The ignorance of any other anime that isn't Macross is kind of staggering.
-
I think you have a very narrow view of what an old-school anime is actually like.
-
If you are going to claim that Macross 7 was not as successful as the original while also noting it was popular among "highly emotional effeminate males" then you are implying that type of person being the demographic is why it wasn't as successful because otherwise there is no reason to mention that in the same statement. You are using "effeminate" in a derogatory way. Your opinion seems to be that "effeminacy" and "emotionality" are problems for the fandom and for Macross. Your analogy does not hold up because you are not using your friend's heritage to imply anything. You are being blind to your own bigotry. So Stop it.

No one uses that string of words (which are also laced with borderline homophobia) unless they are trying imply that such a person is "the other" and is somehow a lesser to the masculine men or that masculinity is the "normal." It's a loaded phrase and you're smart enough to know that because you often say such things like, "Basara is clearly a homosexual." You're not being innocent and accepting, you're acting like a whistle blower trying to out someone in a shameful way. Trying to do that is a fiction you are constructing that is implying something is not normal or acceptable. So stop it.

I think your borderline misogyny and bigotry needs to go.

if only Kircheis were here... in Macross

If you want to voice your suggestions on his review, then I would ask you to please post it on CollectionDX directly. In a couple of weeks I plan to cover the VF-19F toy myself.

If you want to see the best way to arrange the missiles, the VF-19 Master File book has a diagram showing potential loadouts.

One of our guys put up his review of the new YF-19. http://collectiondx.com/toy_review/2014/yf19_fast_packs He's got a lot of 'em!

The real heroes wear pink like Megumi Nakajima's character in Happiness Charge Precure. And she has eye beams!

We need to stop misrepresenting what happened in the series. We are not Robotech fans here.

Ok just to let you know you're not going to win this argument because everything you just said is wrong. First, Basara is a civilian pilot but not an amateur. He was trained by Ray who was an elite Pink Pecker. He also displays skills with other space bound craft like one of Rex's gang's space bikers and the space vespa stored inside the transport van. Second, the Fire Valkyire gets hit a lots of times and even gets visibly damaged hence why in some episodes it had to be serviced. It's a very resilient machine because it's the same type as Isamu's which can get blasted through buildings DBZ style. I was just watching episode 8 and it ends with the Fire Valkyrie being pretty scorched from hits. In episode 5 it gets kicked so hard in the chest Basara suffers a laceration on his arm from getting bounced around by the impact. If you want to play the tech game, just say its energy converting armor is more optimized for defense since Basara regular puts himself in the path of enemy fire when it's aimed at civilians. And honestly Gamlin is the one who keeps putting himself in a position where Basara is in the way. He is very undisciplined in early episodes.

I would liken trying to ignore Macross 7's impact on the series as a whole as being like trying to ignore what Zeta Gundam did for Gundam. A lot of people do not like Zeta these days but to pay it no mind or wish it was never made is trying to ignore the giant singing red robot in the room.

Well if you don't like the next Macross series (because it's too much like Macross 7 or whatever) then just don't pirate it. This board does not reflect the intended audience and the majority of its members aren't even in the market where a Macross show can be broadcast. And even with all this hemming a hawing over Macross 7, it is still undeniably influential on what Kawamori has done in the 20 years since it came out. And right now with 90's kids becoming adults it is the closet and most recognizable nostalgic property for Japanese fans.

Yeah but it's more akin to people bugging Alan Moore with what happened to the cast after the events of the Watchmen comic. There is some bits of unfinished business but the story is complete and you'd have to be a money grubbing executive to want to continue it- http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/02/01/watchmen-2-is-happening ohh... (that article is old lol)

The recent Speaker Podcast discussed at length why it probably won't be a reboot. They cited that it took years for Yamato 2199 to get off the ground and these days Frontier is the center of Macross, not the original. And Gundam the Origin's anime is coming after the manga has been finished for a few years, whereas Macross the First has yet to conclude.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqYdp6rOBaI well this show came out and was really popular with the female demographic so expect to see more manservice

It's better than ten years of "but you guys like Macross 7? you guys are dumb"

Hey if people are willing to spend over a 100 dollars on 3rd party Transformers with much lower plastic quality and no diecast, I don't think the price of Destroids is the main problem. I think it's lack of demand.
-
looks p. cool in the game and like most of the Valkyrie it uses a lot of spin kicks and straight punches in melee
-
They should re-release the Destroids. People always want those.
-
2014 is Macross 7's 20th anniversary. Ergo, Fire Valkyrie re-issue.
