  1. Well with regards to Macross, it sure worked twice before Showing compassion to one's enemies isn't entirely out of left field in fiction, let a lone in Macross. Max comes across an enemy pilot who killed many of his comrades (and tries to shank him) and within the span of maybe five minutes he marries her. The result of Basara's actions towards Sivil were in part responsible for saving the entire Macross 7 fleet on at least one occasion.
  2. Oh I was more referring to how in episode 49 of the show he's got his regular big hair as a child and in the Encore episode he's got more normal hair and doesn't wear his trademark tank top. Just silly little things.
  3. It's kind of funny that even Basara's backstory shows him being exactly the same as he is during the series. Just sometimes he's a little kid with the his adult hair and sometimes he's a little kid with regular hair :x
  4. dude i don't even known anymore sho 'nuff I just wish we were passed all the hate threads. Those were dark times. The time of the Agentonepire.
  5. I'm not sure if I'd call it a stroke of genius as there have been other protagonists with a heavy stroke of pacifism before Basara, like say Eiji from Layzner for example. Actually most of the things Basara does are fairly logical extensions of how to show what he's doing, to the audience. His Valkyrie has physical speakers and a light show system to communicate that he's a musician. The Fire Valkyrie has a guitar shaped control stick so he wouldn't look so strange when sitting inside while singing music. The speaker pods deal with the whole "no sound in space" factoid by having a more visceral means of delivering music. It allows for the sponsors to keep the appearance of a robot with a gun while staying inline with the theme of the series. Some of the other aspects to Spiritia and Sound Energy are keeping in line with many popular sci-fi series in Japan. No worse than tiny bug psychic crystals that live in your stomach :3
  6. Or maybe it would look like the VF-22 or VA-3 which don't have thruster feet. Probably wouldn't look as balanced as a Gerwalk. Most Valkyries have at least three engines when you think about it. Two in the feet and one on the back.
  7. So while I have some of your dudes' attention and I think some of you are audiophiles, can anyone recommended a good microphone? I think anything would be better than the karaoke mic I have that I bought using a twenty dollar bill I found on the floor of a department store one time :>
  8. I find the above post to be highly Freudian. Sometimes a big red jet is just a big red jet. Singing the song that will rock the galaxy. And causing orgasms in female aliens :3
  9. Throwing around the no true Scotsman fallacy doesn't make your opinion valid.
  10. Premises are a funny thing. Mospeada had a pretty grim premise but it's all Flash Dancing and loli birthday parties in the show. The premise of Macross isn't really about the annihilation of humanity (that comes later) but a little ship trying to outlast a bunch of aliens trying to capture it as they unravel the mystery of why culture seems to affect the aliens. Which is pretty much the same as Macross 7. In fact it's more grim in 7 because there is literally nothing they can do to stop their enemies through force.
  11. Well he is the George Lucas of anime. Or is that Kawamori. Or Ryosuke Takahashi?
  12. Yeah cause you're not doing that either.
  13. Well without the first movie, they wouldn't have the props to exploit for the next two :3 and also for G-Savior and some other low budget sci-fi
  14. Considering how many shows prior to it did the same thing, I'm guessing no.
  15. Yeah mang. Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation and Starship Troopers 3: Marauder. Only the first was directed by Paul Germanname but the writer for the first directed the third so there's still taint.
  16. 80's gratuitous violence doesn't make you gritty. That's just how they did things for a period of time. Old Macross was pretty lighthearted. If you're going to cherry pick the more extreme parts then we're not getting anywhere. Gundam opens with all of Australia being blown up and you don't see people calling it gritty. No they reserve that for bleedin' 08th MS Team which has more love drama than most Gundam.
  17. There's also the ARMD Attack stage in the DYRL video game for Saturn/Playstation. Everyone gets suited up in Armor Packs. http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/art/mcr254l.jpg And this scene from the show.
  18. The only important part about the video is where I attempt to combine the two toys. There's some awkward lulz. Be glad I'm not that Eva Unit 4A guy. He can't review a sentai toy without making a documentary.
  19. pfffffffffffffft i can do bettah just read my cm's legioss and tread review to see how awesome i am even though the CDX show missed the point when they talked about it :c
  20. whatevs mang opinions be opinions all i know is when I introduced my friends to Macross, they all figured out Macross 7 was the macrossiest of them all until Frontier came around even then, both are about neck and neck in terms of macrossness
