Animated cartoon "Macross 30" TV production hope!
VF5SS replied to Mari-ja's topic in Movies and TV Series
Man that reminds of this one time at Anime Boston where two guys were trying to do a "epic moments of mecha" panel and most of their clips were bad youtube rips. They tried hyping up everything but it all felt really lame. Then they showed the HOLY LONELY LIGHT moment from Macross 7 which was of course a bad youtube rip that didn't even use the remastered footage. I'm thinking, well I appreciate you having Macross 7 but this whole sequence makes no sense to anyone who doesn't know the context and your shitty segue isn't helping. Like why not pick something people can understand like when Basara meets Emilia. -

Shoji Kawamori "created" Macross: load of bull?

The Aquarion TV series was a success. It's basically part of the modern mecha pantheon. I'm not sure about the OVAs. -

I was being facetious. I liked Aquarion and Macross Zero. Not everything he does is a success like those Aquarion OVAs but whatever. Tomino can survive and few duds like Brain Powered and Garzey's Wing. Even Ishiguro had his dud with Tytania and parts of Orguss (although that may have been the other director). When I see pictures of Kawamori in stuff like Macross Age or old issues of magazines where he's playing with his Valkyrie toys (bastard got a new 1/60 VF-1D before it was released) and taking pictures of planes at airshows I still see the same goofy aviation enthusiast. Give him the guy some credit. Every Macross production with his involvement has been a success. -

you are not minmei

Oh is that supposed to Slickly-san. Whatever this show is awesome. He juggled the enemy with missiles and then launched into space on a dirt bike.

Anime people are pretty durable. Plus we've seen similar accidents in Macross and DYRL. No the transformation diagram shows them folding one way. We never saw them unfold and refold over on the other side so I just chalk it up to a gaffe. Physically, the YF-21's backpack has to unhinge a bit to allow the wing clearance.

Why not? He's strapped into a licensed nuclear powered super tough death machine that skidded to a stop. I'm not saying the alternative scene where he's someone how injured when his robot is non-fatally wounded is any better. Especially considering how relatively deep the YF-19 cockpit is buried in Battroid mode. I've never really understood the common trope of people being injured inside their armored robots. It works alright in WW2 movies where the planes are made of aluminum and the flak is nasty but no so much in teh future. Also did you notice when the VF-11 is carrying the YF-21, the YF-21's wings fold out completely opposite of how they're supposed to? Oops.

I they're going to make the VF-11D I think that second VF-11B may be a typo. I mean, the VF-11D shares the same gunpod as the VF-11C so I'd figure Hasegawa would want to maximize the shared parts on two kits.

PP03 Lightning might as well rip off Hasbro whole cloth at this point I guess that's more "anime color" than anything

You know I've seen Macross Zero a few times and I've never noticed any actual tree-hugging. Maybe when Shin and Sara made their daring escape on a flying totem they had to hug it tightly with their legs but whatevs. It's not like anything in Zero affected future Macross productions outside of some cameos and crossovers in the new games. We're not going to see VF-0s digitally inserted into SDF Macross. Speaking of which, why doesn't George Lucas replace the AT-ATs with something that actually makes sense. Or adding in Turbo Tanks for some continuity. why not
-
Considering the only other options are Macross II and two different versions of SDF Macross that's not saying much.

Oh I see. The thread I posted in got locked but this one stays open. I'm on to your little game :v Anyways, I think one way to alleviate the VF-4's main issue of shoulder rotation would be to make the entire engine nacelle the shoulder joint. kind of like on the Yellow Submarine kit.

It's also possible, however unlikely, that my tuna sandwich is going to suddenly become a ham sandwich. Because it's not like the KISSDUM robot looks like the ED-209, or Glaug (any flavor), or even anything Kawamori has ever drawn before in his nearly 30 years as a designer.

Well that and Lana's very obvious Samurai armor. Also that police robot Jeanne knocks over in the first episode.

I thought Southern Cross was originally envisioned as a Sci-fi story in a Sengoku Japan era like setting. The Spartas were kind of meant to be like space chariots.
-
This was asked in an old thread and I believe the answer was Macross II was always advertised at its given episode count. I forget doesn't the movie and the whole OVA have roughly the same running time?

I must admit the only copy of the original Trilogy that I own is a VHS Special Edition set I got for Christmas. For me it is the principle of the thing. Well he would if the company was publicly traded. He probably doesn't allow that so some rich, zealous fan doesn't buy a majority share :v But still when did we get this "cult of the creator" thing?
