Alright I'll bite and who knows, if we can manage a civil conversation perhaps we can finally put this whole topic behind us. I am most definitely choice 2. I've bought the first release of several Yamato offerings and will probably do so again. Honestly the minor QC issues aren't that big deal to me. Macross is not my life, so if my purchase is less than perfect I don't sweat it and definitely don't let it detract from the overall enjoyment. Sure it would be nice to not worry about getting the short end of the yamato QC stick, but then again it's only a toy for goodness sake.

Yeah it says they link and you can add a second wall panel on top, but even if they don't link the way you want, it's nothing a hobby saw and some crazy glue won't fix.

If you don't want to make something from scratch you could try a few of these: http://www.hlj.com/product/KBYMB-09 http://www.hlj.com/product/kbymb-10 http://www.hlj.com/product/KBYMB-11

What was the first Macross toy(s) that started your collection?
Crazy Canuck II replied to UN Spacy's topic in Toys
Technically i guess my very first macoss toy was G1 Jetfire. Then a whole lot of nothing until I got 1/60 TRU VF-1 CF. It was ok, but didn't really rekindle any desire to collect macross. That honor goes to first issue 1/48 VF-1S Roy. It was all down hill after him. -
Thank god signs are pointing to these being costoms. Still, a 25th anniversary Vf-1 from Yamato could be fun. Does anyone know if the 2500th VF-1J is an official Macross scheme? I'm pretty sure it wasn't in any of the anime, but is is recognized as canon? Just wondering cause if it is, it seems like an obvious choice for a 25th anniversary VF-1.
-
I hope for everyone's sake those are fan customs. Besides if Yamato was going to do a 25th anniversary edition Vf-1, this scheme seems like a no-brainer: http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/magazines/mgpg12.jpg Hello... 2500th valk. 25th anniversary.... Duh!

I could see UN Spacy having some special forces for recon and sabotage for inside enemy capitol ships. They could probably go unseen for weeks all the while gathering info and with several portable reaction weapons could do some serious damage.

Ok how's this for a bit of conjecture? Like many I would love a 1/48 enigma, but it may not happen because AFAIK the original custom paint job was on a hasegawa. Why would that matter you may ask. Well, here's the conjecture. There may be some legal entanglements with copying custom jobs done to a differnt manufacturers product. If the enigma custom was commissioned by hasegawa they may own the rights. Or for all we know simply by publishing it on a given product gives that manufacturer some sort of ownership. Who knows? The reason I mention this is because so far the non canon 1/48 schemes have been either: 1. A yamato creation (LowVisII & Stealth) 2. A published creation applied to a yamato product (LowVisI & Urban Camo GBP-1S) Of course the fact that Graham said Yamato was considering the super nova schemes for the 1/60 YF-19 puts a hole in my theory since AFAIK those too were originally done on a Hasegawa. Point is I don't know, that's why it's all conjecture. Of course I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong.

Dang! no news about the YF-21. Oh well, at least now that the SV-51 is official there is no doubt in my mind a YF-21 is in our future. As for the SV-51... Personally it's not may favorite, but it's good news Yamato is willing to tackle something as complex as this. Makes me think there is nothing they won't try as long as they think it will sell. I'm happy to hear Yamato is considering a low vis YF-19 paint scheme and a new scheme designed by Kawamori is an interesting prospect. I really really hope Yamato elects to re-release Max and Millia VF-1J supers. I'm not liking the idea of non-super versions, but I suppose it would be better than nothing. If anything I'd like to see Yamato release the Max and Millia and the fastpacks separate, so people can choose if they want fastpack like they did with the stealth. Or perhaps as two box sets, one for the valks and one for the fastpacks. To be honest I'm not sure what to make of Yamato's response to two seater VF-1's, but I do know I don't like it. "Not in 1/48 scale." Why the heck not? If they can make a SV-51, surely they can figure out 1/48 two seaters. The news of transformable toys from a mystery 80's anime is interesting. Like many I hope it's Mospedia, but I doubt we're that lucky. All in all great report, I especially glad to hear Yamato is committed to Macross and that there's still much more to come.

