Ahhhhh, it's nice to be among my brethren.
-
Interesting. But I suspect you had Nadia on TV. Correct or no?

Well, I'm not a perfectionist. We can use those scale kits and call it fan fiction! The USS Eisenhower has that angled launch deck which kinda looks like the Prometheus,

Thx Mechtech. Actually I've been reviewing your build for ideas. Your Daedalaus was a major influence in getting me into electronics. (FYI, your entire video is blocked in my country by WMG.) BTW, what would be the closest real world aircraft carrier model kits that could be used as a basis for scratching a Prometheus? Anyone know what the Prometheus deck and bow were based on? So how many Macross fans are there in Denmark? Really enjoying everyone's 1/20 progress around the web.

She's CG? No no no. I have a sinking feeling about this. Lets hope for the best anyway.

Leave a note, "Dear kids, this stuff is worth a lot of moolah on Ebay. Best wishes, Dad."

Well, I've got a fun 1/72 Macross project in mind, if you're up to a team build. I need to raise that platform with about 200g of weight, and raise those blast deflectors. I've got most of the parts ready on my bench. Just slowed down by the steppers research, though I might end up using DC motors instead.

Interesting. Do you know if the non-geared type get damaged if they keep rotating at a hard stop?
-
That's some fine "backpack" research there .

I built that same kit back in 1989 or 90. At the time I didn't understand kits, so I was frustrated that it needed painting and I glue parts that I should not have. I hated the thing, especially since I was a "Perfect Transfromation Snob" ahead of my time. This kit and the V1 Yamato 1/60 , pushed me away from Macross collecting for about a decade until the Perfect Transformation V2s came out. But looking back on it now after years of experience, I can say that it is a solid and great classic kit, especially if you love the old school designs. And I can add that in comparison, the modern transformable Bandai 1/72 is not good for anything except scrap parts. Build it, paint it, weather it, enjoy it. And share your progress

Hee hee hee! So cute.

valkyriepm, really nice weathering on that valk. I've been watching TONS of weathering tutorials. Now I need a subject to work with. Lt. Zombie, great scratch work there. I follow Ken Spriggs amazing detailed scratch work step-by-steps. Check it out! Mechtech, your lathe hobby continues to shock and awe me. As for me, I really like making my models move, so I have been studying how to control stepper motors with different Arduino driver boards and CNC conrol boards. I've never used steppers yet in my builds, only servos and DC motors so far. Since I have no programming knowledge, it's always months of study and research till I figure things out and find codes and wiring diagrams that work for me. I'm really excited about micro stepper because they don't need limit switches and are as small as 6mm. But so far I've found that micro steppers have too little torque to be useful in our models, unless I learn how to gear them up or design nearly weightless moving parts with low friction. Big Nema steppers are very powerful, but of course they don't fit in my scale models.

Here is a link to my Launch Arm build for your reference. I did a quick test on my HM-R. I am holding it with only 2x 5mmx2mm magnets. I think that with 4x magnets mounted in the claws you will have a strong hold, even with smaller magnets to fit your claw. (A couple points on my test: All the weight is on the Super covers, so they need to be closed with epoxy. There is also stress at the connection points between the Supers and the valk, which needs to be reinforced. You also need a way to keep the backpack closed, in my images the backpack isn't opening because the magnets are positioned only at the rear. ) -

Yes, you will need to redesign the arm for strength and balance. I have 4x magnets holding up my 1/72 to the Launch Arm (I can't remember if they were 3 or 4mm diameter). The valk weighs 100g. And the magnets were at least twice or three times as strong as required to hold it securely. -
I really don't get this. Was this gap apparent with Max's build?

If you want feedback, show us the designs before printing to save money. -

I didn't think of that. That might be a problem. -

Agreed. Four magnets in the claws should hold it. I would test 4x 2mm & 3mm diameter magnets and see which will work. But you will have to redraw the design of the claws with holes to take the magnets. -

If those HMR Supers can be opened, you could put magnets on the inside, and then magnetize the claws. -
OMG! It's huge. That's the money shot.
