  1. That's a pretty dumb assumption especially considering the number of GBP-1S toys and models that weren't just the VF-1J. Hell the big deluxe set from Takatoku used the VF-1S. Even some Armored VF-1As show up in episode 27. And if you play the DYRL game, all of Skull Squadron gets decked out in color matched GBP-1S armor for the ARMD attack. I don't think the B-Club guy was doing his homework. That black and red VF-1A is pretty cool looking.
  2. A1 is just some idiot who thinks working out makes him a god or something. Must be all the 'roids.
  3. You don't seem to be very good at using a forum.
  4. Actually comparing Macross to G-Savior is pretty apt considering both have been mostly ignored by their respective companies and only got one piece of mecha related merchandise at their time of release. Its inclusion in Ultimate Ace Frontier does make it a little more like Gundam X, which manages to get a little love in the various Gundam games.
  5. I have a better idea, Graham should ask them to make the Reactive Armor for the VF-0S. I have the VF-25 Armored and I'm getting the VF-1 Armor set. It would be in VF nirvana to have all four Armored Valkyries.
  6. Should have included an extra Gilliam head. RIP raspberry jelly man ;_;
  7. Mostly used for badguys and alien mecha like the stuff from Ideon. They're more like (colonial) Kaiju in that they represent an unstoppable invasion force.
  8. Now if you really want to look at the influence of Starship Troopers on mecha, just try and think about how many robots jump around in some manner and carry some kind of shoulder cannon or bazooka. On the bounce, trooper.
  9. Yes because clearly they're going to make a toy of a mecha from the one Macross OVA that was pretty mediocre and has received about as much attention over the years as Gundam X or G-Saviour (ok maybe that's too harsh). Now the VF-4 is only slightly more likely because of its uniqueness and connection to the original series via Flashback 2012. Now the VF-17 and VF-19 are from a popular Macross series and both have had a fair amount of merchandise between models and toys. Not to mention the fact either of these two would tie directly with the three new Macross 7 toys Yamato is planning to release. Also each one has a plethora of variants and extra bits. The VF-0D falls somewhere between the VF-4 and Macross 7 stuff. While it is from an OVA, it does share enough parts with the standard VF-0 that tooling may be cheaper. Then again with the VF-19 they do have a proven design and know how to make a toy like that so their work would be adapting their existing model to suit the simplified VF-19F/S/Kai/Zolan type. Go back to begging Bandai for a VF100 toy. They'll make anything. Even a Gundam X.
  10. You guys do realize the VF-2SS is pretty much a solid no, right? Right now its more like a 50/50 VF-17, VF-19 with a slight chance of VF-4.
  11. Nice blanket statement there. You know I read Starship Troopers and know that the humanoid weapon is meant to fast, agile, and lethal. I know Japan loves that book because Heinlein's powered suit is literally the basis for all mecha and I can guess the FASA guys also read it because of their oh so liberal use of terms like "flamer" and "jump jet."
  12. You do realize Nexx had maybe 10 lines of a dialog during the entire OVA right? There's almost nothing he does that couldn't have been done by a nondescript background character. I guess he serves as a bridge to the action scenes but even him being in those Valkyries doesn't save them from feeling totally disjointed from the main characters. Oh and who said they found the use of railguns refreshing? All that means is the laser beams are now blue instead of pink.
  13. Because Mechwarrior fans became unhappy whores just like the No Mutants Allowed guys for Fallout. They wouldn't allow the Mechwarrior games to change at all so eventually only hardcore fans played them consistently leaving the casual gamer really put off.
  14. One of the funny things about the rule is that some of the heads can't been seen from behind and yet a headshot is always possible from the rear. Although one thing that was never really translated to the PC games is the space a Battlemech occupies is a 30 meter hex which is meant to give it room to maneuver and dodge. So they're not as "stiff" in their actions like most of the PC games tend to show them.
  15. Well I didn't mean it as an insult. Just that you're more about the passion than the specifics.
  16. Keith is not really the man for depth, more like a spokesman. For myself, all I can do is look back on Macross 7 and recount the things I saw. I saw a young man, who was the biggest walking stiff learn to embrace the irrationality of love and fun. I saw a young girl struggling against her parents, her friends, and her own budding desires. I saw an adult woman chase after the enigmatic artist only to realize he'll never be tied down. I saw two friends reconnect through a broken past. I saw aliens whom were basically gods who were plotting to feed on human emotions only to succumb to them. I saw an eccentric mother trying to balance her own ego as she tried to control her last daughter. And that's what I remember right now. We all watched as two strangers learned to fall in love again. Through them we had the joy of rediscovering Macross. 7 will be forever ours, faithfully. bomba!
  17. If you want to play a computerized version of the Battletech tabletop game try Megamek. I think the boardgame has aged a little better than the Mechwarrior PC games.
  18. No I'm saying THE FANS (man I am all capping like a bitch today) tend to remember the big explosions win the day as its very safe and conventional way of doing things. This is very true of fans on this site. Also a lot of people complain about Kawamori but they don't seem to acknowledge that the show as directed by Tetsuro Amino so maybe you should try comparing it other things he's done. Unfortunately for english speakers this is a narrow list which consists of the Starship Troopers OVA (which is awful) and Iron Leaguer (which has only a few episodes subbed). Kawamori's biggest involvement seemed to be taking pictures for the OP and ED sequences (especially in Dynamite 7) and creating the premise. Stuff like Zero and Frontier are more clearly Kawamori's productions since he was the director of Zero and the supervising director of Frontier. Macross 7 predates the founding of Satelight by at least a year. So that's where that sad Sharon portrait comes from. bombah!
  19. Look at it this way, horses and donkeys can be bred to make mules which CAN'T reproduce. So basically their parents would be regular Zentradi, Zolan, or human which can reproduce to make two sterile children. I mean hey, Michael is such a mega playboy so maybe he likes being able to sleep around as much as possible (for a strangely mature 17 year old boy). You gotta think in layers.
  20. Michael could just be sterile. There are a lot of animals we mate like lions and tigers to make Ligers.
  21. Who said it was a parody? I'm just saying if you want a straight up military robot show, there's plenty of them out there and Macross 7 might not fit your definition of being one.
  22. That depends. By the time Macross 7 came out there was at least 15 different shows with that premise. Its not like Japan had a serious drought of military robot shows. And there were still plenty of mooks in the show to blow up. The beauty of stock footage.
  23. That's really no different than the standard sci-fi fairy dust that makes the plot work. Reverse engineered is highly overused and rarely used correctly. The way Sci-fi uses it is like saying you could give Leonardo DaVinci a jet engine and he could replicate it. Another point is that it seems like a lot of people here like the Macross shows where the badguy gets blown up. Boldolza, Sharon Apple, Ingues, and Grace all get the smashy-smashy in one way or another. As in they die. In 7 and Zero the badguy was coaxed into stopping. It's not as climactic to some.
  24. No that's standard practice. Something like Gundam 08th MS Team had new designs to go along with the new characters. It gets new merchandise out there that's distinct from the existing product while settling new fans into an existing story filled with callbacks.
  25. I think the big distinction Ginrai is missing from the complaints is that is that even with Minmay songs they still had to BLOW UP Boldolza with weapons. So some people have the interpretation that is was very much a military victory won by soldiers using relatively conventional means (i.e. bombs) In Macross 7 the point is what happens when the bombs don't work. I feel Frontier was a little weaker for trying to be more traditional anime sci-fi where the bombs still work for the most part and the singing is really just a pump you up moment.