Well, the whole thread is impossible, unless someone has a time machine, so I did not concern myself with details like that, but point well taken. Isn't the whole point of the thread what you would change if you could? So, I would re-write the timeline and continuity so fastpacks would make sense. Granted it's not exactly original, but I like the spin it put on things. For me it make the Macross surviving constant attacks more believable if the aliens were spending half thier time fighting each other allowing opportunities for escape etc. But whatever, to each his/her own.

Actually that's a pretty good point, although I assume that's not what the creators had in mind. Ok, I'll give you the hotels, although I wonder how many girls would be willing to go since everyone would know what they're up to. Not exactly discreet. Having said that, if we follow that logic, I wonder if the hotels were really just hotels, if you catch my drift. That's one industry I'm sure would have been established quite quickly. It is the oldest profession in the world after all.

Off the top of my head: - I would have used DYRL designs wherever possible, other than the valk paint schemes. I would keep them tv colors but on DYRL valks. I would also use the DYRL macross for the series. IMO it looks cooler and the idea of sea going ships for arms is a little goofy to me. (series macross fans please don't hurt me) - I would have incorporated the war between the Zentradi and Meltrandi. - Fastpacks would have been standard issue for all valks right from the start. Looking back the idea of jets in space seems kinda silly, but the addition of fastpacks makes them uber-cool. Plus, just picture if everyone had custom painted fastpacks to match their valk. How cool would that have been? - I never really liked how normal life for the civilians was on the macross. They weren't in space that long. Certainly not long enough for an auto industry and the various other product manufacturers. The restaurants I can see as a way to distribute rations, but hotels? Who the hell is going to show up and need a room for the night? I'm sure there other and better examples, but you get my point.

General: * Better QC. I'm sure they are doing their best, but it's just not good enough. * Yamato should know that with the continuing QC issues, resent price hikes, the Shin VF-0A debacle, and seemingly way over priced YF-19 fast pack set, we may be fast approaching a pivotal point where many go from feelings of fandom to resentment. Yamato should know they are treading on thin ice and should seriously think about how their decisions will be viewed by fans. IMO, the honeymoon is over, the days of fans just being happy someone is making Macross toys are gone. We now expect value for our money and not be bent over on every new release. Of course that could be just me. * Way more Tampo printing or in the very least better quality stickers and Include 2 copies of the sticker sheet, so we have replacements when they peel. *More realistic low vis paint schemes (VF-1A low vis I & VF-0A) please continue this with future models ie. YF-19 and whatever else comes out *cough YF-21 *cough. * Better box graphics. Product Specific: * 1/60 YF-21 * 1/48 VF-1J Enigma * Please re-issue the VF-1J supers. (Max, Millia and Hikaru) * Unpainted and unassembled VF-1 with A/J/S heads in a plain box at a lower price for customizers. * 1/48 two seaters * 1/60 TV color Q-Rau * 1/48 Ground crew, standing pilots and support vehicles

Seems to me that the existence of the VE-1 pretty much proves for what ever reason U.N. Spacy saw some benefit to converting the VF-1 for specific roles beyond combat, so the idea of a dedicated trainer seems well within the realm of possibilities. In fact IMHO a trainer makes more sense than a variable early warning and electronic warfare aircraft. It may not makes sense using current day economics and military planning to convert a top of the line fighter to such roles, but obviously U.N. Spacy had a good reason to do so. What that reason might be, is obviously up for debate.

Not to rub it in or anything, but I checked my VF-0S and VF-0A and neither one has so much as a scratch. Of course both have only been transformed once. From now on, when I get around to transforming them again, I'll be especially careful of the shoulders. Thanks for the heads up.

While the VF-0 may be the most anime accurate and the YF-19 my be most impressive considering the level of anime magic in Kawamori's design, I had to vote for the 1/48 VF-1 (low vis II). Call it nostalgia, but I still love the VF-1. And even though the choices of colors for the camo on the low vis II could have been better, it still fulfilled a boyhood dream I had ever since I saw the revell robotech camo vf-1 model. http://www.robotechmuseum.com/models/30.jpg

Looks sweet! I know it's yet another gundam fig let alone a RX-78, but I'm actually looking forward to this one quite a bit. I just hope they put the metal where it should be in the frame and joints.

