Valks stay at near retail on Ebay for so long. So that is one indication, but only an indication for the collectors, not the rest of the audience. Anecdotal data such as , "Wow, its so popular with tweens, and there are a lot of events", doesn't really indicate financial success.
  3. Hi Mechtech, So how did you go down the path of machining? Seems unfathomable.

Awesome! And I'm not even a fan of either of them.

    Bandai DX VF-31

mykombini has been good for me. I wont swear by them since they are new. But okay so far.

It's a beautiful valk in every way. I'm not into the F1 colors, so this is right up my alley. With the Kairos and the 262, I'm all good as far as Delta collecting goes.

    Bandai DX VF-31

So how many types of Kairos were actually seen in the anime and who flew them? I must have missed them due to being in a MOE-induced stupor.
  8. I found a cheap solution for bases to hold my electronics, as custom building bases turned out to be a pain in the rear. These bases on ebay come in different sizes and they are thick enough to take all the electronics inside. I unscrewed the cover and ripped out all the internal wiring, and kept it hollow for my stuff.

I think you will need a room-sized diorama!
  10. I'll take the flying rocks, but what I never understood was the need for severely anatomically detailed nudity. Macross nudity is usually not so "in your face".
  11. I was always a much bigger Macross fan than Mospeada in the 80s, but nothing made my little heart beat like the transforming cyclone. Such a cool concept.
  12. Looking forward to your news from the event. But with Kawamori focused on The Next, I am concerned he wont have had much time for the Delta Movie. Really hoping it will be a good finale to the series, which left a bad taste in my mouth.
  13. I think that makes sense. Arcadia's output is quite small compared to Yamato, and their prices have gone up. I always wanted a smaller high quality Garland, but I dont know if I can pull the trigger at these prices.
  14. I wish more companies would post transformation videos ahead of release. But in this case, I wouldnt have posted that video...
  15. Has there been a preview of the transformation?
  16. Pretty much wow.

  18. "We will never see another SV-51". Lets see, he may still be right about that!
  19. That's the key, I think. In general the anime industry needs better story and character development. You can have the odd production that is entertaining in other ways without a classic plot structure, but I dont think an entire industry can survive without the basics of good story telling.
  20. I think Arjuna is one of Kawamori's best work as a director.
  21. Without going all the way back to SDFM (since we are considered grumpy old foggies for even hoping), what are the chances the next Macross series even has as good a story and characters as Frontier?
  22. Some interesting discussion here and attempts at analysis. But given that M7 is aimed at kids, and given its "Gattai!!!!" hero style, I think a serious analysis of its contradictions would be futile. I didnt enjoy its repetitious aspects, and I would have prefered a higher mecha animation budget; but it would have been a rockin' series if condensed to 26 eps even without addressing my pet peeves about it. Overall, I think Basara is like a force of nature, and you cant really pin down his actions as "reasonable" in a normal sense and analyse too much. (I am agreeing with others here, it's not an original theory.) Love Basara, Love Mylene, Love Fire Bomber playing to Max and Miria in the stands any day. But keep repetitious Gattai and Macross separate.
  23. Looks awesome. Where's our video review? I just upload on Youtube and dont worry about the quality.
  24. I think there's a correlation between the number of new Garlands and my need to have one! But if I had to choose, Arcadia is the most trustworthy.
