Weathering is something I've struggled with for years. The first problem is you seem to need a gloss coat about an inch thick to make a workable top coat. And that is really tough for me to do. Then, I started off with a six pack of AK Enamel washes. And they were really clumpy and dry right out of the bottle. I've tried filtering them, mixing them, everything, but no go, they just suck. Even sent video to the manufacturer and they told me they don't look right. I also got Winsor and Newton artists oils, which I also struggle to thin with all types of odorless mineral spirits. But I'm working on it and trying to figure it out one of these days.

Thanks. My oil weathering is always rough. So I need to improve on my process.
-
I meant is it rough to the touch after all that weathering?
-
I have a question, when you guys weather with oils like that, is the surface rough, or still smooth like a base paint?
-
Thanks for sharing Brett. I was totally unaware of that. Which issue is it? Many months back, a guy on FSM forum suggested I submit it online. So I did. But I never heard anything about it until you pointed it out. So Macross got a full page on FSM! How likely is that? Awesome dude!

Hi William, My son wants to know which season you worked on and what you did?
-
That's the only way to go for me. If I can't find eye decals decals, then I don't do the figure.

I just got a Nail Laquer Shaker on Ebay that I highly recommend for your paints. It's the grey one with a pink label. I put my most problematic paint, Vallejo Air Gold, which has very thick pigment and never mixes well even with an agitator, and after a minute of shaking it came out finely mixed and smooth. I also put a Mr. Color Lacquer putty, which is always thick and gummy, and it came out silky smooth and very well hydrated.

interesting. Go for it.

Cool. Thanks.

Now that I want to see. I'm imagining a 1/48 Battroid sitting cross-legged on the edge

Thanks. That Scalemates is awesome. So based on their description, does this Revell version have the "new parts" from the metallic version that the original Imai doesn't have?
-
Yes, but I wonder if the larger 1/60s like the VF-0 will fit. Is that a 1/60 or 1/72 die-cast they have loaded on it?

I second that emotion. But I don't have an encyclopedic memory, someone remind me what that "Robotech" Sdf-1 is a repop of.
-
Of course I collect 1/60 valks, but I assume this is not made for them.

500 grams is a lot for a hobby motor to lift. I don't collect die-cast, so I'm not worried about it needing to lift heavy weights. But it will be good to know its limits.

Dang, that's heavy. Then it will handle a pla model much easier.

Oh, thanks, I didn't notice that. I just saw the batteries in the back. But regarding the functionality, notice how when the deck is weighted with a plane, it tilts forward as it goes up and down. I thought a professional design could avoid this drawback, which I first noticed when I researched this gear a couple years ago. Either the plane is nose heavy, or the tracks should be more centered on the deck to balance the weight. They may have been forced to mount the tracks and gears off center as a trade off, due to the form of the design and where the gears will fit. Or they might have tried to center the gears track, and it didn't work out. I wonder how much weight it can lift? I assume no more than 100-200 grams. Their 1/72 plastic model probably weighs less than 75g.

Trying to figure out how the motor works. I think this is the same set-up as @MechTech used in his Daedalus Scratch Build. The motor is inside the deck (under the plane), and actuates two gears which crawl up and down the rail tracks on the sides of the lift. But I can't see how the motor is getting power.

We're talking Macross 7? Okay, here's my take: I'm a 70's - 80's Yamato, Macross, Zeta, type of guy, and when I saw M7 it was blasphemy. I couldn't stand the bad animation, kitschy story line (do Exedore's giant head, vampires and spiritia ring a bell?). There was none of the "real" air combat stuff I loved as a teen, there was no classic love triangle, and the constantly repeated music and GETTA transformations grated on my nerves. In all, I saw maybe two frames of well drawn valkyries: One of the MAXL in gerwalk stance under a sunset and the Max/Miria launch at the end of the series; That's it, all other Valk key frames where designed for toddlers. But despite all the above complaints, which never improved, and I still hate to this day, the series grew on me. It had great characters, great attitude, an unforgettable force of the unviverse named Basara (who I assume was cloned from Minmay, daculture, and John Lennon), and the music was great, especially the CDs released after the series (I mean seriously, Fire Bombers vocalist is amazing). I will never rewatch it, it is not "my macross", but I am ready to listen to the music or rewatch Dynamite and the OVA's anytime to get my Fire Bomber fix.

Looks great! Mechtech, your milling skills have gone up to a new level! Really clean and sharp. You could probably recast your creations and sell them.

Awesome work! It's a mess.

Good call. Sometimes when a build is going well, you decide to put more into it.