Off the top of my head (well not really ) here's a list of some of the color variations. There could be more, I'm not sure. Standard 1/48 VF-1 ordnance: AMM-1 triple missile clusters = white UMM-7 Micro Missile Pods = Dark grey w white tips Standard 1/48 fast pack Ordnance: RMS-1 Reaction Missiles = White w Yellow tips Low Vis: AMM-1 triple missile clusters = light grey UMM-7 Micro Missile Pods = Dark grey w light grey tips Low Vis II: AMM-1 triple missile clusters = dark green UMM-7 Micro Missile Pods = light green w dark green tips Stealth: AMM-1 triple missile clusters = Black UMM-7 Micro Missile Pods = Black w grey tips Stealth Fast Packs: RMS-1 Reaction Missiles = Grey w yellow tips Standard 1/48 GBP-1S: GH-32 high maneuverability micro-missiles = White w red tips 1/48 GBP-1S Low Vis: GH-32 high maneuverability micro-missiles = Green w red tips

It's a pretty slow day for me today, so I was looking at my 1/48 collection and it got me wondering if it is realistic for the various ordnance to be custom painted for different color schemes. It doesn't seem very practical to me, I don't even know how something like that even work. I assume the manufacturer would not take custom orders, so that means the ordnance would have to be custom painted, which seems like a pain in the ass for something that's just going to blow up. Having said that, the one exception I could imagine would be the Low Vis II. I can see the benefit of having low vis ordnance on a low vis valk, not so much when the valk is in action, but for storing and re-loading in the field. Of course I'm no military expert, so does anyone know of any real world president for custom painted ordnance in active duty or have a theory as to the benefits of something like this? And before anyone says it, I know the real answer is Yamato is taking liberties with the colors, so let's not even go there.

Crazy Canuck II replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Ok, since my thread was 2 minutes too late and apparently in the wrong section (I was hoping it might have something to do with macross), I'll repost here. Anyone (Graham I'm looking at you) Have details on this. From what I hear it's from Kawamori's Satlight studio with him as mecha designer. Don't know if any of it is true, but it appears to have variable fighters so it wouldn't surprise me. It also wouldn't surprise me, if it is a Kawamori production if Yamato was involved... Anyway, let the speculation begin. -
I guess it was wishful thinking on my part that it might have something to do with Macross. ... Mods, close er down!

I suppose someone might be able to come up with something, but to be honest, it's not a big deal to me and I'm not a fan of any removable parts of any kind, but that's me.

I got my 19 a few days ago and opened it Xmas eve. Over all, very impressive. Looks amazing in all modes and could very well be the best sculpt Yamato has done to date. On the down side... Same gear, gunpod and shoulder flap issues, but that was expected. The arm joints aren't exactly tight, not super loose but could be better. The biggest pet peeve for me is that to achieve a wide leg stance you have to slide the leg out of the hip socket slightly. Seem like a half-assed way to get a good pose. I don't buy that this is a "feature", if it is Yamato forgot to mention it for the 1/48 since it can do the same thing. There really should have been some sort of stop to prevent the legs coming off all the way if this was an intended gimick. All in all though, well worth the money.... Now bring on the 21!!!! P.S. would have been nice if the upper body locked together in batroid. Not a big deal as my days of wooshing my toys around the room are over, but still... It would have made the battroid feel more solid. One other issue I forgot to mention, The little grey thruster nozzel doo-dad inside the right shoulder keeps falling off, but it's nothing a little super glue won't fix, so no biggie.

Got my 19 yesterday .... But since it's a gift from my fiancee I have to wait until Christmas to open it. As for the 19 fastpacks... They do look pretty damn good on the battroid. I just wish Yamato would sell them without the fold booster. Oh well, I guess Yamato just saved me $60.
