No Beagle Blow Superior... that blows superior...
VF5SS replied to EXO's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah CM's covered everything we could have hoped for. All Ride Armors and all Legioss and Treads save for the rarely seen black Tread. -
Well they can just cover it up with off screen BS. It's not like Robotech has a shortage of that.
-
I think that bit was from the Love & War comics. Wait how could the Zentradi kill the Mars Base crew? Wasn't the whole base dead long before that?
-
Yeah totally. Can't be any worse than those modern Robotech comics where they suggested that Milia actually trained in knife fighting like she planned to do that to kill Max.
-
Well maybe if you compared say the Frontier or Plus manga it'd be slightly more fair. Just slightly.
-
So uh Rick is now a Hobbit/Troll doll guy. Clearly superior.

Yeah not to belittle people's fanart from over 25 years ago but I'm not seeing anything outstanding or even near Tenjin's level. Most of the good art is just the Mikimoto pictures and existing artwork from the source material. So anyone want to explain why the first picture is clearly DYRL fanart? Anyone? Bueller?

I always think of him as Mr. Votoms since it was basically his force of will that made CPM license the series for America. He is the alpha and omega of western Votoms fans.
-
Tim Eldred did some comics right? I seem to recall he was the only one who could really draw the robots. But all the characters were done in a more realistic and western style so they were unrecognizable. But yeah any of the modern promo stuff never seems to mix eras that often and almost always looks like amateur fanart.
-
They just be jelly because we get stuff like this and they never do. And when they sorta do all it reminds them of is how nothing in Robotech looks right together. Too bad, so sad. Well some of their issues were the inclusion of modern anime elements I think. We could argue about some of these elements but people lose their collective shizz whenever moe is mentioned or hinted at. I can't really point at any particular homage that seemed out of place. Maybe Legend of Zero was kind of iffy but it made sense from a production stand point. They were already using materials from Zero, the Zero Blu Ray discs were on sale so there was some cross promotion, and overall the episode presented it in a fun way. My few minor complaints is that maybe Ozma could have been seen singing along with some of the Fire Bomber he listens to. Then again, this is Macross where if one character even hums the tune of an older song Victor has to cut a new single. I think one of the issues with the newer Macross sequels is that to some older fans, it can make Macross as a whole feel less special. It's something that happens to any franchise really. Without a doubt Gundam went through the same thing many years ago, but that was before internet whining was widely available. Gotta love how in the many years Macross has been making new sequels, they've covered decades of progress in the Macross universe. In the 25 years it took Shadow Chronicles to be made all they covered was like a day's worth of events with the slim hope of maybe more stories.

Well for practical reasons, I think Basara's music is harder to obtain for TV shows. Even Macross 7 itself didn't get to use all of it. As for Hikaru? Not gonna touch it because this discussion has been done to death. If I recall, Kawamori had told the staff to reign in the overt references to older shows as to not confuse new viewers. Most of the homages in characters, scenes, and dialog were done in a way so one could enjoy them without knowing the previous context. They were just cool scenes for cool people. Everything that needed to be explained got those handy opening montages in each episode. And really Frontier just did what 7 already did. Take basic elements and expand upon them in the sequel. From 7 to Frontier we have the same kind of Macross ship (now with tens of Akusho units all glued together) with the same kind of Valkyries and support ships so we have our visual continuity. It allows people to look at Frontier and go "yeah that's a Macross show" while letting it tell its own story without obvious nostalgia grabs. Of course some people think Frontier still had too many homages. If you talk to those Colony Drop guys they're all like "fartING MOECROSS FRONTIER GROVELING AT THE FEET OF FANS RARGH" but ya know, some of them also like Gundam Unicorn :v

No Beagle Blow Superior... that blows superior...
VF5SS replied to EXO's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Ok I know this might shock you but here's a protip. Nobody cares about Mospeada. In fact, people in Japan seemed to like Dorvack a lot more since it started airing three days later and lasted 11 episodes longer. Unless you can convince a ton of people to care about buying every single high priced merchandise (at full retail) from just another robot show you are boned. Why are you assuming that giving fans something never seen before will make them instantly buy it? -
Yeah they said they're going to redo all the special effects shots using the original 35mm print of the models in flight because originally all the effects were done on VHS tape.

I guess we have a loose definition of "iconic" but whatever. The product description called Mospeada an anime masterpiece too. The many times being that one piece of artwork right. The Tread Armor Diver is kind of lame so I don't think people would want a mode of it straight out. Maybe a combo idea like the Wave VF-1 where you take a fighter and Battroid kit to make a Gerwalk. Also it's a good way to convince your bosses to invest in the next item when you start with the less popular figure. Did we hit peak Tomahawk plus we never got a 1/48 version Well I guess if you don't buy one they won't make more :/ -
