  1. Yup, you have to glue, sand down, then prime. I use a little q-tip box for those little pieces.
  2. I finished mounting the valk base to the elevator lift. I made a clam shell for the valk base with all its electronics for light and sound. It seals with magnets so I can get at it in the future. The clam shell is mounted on the scissor lift and will go up and down independently of the remaining electronics for the project. I only have two sets of wires which come out the bottom of the clam shell for external power and wing motor control. So I can control the wings from the outside with bluetooth along with the other 3 motors in the project. The set up inside the clam shell base is an Arduino Micro, speaker, amp, and SD Card, controlling 27 leds and sound in the valk and base. I only need to access the base for reprogramming, but otherwise power and battery charging will be done from the outside with the lead wires out the bottom. The rest of the Flight Deck project is controlled by a second arduino with bluetooth control of the 4 motors (Deflector, Door, Lift, and Wings), and is independent of the valk electronics. The two Arduinos will be turn on at the same time, with the valk's Arduino running a sound and light sketch, and the flight deck Arduino for 4 motors controlled separately by the bluetooth app.
  3. REALLY nice diorama concept. Masterful work and weathering. The color scheme is quite unique too. Very low key. I would never have thought of an all white valk. Very sleek.
  4. The little guy looks great. Nice result out of a resin kit. Must have been hours of painstaking work. I like the original color scheme and decals. I would love to see a video of the transformation, however difficult it is.
  5. Hi Mechtech. Thanks for visiting! Yes, I used reed switches for the roller. You can see in the previous images how I placed them, and the big ol' magnet is on the exterior of the door. I had to test them carefully for placement to ensure they contact before mounting. Also, the pins of the switches tend to break off the body of the reed switch, so I strengthened them with epoxy.
  6. Thanks mickyg. Glad you passed by. 1. Because I thought it would be cool , and I like gimmicks. It is fan fiction, but looking closely at the TV line art, those valk elevators seem to be closed. Maybe someone has other line art examples. 2. Theoretically, its an "airlock". Only you and I know it's just a garage door roller. 3. A sliding airlock would be better, but would double the width of the deck... it has to slide somewhere, right? So a roller was the only option for me.

  12. The last gear on the Prometheus Flight Deck! I would appreciate your comments and feedback.
  13. I've finally finished the last gear on my Prometheus Flight Deck. I tried to make a rolling garage, but it can't close horizontally , only vertically like a car garage. So I went with Mechtech's approach and it did the trick. I used duct tape as my mesh to hold the door styrne strips together, and learned that neither epoxy nor super glue adheres to duct tape! That was a puzzle... Once I figured that out, I super glued the timing belt directly on the styrene and it stuck like a champ. Next I need to build the interior of the lift and make a big box for the thing.

  18. I slowed down the motor for the Deflectors. Starting to make some progress now that major issues are solved.

  21. So the third gear in this project is finally solved and I am super psyched about it. I've been researching and scheming and plotting how to solve this for about a year. One more gear to go. The scissors lift dimensions are 9:10 ratio for the short legs and long legs, to get a level surface. All the holes and supports also have to be symmetrical. Little motors can't lift this. I ended up using the strongest N20 motor I could find at 12V 60RPM, and added a compound gear to get it lifting above 200 grams, which is what I need for the valk. The compound gear is a beast, my new best friend saved the day. I scribed the elevator shaft by hand into the Trumpeter flight deck. My hands still ache. It was awful work, so I split it up over several days. Test fit looks about right. Lots more to do...
  22. This is what I'm up to in my dark cave. Took a lot of trial and error to get the right motor and gear set up, given that I don't know physics and how to calculate torque or the stall weight on this contraption. But it got done finally.
