  1. You mean like how we freely link and discuss various fansubber releases of the shows themselves right? Not that I want to start an argument but really mang, I support the franchise as much as possible (with all them toys) but I don't think scanlations are crossing the line. It's just what we've had to do within the fandom for as long as its been going on. I'm not going to ask anyone here to scanlate anything but I don't see the harm it can do.
  2. The little cross hatching on the VF-19S cockpit is there to tell the animators there's a screen there. The Battroid egress hatch lineart has little labels that say "screen."
  3. It's time for VF-X2 out of context theatre.
  4. He's talking about during the scene where Hikaru and Misa are wandering around the abandoned Protoculture city, she tells him to go look around while she stays and plays house in a wrecked kitchen. In a very feminine moment she invites him to have a cup of water as if it were coffee or something. It's a very touching moment she then gets upset that they may never be found and might die on the ruined earth. Hikaru makes her feel better. I like how when we see them walking out of the room in the next scene, Misa is zipping up her jumpsuit. She's a goer. Wink-wink, nudge-nudge, say no more.
  5. I am so tired of you guys mentioning anime magic. stop
  6. I honestly do no believe the VF-22S stores gun pods in its ventral plates as at the very least the shape of those weapon bays do not match the shape of the gun pods and the ends have a visible gun barrel which the YF-21 gun pods do not have. I think it's just a case of someone assuming that a mainline Valkyrie just has to have a gun pod when seen in an anime. Like how the VA-3M has no gun pod in VF-X2 yet the VA-3C in Dynamite 7 does have a gun pod. It's just a motif. Kinda like how in that one ad for Digital Mission VF-X the VF-4 is given a gun pod.
  7. The problem with hollywood's Akira is that they are taking a property with a very japanese name and changing it to an American setting and also keeping the character names while casting whitey mcwhitebread as Goku... Er I mean Testuo and Kaneda. It comes across as that weird Hollywood racism where they think people can't handle Asian leads outside of kung Fu movies.
  8. I think I need to clarify what I meant by three weapons in the original Macross. We mostly see gun pods, head lasers, or missiles. It's a bit more infrequent with other kinds of mounted weapons but they show up from time to time. So in a franchise where we've seen a Valkyrie do a spin kick-punch-gun combo and another do a veritable Rider Kick to a Zentrandi and not to mention the the one with a giant bayonet for skewering more Zentradi, a glowing knife is too Gundam?
  9. http://collectiondx.com/toy_review/2011/vf19s_emerald_force_color No poniez this time Youtube's gotta chew the video for a bit. It should be live soon.
  10. That's really only because the two proceeding shows were made to capitalize on the first. Only in board strokes do the robots from Southern Cross and Mospeada resemble the Macross designs. It's like that idea that all them Gundams look alike. The uniforms really have no connection at all. Even Star Trek's change in uniforms seemed mostly natural and were helped by having recurring characters fill them out each time there was a major change. The transition between shows was hella clunky. Like trying to shift from first to forth going backwards (i drive auto)
  11. He does bring out the best in people.
  12. And that is why you fail, my young padawan.
  13. Well I will accept another belated birthday gift of a new camera. Probably would be a better gift than the pony.
  14. I will always love you.
  15. http://collectiondx.com/toy_review/rainbow_dash this is what happens when the postman comes to the house before the FedEx lady The Blazer review will be up within the weekend. But at least this is also a blue flying thing
  16. But Kawamori didn't do any writing for Macross 7... The lack of built in weaponry use is very common in Macross 7. It's part of that Valkyrie feature creep that never occurred to the directors. All Valkyries tend to use the three types of weapons prominently displayed in the original Macross series and rarely any other kind. I don't disagree that the VF-22S was a rushed design but I was wondering if there was ever a hint of something on the cutting room floor.
  17. The crux of the matter is I'd like to be able to enjoy a particular figure for a significant portion of my lifetime. Some older toys I own have lasted quite well against the ravages of time while others have not. I think a new toy should have some planned lifespan or more than a month. If I wanted to burn money for fleeting moments of joy with material possessions, I'd start snorting cocaine.
  18. I suppose the idea of a general storyline involving generations of soldiers standing to those damn xeno bastards might seem more epic on paper, but paper is a funny thing that gets soggy when wet and burns at 451 degrees Fahrenheit. In practice, Robotech's idea of such a storyline falls apart the moment they switch shows. And because of the standalone nature of the original shows, they do absolutely nothing to compliment each other to build a sense of a larger world outside of the superficial. Yes there is a common theme of ordinary soldiers standing up to the system, but that's so common in Japanese science fiction (or any fiction in general) that it's kind of redundant to praise Robotech for simply repacking what was already there. What was Captain JLS's criticism anyway? Is he the guy with the better podcast? I remember one guy talking about how Frontier's opening episodes showed that Macross was still a living, breathing universe. In fact it's rather damning to Robotech when the first episode of Plus and/or 7 did more to expand the Macross setting than 85 episodes of Robotech ever did. Shadow Chronicles couldn't even do that in an hour and a half.
  19. Supposedly Revell Models and other sponsors I think asked for the shows to be tied together or something like that. Not that doing so means concocting the MULTI-GENERATIONAL EPIC (take a shot every time someone says that). I still think Macek was going above and beyond to indulge his auteur side. Either way it sure sucked for them in the end.
  20. So most of us who are on top of these things are aware of how the YF-21 stores its unique dual gun pods. http://macross2.net/...hter-gunpod.gif like that But the finalized VF-22S seems to store them wherever anime girls store their mallets (old joke). http://macross2.net/...hterventral.gif Now the underside has been modified with what looks like a pair of enclosures for the gun pods, but the general shape does not match the shape of the gun pods. In fact they appear to be simple beam weapons that were added to the design. Additionally, the VF-22S is seen launching a reaction missile from the rear of those enclosures as they split at the middle seam to deploy the missile. Pole Star confirmed! As the VF-22S transforms the gun pod comes from the ether as this is a design that only shows up at the very end and didn't warrant that much attention to it. As an amusing goof, the VF-22S from VF-X2 has YF-21 style ventral plates where its gun pods are visibly stored. So because the Pens v. Caps game is kind of dull I'm here to ponder this mystery. Was the VF-22S ever meant to carry gun pods? Was there an unseen new gun pod that would actually fit inside the modified ventral plates? Does anyone really care (I do)?
  21. Ok I re-read that article you posted after quelling the knee-jerk reaction that vexes us all, and I can agree with the general sentiment that Robotech has lost almost all meaning as a product. And the way it's been one long lie to fans has done nothing to preserve the franchise. However I must disagree with the notion that Robotech told a good story because it didn't tell its own story. It just told three stories (more or less) that were already complete. As I've said before, the things they added are so less well received than what was already there. The strange statements that Robotech's continuity (haha) has fared better than Macross and the offhand remark about the quality of Macross's sequels is kind of distracting. Some old anime fans are coming across as bitter these days because some people lied to them about anime back in the day.
  22. Basara is just the kind of guy who'd rather get wet on a rainy day than bring an umbrella, ya dig?
